| So I have changed the speakers in my doors to Kappas (2 Ohm's) the sound is better but still not enough power, If I look for an Amp, what power rating will be sufficient? I guess what I am really asking is: Does anyone really know what the 'Real World" RMS measurements are for the factory Bose Amp? |

Since you have new speakers, match the new amp to the power rating of the speakers.
It's hard to go "too big" with an amp as you can always turn it down. It's easy to go "too small" and end up driving the amp harder and you get a lot more distortion.
It doesn't matter what kind of power the Bose amp puts out if you're getting rid of it. |

I'd like to know how easy it is to swap the Bose amp?
Can we just remove the Bose and place another 4 channel amp in it's place? Would it wire right in? |

That's a good question. I don't know offhand and I don't have a MO anymore to investigate for you. When I was considering an audio upgrade for my MO I was going to use 2 amps and an aftermarket sub enclosure.
I think I've seen questions like this answered in the past, there may have even been some wiring diagrams posted. I was hoping someone else might jump in who has this information.
I *think*, and I could be wrong, that the Bose amp takes the typical 4 channels in, but actually outputs 6 channels (2 for the sub). I don't know internally how it accomplishes this, perhaps by load-sharing with the rear speaker channels.
What many have done is add a small amplifier to drive the sub -- this takes some load off the Bose amp and lets it drive the door speakers with more power, which results in louder and cleaner sound.
That might be something to try. |

You could remove the Bose amp if you wanted. The problem I encountered was the limited amount of space where the amp is located.
There are two plugs that plug into the amp. One plug has the power and ground lines with also the L+- and R+- Sub output. The other plug has all the L+- and R+- speaker for front and rear input and output plus an amp turn on signal line.
So to answer your question; "would it wire right in"? -- Yes and No. You can't just unplug the two plugs and then plug them into the new amp. You will have to splice the wires into your new amp.
What I ended up doing was just leaving the Bose amp in its place and located my new amps where I wanted to have them. That way; I can access the new amp for ease of tuning and installation of the input wires and output speaker wires.
I just "unpluged" the two plugs and tapped into them for the Input signals; and amp turn on. I ran a 4 ga.(I installed 2X 400 watts 4chl amps) power line to the battery and 8 ga. ground wires for each amp. Then I ran new 16 ga. speaker wires to my Front and Rear speakers with 12 ga. wire for the sub.
If you want to get a new amp; go ahead and get what you think you need for your system. You can then decide to leave the Bose amp or take it out if you can work with that space. The only reason I left mine in was that I'll be putting back the stock system when I decide to sell the car(I didn't just say that; did I?:13: ) |

| Here's the wiring diagram for the two plugs. Sorry about not being too neat.... |

Thanks for the input.
I've got another set of Kappa 62.9s on order - will get them next weekend. i will install those and see how it sounds. I've thought of disconnecting the stock bose tweeters and just running the 4 Kappa's - might be enough highs and i have the basslink for the bottom end which it handles well.
If it's not clean enough i may opt for another amp - what brand amps are you guys running for your highs/mids?
Do you guys see any benefit to upgrading the stock speaker wire with the bose amp?
