Question on replacing fuel door actuator - Click HERE for Original Thread
gfriedell
I have an 03 MO. The fuel door will lock, but not unlock.
I purchased a new actuator unit and installed it. It behaves the same way. It will lock but does not unlock when the remote is pressed twice to unlock.

I'm baffled and would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Check the alignment of the metal tab that engages the actuator. Maybe it is bent too much?

gfriedell-

Welcome to the forum!

The problem may not be with the actuator. I suggest putting a voltmeter on the wires and seeing if you detect any voltage when you lock/unlock the car. If no power is present then the problem may be with the relay located under the driver-side dash.

thanks! Is the relay easily accessed? That must be the issue because both the old and new actuators function the same. The locking rod extends when the car is locked, but doesn't retract when the car is unlocked. I tested it with the actuator not installed in the gas door, just loose and plugged into the wiring harness.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary-

The relay appears to be behind the kick panel adjacent to the parking brake.

Another member, Scott C, posted a copy of a parts diagram that may be helpful. I have attached a link to the bottom of this post. I hope it helps.

As a side note, according to Enforcer only the 03 & 04 MOs use the relay. On the 05 and 06 (and later?) MOs the actuator is controlled directly by the BCM.

It finally happened to my 03 MO for the past 2 weeks. Someone from a Nissan dealer suggested to use WD-40 to spray(large amount) inside the Actuator itself from the "white pin area". It worked! This maybe the temporary solution without replacing the Actuator. I will keep checking and see how long it will last.

You can also bend the catch-tab on the fuel door too if you don't mind doing so.

$25 part and 10 minutes to install it :)

Really more details please.

njjoe gave me the suggestion see the post above.

My actuator would fire to lock but not retract to unlock. I installed a new actuator and it reformed the same. So it had to be something other than the actuator. Fortunately the dealer I bought the actuator from was kind enough to return the actuator.
