I just joined the MO club, having purchased a 2003 with 93.5k miles.
It had little service history and I was thinking of taking it in to Nissan for their 100 point check.
The problem is that having surfed this forum there are too many horror stories of dealers in this area.
Is it worth it? Or am I just opening myself up for a long list of unnecessary work. I know obviously that I dont have to get the work done.
Could then take the list to a reputable mechanic??
All comments appreciated.
Thanks

The "100 point check" is mainly an advertising device to make it seem like they do a lot of inspections. Over half of those are probably visual inspections you can do yourself in 15 minutes. You can take the vehicle to any good independent shop and they will know what to inspect based on your mileage (they have subscriptions to Mitchells or Alldata so they have the complete maintenance guides for your car).
Your owners manual also shows what inspections are required. At the 60,000 mark, the maintenance guide shows all the inspections your car would ever need, save the spark plugs. |

Nissan's 100-point check? I bet they check off fifty of the items before they even leave their cube to view your car. :4:
Don't bother with the dealer. With any luck you will never have to set foot in the dealership until it's time to buy a new car. Take your MO to a reputable service station and let them give it a once-over.

100 point check.... oh yea that includes, oil level, collect payment, check washer fluid, collect payment, check tire presure, collect payment...
Before you know it the 100 point check is really a 50 point check. |

Thanks guys, just confirming what I had thought, but on the off chance it may have been worth it as it is free.
Am still looking for a reputable mechanic in the Queen, NYC area.
If you know anyone, please let me know. |
