Firestone Destination LE - Click HERE for Original Thread

It looks like the MO driver has another tire to choose from - the Firestone Destination LE.

Firestone's Destination LE is an all-season tire with a 60,000 mile treadlife warranty and a 5-year workmanship warranty. It has a "T" speed rating (118 mph) and a UTQG of 480AB. They are priced between the Goodyear Eagles (OEM) and the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred.

It wasn't that long ago that our choices were limited to the OEM Goodyear and maybe one or two other tires in the 235/65-18 size. Now there are no less than 11 year-round and 2 winter-only tires in the MO's 18" size. Things are definitely looking up.

Hey folks...new here, as my wife just bought a 2005 Murano SL AWD (with only 22,000 miles on it)....absolutely LOVE the vehicle so far, but the OEM Goodyear tires are about stripped, and with a New England winter on the horizon, it's time to throw some new shoes on this bad boy...so my question is, do you think this tire, which has a bit more "teeth" than the OEM's would compromise the sporty driving of the Murano? I'm also looking at the Cooper CS4 Touring (more of a passenger tire) and the Cooper Discoverer CTS (much like the Destination LE) as options...I read on tirerack that someone with an X5 put the Destination LE's on it, and it completely killed the sporty aspect of the vehicle, and this is something I fear...any feedback would be great, thanks!

WOW!!!

Only 22K miles out of your stock Eagles?!?!? I've been running my stock eagles for over 30K miles and still have some siginificant meat on them. Are you sure your alignment is good?

My first MO (yes this is my second one) I traded in at over 50K miles and the treads still looked good for another 10K.

The MO is more of a large car than a rugged SUV. If you find a tire with the same tred or similar to the stock Eagles you should be good to go. I was looking at the Fortera or going back to the stock Eagles myself if I kept my original stock rims.

But...I'm looking to purchase some chrome 20" Motegi US-7's in the near future. I'll wrap those rims in Falken 255/50R20's.

Alignment is fine, I had a similar problem with Bridgestone Potenza RE92's on my Subaru Legacy...

We could use something a bit more aggressive than the OEM Eagles because of the New England winters we go through.

If the MO is your primary car and you spend a good portion of the winter driving on snow/ice-covered roads you may want to consider dedicated snow tires. They will out-perform any "all season" tires on ice or snow.

I'm very well aware of this...I'm looking for a very competent all-season tire, which the OEM Goodyears are not; but I'm also trying to consider how an all-season with more teeth will affect the sporty driving of the Murano.

I kind of like of the GY Tripletread from what I can see. I don't know how they would perform but would be worth looking into....

What do you think the tread life is for a winter tire like the Blizzak DM-Z3?

Gonzo
I got about 52K on my Goodyears... I replaced them with Kumho tires... they have a tread live of 680 with an AB rating. I have not used them in the snow but they are much quieter than the GY's and about the same in the rain.

I expect to get at least 75K out of these considering the treadwear rating and the GY's life.

No matter what tire you get be sure to check the date code on the tires. Do a search and you should find out how to check that your tires are "fresh".

I have had a set of GDY assurance triple tread on my Jetta for the last 3 years and they deliver as advertise. Especially now with the weather at -30C and more than 30 cms on the roads since last Friday. This spring I plan on re-shoeing my Mo with the same triple tread (Fotera)

Stoker, how many miles did you get out of 'em?
