hi, i bought a 05 used Murono from a dealer 2 weeks ago, the car was great. and i was told the car is still under warranty (51000 mi), which they did not tell me it was only power tran warranty left. anyway, 2 days ago, i got problem, SES light comes on, and AWD light come on while driving on a very smooth city street, and i lost power, the car acce. really really slow, turn off wait 5 minutes started again, SES still on, AWD is off, and power is back, i got a code U1000 this morning. and i found out my AC blow hot air while i set it to 62 F or above. Call the dealer where i bought the car, they refused to fix it. because only covers engine and transmition.
Well, just wondering is there anything I can do about this, because i think i've been cheated. thansk a lot

Welcome to the forum.

Caveat emptor - Buyer beware. You can not blame the used-car dealer for not answering a question you never asked. The bumper-to-bumper warranty is (was) for 36 months and 36,000 miles. The powertrain warranty is for 5 years and 60,000 miles.

The U1000 error code refers to the CAN (Controller Area Network) communication link. The Service Manual lists the cause to be the harness or connectors.

Since you purchased the car only two weeks ago you could ask the dealer for goodwill consideration, but he has no obligation to grant such a request. Maybe you can work out a deal where you pay only half. It's worth a shot.

If the dealer flatly refuses to offer any assistance then I would say adios to the dealership and find a reputable mechanic to work on your MO.

Good luck.

Ditto, Evo (on the welcome AND buyer beware thing).

Good luck with your Mo. I'm going on 55K miles with nary a problem, and am getting ready to drive from NE to NC next week. But I bought new, so I know everything the car has been through.

The sad reality is that any car on the market with only 50K miles (especially a Jap made car) is there for a reason.

Not necessarily true. It could have simply been an off-lease vehicle.

Don't let this get you too discouraged. The MO is a great vehicle, and you just had an unfortunate experience with a problem right off the bat. It COULD be that the dealer was dishonest, or it could just simply be bad luck.

I would try to make the dealer take care of it. If there are other customers within earshot when you're talking to them, it could help your case. You don't have to be an A-hole about it or anything (yet) just state that you bought the car only 2 weeks ago, and it already has a problem. If they're not willing to take a look for free (and hopefully fix it out of goodwill) then you MIGHT want to bring their honesty into question and threaten a complaint to Nissan Corporate against the dealership.

IF you can't get them to fix it for free (or significantly discounted) then don't let them do the repairs. Go find a reputable independent shop in your area and give them your business. Should be cheaper than the dealer, and if you read up on this forum a bit you'll see a very consistent hatred of how the Nissan service department treat their customers.

Again, it really sucks that you had a problem right off the bat, but hopefully it won't spoil your excitement of having an otherwise excellent vehicle.

Keep us posted on what happens.

What about a lemon law.... would that be applicable? Maybe not since it was OK for two weeks.

ONE problem, even right after purchase, isn't adequate for the lemon law. However, if more problems continue to pop up, then there might be a case.

I believe the lemon law is only applicable during the warranty period. It covers defects that significantly impairs the use, but only after a reasonable number of repair attempts during the lemon law rights period (in other words, under warranty). But Lemon Laws are state laws, so they vary by state. In any case, this is a long, documented process, not a quick solution.

I agree with Joe, I'd go visit the Service Dept. Manager with a smile and see where you get. If they're willing to let you walk forever over a faulty harness, it's probably best for you in the longrun anyway. Seems the concensus around here is that Nissan service is awful. The advice is to only go to dealer for warranty work and find yourself a private service shop for everything else!
