Howdy there again,
After a 3rd change of transaxle seals, my Murano now has a high pitched creak coming from the left axle/steering assembly. I've greased and inspected everything. The creak will only happen when pulling forward as the front end lifts with the torque. The creak actually sounds metallic and not a porous material sound like bushings or shocks. The pitch leads me to believe that it may be a bearing in the CVT joint or rotor assembly. I'm confused to be honest, it only does it when torque is applied when going forward and it will not do it when I manually work the strut (pushing up and down).
Has anyone else experienced this? I've never experienced a sound like this... |

| Its more likely it is a loose heat shield, but the only way to find out would be pinpoint the source of the noise with a mechanics scope, not an easy thing to do if the noise only comes when the vehicle is in motion. |

It's only happening when going forward but I'll check it again...
I'm gonna try and get it on video tonight. |

See if you can rock your Mo when in park and duplicate it.
I did and others have. It had progressed from a distinct loud click to a creak. The dealer fixed that one by tightening the rack and all motor mounts.
and.... I too had a creeeeeeak in my 04 that never went away after dealer fixes. It too appeared on mid power accelleration. If I goosed it (pressed the pedal a little more), it went away. I traded it in on my 07 with that sound still there. For a while it had a metallic buzz accompanying it but the dealer fixed that part (exhaust shield)... never the creeeeeak though. |

| I've checked it by manually rocking back and forth, up and down...nothing. It seems like it happens when the strut is moved because of the forward motion torque. I'll post a video later... |

UPDATE:
Went through whole front end with a scope and could not duplicate the sound. A couple of weeks go by and now it's gone!!! Re-checked everything again and I can't see anything out of the ordinary...
So when something goes kapow, I'll update again... |

Reminds me of an issue I had with my 02 Nissan Frontier SE. I did some work under the hood one night and made sure all of my tools were put away before shutting the hood. I noticed over the next few days the truck generated a metallic rattling sound somewhere in the front of the engine compartment. It was unrelated to the work I did earlier.
After looking at everything with a flashlight I finally got discusted and went out for some serious offroading. After bashing the hell out of the truck, steep inclines, high RPM's due to low gearing, etc, my ride home was perfect and no more rattling noise! The sound never came back. :D
Maybe that was the truck's way of asking to be turned loose on the trails for a while! |
