Stud Tires available?? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 2004 Murano that's front wheel drive that was perfect for Florida, but not so great in the Wyoming snow that I'm now encountering. I'm trying to find snow tires, preferably stud tires, that are large enough for my MO. The dealerships out here were no help, and the tire stores weren't much more help either. It seems that I would have to go smaller if I wanted to buy stud tires, but I remember when I bought my new tires (Eagle LS's I believe) the tire dealer told me how important it was never to go smaller. Something about break clearance I believe. If anyone knows any companies that make larger studable tires or extremely good snow tires as I have to drive it over two to three passes if I go to town, please let me know!!! I'm getting desperate out here as the snow is already over three feet!
Thanks everyone!
Janessa

There are several OEM sized snow tires available from different manufacturers. I use the TOYO Obeserve G-02 Plus; here's a link of what they look like:

I am on my 3rd year with these and would not hesitate getting another set of them. I'm up in ski country every weekend in the winter and these tires definately performs in snow and ice.

I would look at some websites in the US that delivers to your door. I know that some folks on this site has used online purchases with great success.

You will no doubt see further replies regarding where they got theirs.

Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations for you, but I would strongly advise AGAINST studded tires and instead get a set of highly rated snow tires.

Studs are great for traction in the ice, but they SEVERELY hurt your traction on hard pavement, especially when wet. And they do terrible damage to the roads as well. They also don't last very long, so every 2 years (at least) you'll need to re-stud them which can cause even more problems.

A good snow tire should give almost as good of traction on snow and ice as studded tires, but doesn't have the downside of slipping around on dry or wet pavement.

I used to have studded tires for my old car when I was growing up, and really hated them. Held on like ice picks when it was icy, but wet pavement was like racing slicks on ice! I finally got a set of good snow tires and was amazed at the increased traction (in all situations) and MUCH less road noise compared to the studded tires.

Is there a Les Schwab Tire near you? If so, that is the place to go!

A point to keep in mind when shopping for snow tires. Look for the snow tire "symbol"; it will have mountain peaks with a snowflake on the sidewall.
