I have been having an issue with my 2003 Murano when I have been having to turn over the ignition for longer than normal before the vehicle will fire up (say for a few seconds). Once and a while when I turn over it fires right away, but most of the time this issue is present.
I had the fuel injector system flushed a few motnhs back, but that did not solve. Mechanic tells me I may need an injector replaced.
Has anyone had a similar issue or have any suggestions what what might be the cause? |

How many Kilometer on your Mo?, Your mech may be correct on your injector if he used a computer to check out your car. What drove you to do a fuel injector flush, Bad gas? Have you change your spark plugs?, since you got the Mo.
The answers to these questions will helps to diagnosis your car. |

| How old is your battery? People tend to experience harder/longer starts when their battery gets weak. |

The Murano has 121k km / 72k miles. The fuel injector flush was what the mechanic first chose to do when I brought the car in and described the problem. But, when he gave it back, the problem persisted. I have had the car for a bout a year and a half, and have not changed the spark plugs in that time.
The other point I should note is that the "Check Engine Soon" light comes on from time to time. When I took the car back to the mechanic after he did the fuel injector flush, the light was on and when he hooked up to the computer, it indiciated that the issue was one of the fuel injectors. The wierd thing is that the light has not stayed on permanently. It stays on for a couple days, then goes off for a couple weeks, then back on again.
This has lead me to question whether there is a problem with one of the fuel injectors, as if one was not working I would have thought the light would just stay on..... |

I'll check, it is probably the original battery, which would make it 6 years old now. |

Welcome to the forum!
The platinum-tipped spark plugs are good for 105,000 miles, so I doubt they are the cause of your problem.
Original battery? That's doubtful. The average service life of the OEM battery is 3-4 years. However, if you do have a 6-year-old battery under the hood then I would suspect that may the root of your problem and suggest you replace it ASAP.
In my opinion a fuel injector flush is a waste of money on a modern-day car and rarely fixes anything. It is simply a revenue-generator for many dealers and service stations.

I've been having the same issue for several years now.
last summer it all ended with the battery dying on me.
Ok, so you would think it's the battery, right? It doesn't make sense though. Here is why. First of all, it started happening when the car was barely 2 or so years old. Secondly, after the battery died, the problem persists with the new battery. I was trying to figure out when it is more likely to happen and so far can't establish a solid pattern.

Just change out my plugs at 124000 Kms and found that they had constructed a pit on the electrode which extend the spark. After I changed out the plugs my feul economy increased by 5%.
Just for info, my experience with platium platted plugs suggest 100,000 KMs is the life span of the plugs at least out here in Alberta. |

Weird... I'll check the battery for sure.
One thing (also does not make sense) that I notice is that when I have not drove the car for a while (say for several days), it starts up right away. Also, when I have been driving and turn the car off for a few minutes, then start up again, it also in most cases starts right away. The problem seems to happen most with regular driving patterns, like when it is off from ahywhere from 10 minutes to a day. |

| very similar pattern with me, I have to say. |

I've rarely seen platinum plugs with 100,000 miles on them that were not completely spent. Probably half that interval (say 60K miles) is safer if you want maximum performance. The plugs continue to work even when worn, but rather inefficiently, so they draw increased current from the coils.
As for the fuel injector, if a cleaning did not solve it, then might be time to have the individual injector replaced. |

I am taking my car in on Thursday. Going to have mechanic replace the fuel injector he told me was faulty. Will also have battery and spark plugs checked.
Will advise outcome and if any of this solves the problem. |
