feels like a moonbounce when driving --- shocks are shot - Click HERE for Original Thread

2004 with 55,000 miles.

Car goes bounce, bounce, bounce, boing, boing. Feels like a Slinky on wheels. Very weird.

So today I drove it into my neighborhood Nissan dealer to take a look, where the Service Advisor told me the shocks were shot.

OK, so, any other options besides the $1,255 he quoted me to get this fixed?

Help!

Any ideas, advice, suggestions are certainly appreciated...

I would think you should take it to a shop that does shocks like a midas that sounds very high for shocks when you can go out and buy 4 high performance shocks for 500 dollars

Never take your car to the dealer for non-warranty work. A reputable garage can usually do a better job for less.

Wow, that's amazing! My 04 (SE) has just over 57K miles and the suspension still feels great.

Are you the original owner of your car?

56K on my 2004 Murano and the struts and shocks were blown. The dealer replaced the front struts under warranty (Nissan extended warranty) but the rear shocks were not covered as they are considered "wear items." Weird, but I even verified with Nissan Consumer Services. I will install KYB shocks in the rear myself.

If you don't have extended warranty, I'd go with KYB struts and shocks and have a reputable shop in your area install them. I only went to the dealer since I had a warranty. I did get raped for the transmission fluid flush - $450. But I figure I'll pay them since, if there's any problem with the transfer case or the CVT, it's their baby. BTW, they found a leaking axle seal and fixed that under warranty too.

Since its out of warranty, the KYB GR-2's would be the way to go in this case - just have an independent shop install them and do a wheel alignment afterwards.

At 117k my shocks and struts were shot and I had them replaced by an independent. He put on KYB GR-2s. These gave a stiff, but nice ride.
