after long drives (2+ hours), my 2003 murano sl awd would exhibit delayed throttle response. for example, after coming to a stop, i would depress the throttle but there was no response. after about 1 or 1.5 seconds the engine would surge to 2K or more and the car would lurch forward.
another possibly related symptom was surging while using the cruise control. e.g. after setting the cruise, the car would alternate accelerating and coasting in about a 3 mph range rather than maintaining a steady speed.
on my most recent long (4+ hour) drive both the hesitation and cruise control surging were completely gone.
the weekend before i did the following:
1. disconnected the battery for about 18 hours
2. lightly cleaned the throttle body. there were some thin black deposits.
3. vacuumed up all the junk in the air box from underneath the air filter.
