Headlight "on" Warning - Click HERE for Original Thread

Where is the sensor for the headlight "on" indicator and key in ignition located? The interior light doesn't even come on. There is no longer a warning when the driver's door is opened for the headlights being on, key in ignition, or illumintion of interior lights when the door is opened , but the sensor on the passenger door works.

This is an '03 Murano...we bought it when everyone said it was a "funny looking car".

Welcome to the forum!

My guess would be the driver-side door sensor has failed. Unfortunately it is part of the latch mechanism.

I know you will not get a warning if the headlights are one but when you open the passenger side door does the interior light come one? (Is the switch set to the the "door" position?)

On my old '81 diesel VW Rabbit, there was a little pin that the door pushed against when closed. That determined whether the door was open or not.

I had that get stuck in the "compressed" position once, so that my dome light would not come on automatically when I opened the door. Turned out, there was just a lot of gunk on it making it hard to move in and out.

Cleaned it off, sprayed it down with WD-40, and it worked fine until I sold the car a couple years later.

Not sure if there's a similar thing on the MO, but it might just be a matter of finding that switch and seeing if it's stuck.

I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately, it looks like the "switch" is incorporated into the latch mechanism inside the door.

Is it possible that you have left the headlights switch on Auto, if the lights are on that control you will not get a audible alarm that your headlights are on.

actually the murano still uses the little compression rubber pin thing for sensing if the door is open......

I press it sometimes when I have the door open and the chiming gets irritating when i have the key in....

Where is your door switch located, because I do not see one on mine?
