I was wondering if someone could help me with a problem that just happened this morning. I was stopping to get breakfast before work and when I got into the turning lane the MO started a slight buck and seemed not to want to go. When I got into the parking lot and was sitting in the drive thru the MO seemed to not want to run it acted like it wanted to die, so after I got breakfast went to pull out of parking lot, still acting strange. I pressed the gas and got up to 40MPH it seemed fine. I got to work and it drove normal, I let sit running and seemed fine now. Anyone ever had this problem or have any ideal what it might be? I just had it service weekend before last, oil change and new air filter, but everything checked out okay then.

It sounds to me like it could be one of two things:
1) You could have a vacuum leak somewhere. If your air filter was just changed maybe the box wasn't put back together correctly. There is also a possibility that something after the MAV sensor has shaken loose and is causing a leak.
2) You could have a bad pedal position sensor. Did your MO just take off after you pressed the gas pedal?
Anybody else? |

Thanks for your reply. Yes, after pressing the gas pedal it took off like normal. What is a MAV sensor? If it was the something like the pedal postion sensor would the SES light come? The SES light never came on when this happened.

The MAV sensor reads the amount of air that is coming into your engine. It provides readings to the onboard computer (ECU) so it can time the injectors correctly so the appropriate mixture of air and gas is achieved.
If there is a vacuum leak in your system then it can cause an incorrect gas/air reading and cause all sorts of problems. It usually results in low power situations.
But...if your MO is driving normally now just keep an eye on it. Maybe your ECU went to a funky state and corrected itself. If it continues, then you have a real problem. Electronics can get weird sometimes.
I design and maintain aerospace electronics for a living. Sometimes, even the best designs do things that make you start cursing up a storm. Then after tons of troubleshooting and a reset the anomolies just seem to go away and never return. :D |

PearlMurano-
Have you changed your air filter recently? The reason I ask is because several people have reported engine problems similar to yours that were caused by air leaks in the intake tube. When changing the filter it is possible to loosen up the connections in the intake tube which can lead to the leaks.

Yes, the dealership changed my filter for me a couple of weekends ago. Is there any pictures of that on here somewhere so I can take a look and check it out? I am not really sure what to check.

Another member, wa4qfy, was having a similar problem and he determined it was a leak in the air intake tubes. Here is the photo that he posted showing the connections. Make sure the two band clamps are tight.

Thanks njjoe-
I will check these clamps today before I leave work. I hope this fixes my problem. |
