Does anyone on this board have any tattoos? I know a lot of people think that they are young and childish, but I've wanted one for a while and think that I am soon going to get one. I want a tribal band on my arm with a star in the middle and two or four words that describe me on each side of the star. Sort of my star to steer by, it would be a constant reminder of the morals and values I uphold. Some words I was thinking of using were: integrity, fidelity, passion...what do you think? If you have one, post it!

man, this is personal............i did think about getting one long time ago.........since then i changed my mind........and i am happy........

I do admitt though that some tattoos are work of art. I would not "wear" one though.........just my 2c............you are entitled to your own opinion. I am pretty sure if you do get tattoo you will be happy.

Since you are so insistant...I have a tattoo on my upper arm. It is
Britsth Columbian native art...a pacific salmon. I got this when my
son was born. It represents the recycling of life. The tatoo is about 3 inches round and is dark blue (never a fan of coloured injections). I love my Murano but not enough to get a MO tattoo.

Tattoos seem to be really popular these days. I guess if your young and hip enough, they seem really cool. Personally, I don't have one, or plan on getting one anytime soon. I just picture in about 50 years, all these old ladies named Ashley sitting around the nursing home, with multi-colored butterflies tattood on their sagging breasts.

I have a client who owns a Tattoo shop and does very well. They are married and have a couple of kids. To look at them, you'd think they were in the circus, but when you talk to them, they are about the brightest, nicest folks you'd want to meet. It's all about perception. In todays business environment, tattoos are frowned upon. In years to come though, they will be the norm. After this generation moves through the population, who knows. Why don't you just get something pierced?

Good Luck!:soapbox:

Tattoos are not just a passing trend. I am 50 and my earliest memories include many people with tattoos. They have been around for years in one form or the other and I expect always will be.
Each to their own but I have no regrets about geting mine. I would not be pleased if my 2 daughters (12 & 15) were to get a tattoo at this early stage in their life because they may in fact regret their choice some day. I waited until I was 45 to have mine done.

Just another thing...my tattoo is not visible when I am dressed in business attire. Unless I am in the pool or hot tub no one has to know I have it. I did it for personal reasons and my wife who also has a tattoo loves it

... if you think you really want a tattoo, try getting a Henna Tattoo in the pattern you want first. It'll last 3-4 weeks. See if that's something that works for you. If it does, then maybe get the real thing. If it doesn't, at least it's not permanent.

I have friends who have tattoos. Some like them a lot. Others (mostly my lady friends) find that as they get a little older, they want to have them removed. Unfortunately (and depending on skin type) it can scar quite badly. One of my lady friends with porcelain skin had one removed and it left a permanent scar in the shape of the tattoo.

I tried a Henna tattoo when I was at the beach. My family and I were messing around and we all got a Superman Logo with a tribal band around it. The bad part about it was that I had to go to Germany the next week on business. Had the tattoo been something taht I really wanted I wouldnt have been so nervous with it, but being that it was something just for kicks and giggles I was nervous the entire time it was visible on my bicep. I have a temp tattoo kit that is very similar to Henna that I am going to use to have the one I want put on my arm and do exactly as you said Bob...

...see all this thread needed was a kick in the pants! :p

A guy I worked with in the computer business about 15 years ago, always wore long sleeved shirts, even in the heat of the summer. I could never understand that, until I got to know him better and found out he had these really cool Dragons, down each arm.

If I was to get a tatto, it would be something like that, something that just leaps out at you and makes you stare.

But I don't care one way or another if I have one, so I probably won't bother, 'cause I'd rather spend the money on something else.

Kinda like Jesse James' "Pay Up Sucker" tattoo on the palm of his hand...

I have two tattoos. Both are what are considered "tribal art". The first one I got was a shark silhouette on my chest about 15 years ago. Since then I got an armband on my right arm just below my deltoid. I did the design of this one myself and boy it took a long time until I was happy enough with it to get it done permanently. I would agree with rtking that you should try it out as best you can on a temporary basis. (Seems you have done that already) If you are still gung ho about it then go for it. You only live once and if someone is going to hold it against you that you have a tattoo then they are not worth worrying about anyway.

Just something to add to the list of things to take into consideration...

I am not anti-tatoo, but I must mention that my son has spent $1200 and 6 painful laser sessions having a small tatoo he impulsively had done in college removed. If you think it through it will probably be ok.
