Has anyone ever used these? The dark are not listed for the MO yet but I read that they would be available in 6 months?
There just aren't enough accessories available yet for the MO! :x |
|
|
|
Oh yes they are! I purchased mine on-line about a month ago and the only ones available WERE the smoke. They look awsome! This is my 3rd set (purchased from MacNeil (sp?) auto products. I have them on both our MO and our ML320. Go get'em!

| Hey Steve, can you put up a picture of yours on th e Murano? :) |

| Steveg - you still out there? I don't remember seeing a pic before we had the new server/lost thread problem? |

| I ordered mine from Weathertech. They said they would be here in August. |

| Enforcer - the "Dark" or just the regular ones? |
|
|
| rainbowfarm |
I have one friend who loves his weatherflectors.
Has anyone tried Zymol? I am having trouble with the idea of "feeding" the car's surface. Rollite and car-wash wax have kept my Pathfinder repelling water for 100,000 km (60,000 miles or so). Anyway, is Zymol good?
Looking at the stone chips on the hood of the PF, I definitely want a bug deflector, too, for MO. Do they increase fuel consumption? Do rain deflectors?
How do the $100 US kind compare to the local auto supply kind (probably half the price)? |

Well...uhhh...I'll plead the 5th on the basis I ain't got a clue!
They look dark to me. Part number 72314. |
|
|
| KSmurano |
Thanks for the pics Enforcer - they look good & are dark enough for me too!.
Were they hard to put on?
I've only used the tape on VentVisors before & I've had a corner comes loose on another car.
What is that garage made out of? |
|
|
| Enforcer |
Not hard to put on. No tape, press fit. The fronts are solid but the back ones I'm not happy with. They seem loose. Also, the rear "ears" of the fronts hit the window when it rolls up. The fit is so tight there is a twist. Will have to look at moding that too.
Temporary shelter until the garage is built, bought it at costco. Steel frame with "canvas". |
|
|
| lnichols |
| Enforcer. I had these in my VW Golf and they made rolling up the window a little harder at the top (crank not power). Does it seem like the motor for the power window has to work a little harder to fully close the window? Also can you elaborate on the fit issues that you mentioned. Anyone know if WeatherTech has retail outlets or are they Internet/Mail Order exclusive. |
|
|
| Enforcer |
Well...a picture is worth a thousand words...
It hits, doesn't tug on the motor, it hits. Once it kicks the flector out then it rolls the rest of the way up easy. If it hit any harder though, the window obstruction sensor will kick in and roll the window back down. Not sure how to fix this one yet but I think it involves filing. |
|
|
| dtwalkerfl |
I went with thw Vent Visors from Ventshade because they go over the windows and not in the channels. I have heard of problems with roll up on these.
 |
|
|
| lnichols |
| dtwalkerfl, can you post the part numbers for the Vent Visor units and let us know if you got them local to you or from a online or mail order setup? The Vent Visor unit look a lot darker and I am a little concerned the the WeatherFlectors may require some modding after install. I had the VentVisors on a truck that I had for 5 Years and never had any issues with them. |
|
|
| KSmurano |
Enforcer - I thought I was going to try the WeatherTechs until you mentioned your problem & modding them?
I'm going to see what you think in a week or two?
That temporary lodging for the MO is pretty neat, it sounds like something I would have done!:) |
|
|
| Enforcer |
| I like the idea of the vent visors. Need some detail on how they are attached though. I may get rid of my weatherflectors. |
|
|
| lnichols |
Enforcer. All of the Ventvisors that I have seen, and the one set I have owned in the past, attach to the outside of the door, just above the window, using basically a doublesided tape. All you have to do is clean the area with alcohol, peel the tape covering off the Ventvisor, and apply. I looked at the Murano's doors last night and they have that black doof jam all the way around the windows so it would attach to that and would have a little bump out to go over the mirrors. Like I said I had them for 5+ years on another vehicle and never had any problems with them and would periodically check (i.e. pull on them) to make sure they were secure. The only issue would be if you ever wanted to remove them.
I called a local shop yesterday and they didn't have them in stock, but said they would be $66.48 which is much more than the list price of $51.45 on the link for the PDF. Here is a link to the pdf about the units VentVisor PDF . |

They use 4 pics of MOs, but none of them is wearing any of their products.
Seems odd. |

Enoforcer - I have the VentVisors on both my Accord & Cvan.
I bought them at the AutoZone & O'Reilly's auto parts stores.
The reason I was looking for something different was I have had 2 problems with them in the past.
On the Accord I broke one scrapping ice.
It was a back one so I went ahead & took both rears off since they don't just sell them seperately.
That glue took me a couple of weeks to get off & it did mark the black up some.
Once you have them you need to plan on keeping them.
On the Cvan I had a corner come loose, but I just put some silicon on it to keep it attached.
As I said, I'll wait for your final verdict?
They do make it nice, being able to let the windows cracked in the rain or when the car is parked in the sun all day!:) |
|
|
| Enforcer |
Well...I'm not sure what my final verdict is. Both have pros and cons. I think they both look great and serve the purpose. The weatherflectors are "attached" by compression/friction inside the molding. This means the windows are going to hit/rub on them and eventually the rubber seal will take a set with the extra thickness meaning they will eventually become permanent. The ventvisors are "glued" on the outside. Depending on what "glue" you use...double sided tape is pretty good but I'm a GE clear silicone RTV fan, they will also become permanent. I don't know what their material differences are but I would imagine both are brittle in the cold.
For the weatherflectors, filing the lip helped a bunch but the rears will have to be glued in as well. I'm thinking a small dab of RTV in the upper corners. |
|
|
| rainbowfarm |
Enforcer:
What is RTV? I know what GE silicone is.
I called my friend who has a camper and who always buys and installs rain thingies. I left a msg: what kind, bought where (in Canada somewhere), how installed, etc.
He sleeps in camper with windows open a crack, and loves his rain things. Fresh air with no wind noise is good, too. |
|
|
| Enforcer |
| Somebody probably trade marked RTV so they don't call it that. If I remember right, RTV=Room Temperature Vulcanizing? Silicone stuff that comes in white, black, blue, orange and several manufacturers. My favorite is the GE clear silicone sealant, a.k.a. RTV. |
|
|
| Enforcer |
Well, I ordered the Vent Shades from Auto Zone. Should be in on the 6th. We'll see how they work.
Permatex RTV works good too. Here is a picture of where to put a little dab of RTV on the rear deflectors to hold them in place. |

Are you sure they weren't for that Hummer?:D |

| Enforcer |
| LOL! Ok from now on, flourescent orange poster board! |

This looks like it requires 3 or 4 hands. It takes both of my hands to do things that require one hand.
I ordered the Nissan wind deflectors. Mr. Parts warned me of the price, and it's actually about the same as ordering aftermarkets. In the pic in his book, they look pretty slim and discreet. He offered, before I asked, to include the installation cost (and I suggested/requested a very careful installation).
My car wash tells me that any of this stuff, if well installed, is safe. Only a problem if loose.
I also found out why the front cross-bars on my Pathfinder roof rack are always slid forward beyond the tracks.
Leaving the car wash, when the truck goes down the ramp, all the water pours off the roof back onto the just-dried windscreen and hood, so I back up to blow it off the front. Yesterday, I heard the rails move and figured it's from the blower. They were more forward than ever, and I'm sure now that's what does it.
I also ordered the Nissan rear bumper pad, and he is investigating the version 1 and version 2 bug deflector. No bug deflector in his book (maybe the change/replacement issue?). He has only one part # for the bug thing.
Does anyone know how to identify the bad one vs. the good one? |

Enforc - since I'm finally serious about doing this mod I checked your part number & yours were the orginal WeatherFlectors.
FYI here is the response I got from McNeil:
Mr. Murphy,
Thank you for your interest in MacNeil Automotive.
The WeatherFlector Dark product was just introduced in February. We will
gradually be releasing more parts in the darker tint, but we most likely
will not have the Murano deflectors in the dark smoke for about six or seven
months. We will keep your information on file and contact you when they are
ready. You can also check our website periodically as we will update the
site when new applications are expected to arrive.
If you have any further questions regarding the WeatherTech products, please
call us and we will be happy to assist you.
Best regards,

I have just followed up with them to see if they are available yet & I also inquired about the possibility of a group buy discount? :D
I would really like to see a new topic "Group Buys" sometime soon! |

Hmmm... sounds like you can get them very dark and ... less dark?
My friend with the camper says that the dark plastic can obstruct your vision of what's around you. It took me almost an hour to notice the Nissan deflectors, because they are not too dark (and not too light). |

Mr. Murphy,
Thank you for your interest in MacNeil Automotive. We appear to have
received the WeatherFlectors Dark for the Nissan Murano on Friday, a little
ahead of schedule. Please call us at 1.800.441.6287 and we will be happy to

This guy is one-of-a-kind. His are after-market, probably Canadian Tire... no, he got them from a van detailing place, who did a so-so job, and did it at least twice.
The Nissans do not offer the obstruction that his does. Nice to see we now have the Weatherflector Dark option.
I just noticed that the Nissan ones either had (or were given during installation) cut-outs near the mirrors. Then I found a small piece of the plastic inside the MO. I'll have to inquire, but they seem to work.
It's raining today, but I had no plans of going anywhere (to test the deflectors). Did my local errands in the Olds, as usual. I've started collecting "Lease Miles" along with the "Air Miles". I think the lease miles are worth more.
If you save enough lease miles, you can trade them for a nice, long, comfy trip anywhere that has a road system contiguous to where you live (so, no Paris, for example). Maybe somewhere south in the winter... get to meet Homer maybe. |

I picked up a set of Ventvisors on ebay for $39.99 plus shipping which I believe was $7.00. They do fit on the outside which was weird since I helped install a set on a Toyota Highlander for a friend of mine in CA--they install inside the window vs on the door frame.
Just do a search for ventvisor. |

Dealer installed Nissan rain deflectors. Twice now, they have shifted so badly that they nearly came out (front doors). One has damaged the rubber along the top edge of the door sill (where window comes out of door, at the bottom).
One hit the window during closing, which triggered the safety thing that reopens the window. It was comical. I raised the window slowly until almost closed and then all the way.
They have repositioned them a few times. |

I am considering picking up the WeatherFlectors for my Mo, but my concern is that over time, will the window channel widen/stretch due to the weatherflector being in there? If I were to ever remove the weatherflectors, would the windows rattle/leak? I have emailed the folks at MacNeil but have not gotten a response. Anyone have any opinions of the long-term wear effects?
On the flipside, I don't know how keen I am on taping traditional deflectors on the outsides of the doors either. |
|
|
| special-k |
Anyone? Anyone?
Bueller? Bueller?
:D
I called MacNeil this morning and spoke to a salesperson who told me that they've had no complaints about the WeatherFlectors causing wear/stretching on the window channel after prolonged use... but I'm still curious to know if anyone has any real-world opinions on the product before I order?
Also, has anyone installed their Stone and Bug Deflectors ? Opinions or comparisons to the other large brands like Lund or AVS |
|
|
| Enforcer |
See this thread for the weatherflectors: http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/...s=&threadid=314
I went with the AVS on the '06. Tried the weatherflectors first but even putting them in the outside channel there was slight interference, just not a clunk. Might not cause any long term problems, but I just don't like it. Simply put the OEM channels aren't designed for the extra material in there. To each their own. :) Now if I can just figure out why I installed the rears? |
