| I currently purchase the Aries Step Bars for my Murano and I am having a really hard time installing them. The instructions are not all that good. Basically, i know I have to put the 1st bracket on the tow in the front, but I cant find where the L-bracket should be hooked up. None of the wholes have threading to hold the bolt. I talked to the guy and he says to put it on the brace for the engine, and there is an existing bolt there to replace. Anyone tried to install? any clues would be great! |

If u post a pic of the bars u have, I might be able to help you.
Read this thread........Bars
I know I wasn't too exact on my installation, but if you have a similiar side bar I can guide you.
The rear bar-bracket goes on the "kidney shape" bracket that's on the MO by the rear wheels underneath the car. You have to remove the OEM bolts and install the LONGER bolts (that came with your bars) so the bar-bracket can mounted beneath the "kidney shape" car bracket.
Let me know if this is any help. |

| The rear mounting area is in front of the rear wheel, underneath the car. That's where I had trouble. |

Ahh. thanks man. I found where I need to put on the bars. the only problem i have now is that to put the L-bracket on in the front. I think i need to tke out the 3 screws on that kidney shaped bracket thats there. I can take out 2 of them but im the 3rd one in the middle is completely round. How did you take that one off? I got the other brackets on now with no prblem. The L-bracket needs to go under the kidney shaped support or over. I dont think it was over the support piece.
Thanks for the other help though. It definitely helped.:o |

Are you still having difficulty mounting those Aries, I mounted them it took a little doing. The big trick is to loosely fasten the brackets and then loosely fasten the bars to the brackets........
I can get you a pic of the mount later if you need that....at least my interpretation of the instructions, great diagrams right?......
I monuted the L bracket under the kidney.......not against the frame of the Murano...... |

Boobaba, I really liked how you attached the nerf bars to your 'Mo.
I'm sorry to revive this topic but I didn't find out about this forum until recently. Mind if I ask you to post more pics of the bar attachment? Underneath the vehicle, that is - exactly where the bars are installed. I know you went through a lot to get it done but I wanted to make sure I can install them myself before I buy the stuff. Your help is greatly appreciated! |

| OK just got my aries bars off of ebay and i am trying to install them and cant figure out the front mounting bracket. the L shaped bracket doesnt seem to line up with the kidney shaped support? I seem to remember someone else having this problem and saying they had to drill new holes. anyone know what i am doing wrong? |

Jaycen29,
Hey, I got mine finally installed. I couldn't wait so I have them installed professionally. I'll try to post pics of the brackets so everybody can use them for reference in the future. Give me the weekend to take the pictures. |
|
|
| jaycen29 |
| thanks rsmpacis. how much did you have to pay to have them installed? was it just abody shop you took it too? I'm really anxious to get mine installed so I'm gonna go back out and try to figure it out again. |
|
|
| rsmpacis |
| it wasn't cheap, i can tell you that :( ... here's what i'll do... aside from two pictures, showing the front and rear brackets, I'll also take a snap of the OEM bolts that you need to remove from the Murano... sorry but I can't provide them 'til the weekend... |
|

| thats ok. any help is really appreciated. thanks |

| ok got them on, took me a lot longer than i thought it would though. the directions sucked. was missing one bolt so I had to go to the hardware store twice to find the right one. had to go back the second time because the bolt was a metric one which i was not aware of. But now that they are on I think they look great. cant wait till tommorrow to see them in the daylight since it was dark by the time i finished. |

| it seems like Aries is the most popular for Nerf bars but it also seems like everyone is having problems with them. are there any other reputable manufacturers? ive actually finally gotten serious about buying them but i dont want a headache or cheap product that will end up rusting. i was reading about one that had stainless steel brackets and bolts so they wouldnt rust, was that Aries? |
|
|

| my brackets were painted black, I believe the bolts were stainless though. I'll try and post some pics soon. |

All,
I was able to snap a few pics before my batteries went dead in my dig. camera. I hope for anyone installing these in the future that these pictures will be of some help. I'm not even sure if my buddy and I installed these correctly because the Aries Nerf Bar Package was missing the Installation instructions. Here Goes: |
|
|

| This is the front Drivers side. We used the long L bracket to attach to the Factory Support bar. The Aries L bracket then went to the Aries Angled bracket that attaches to the welded on Tow? hook bracket. |

| This is the rear Drivers side up close. |

Thanks so much for the awesome pics! My Aries nerf bars just arrived in the mail. Now I have to try and talk my brother into helping me install them (didn't come with directions which seems to be the norm from some of the other posts...)
:2: |

| lilbit_cmm - You will need 12mm, 14mm, and 19mm sockets probably 3/8 drive. The 12mm is for the front bolt that goes from the Aries "L" bracket up through the front Nissan support bracket(after removal of Nissan bolt). The 14mm will be needed to remove the two Nissan bolts from the rear support and replace with longer Aries bolts through the rear support bracket. The 19mm will be needed to bolt the Nerf Bars to the brackets. I honestly cannot remember what size bolt is used for the angled bracket that attaches to the front tow hooks on Driver and Passenger side. Remember that the drivers side and passenger side bars are definitely different. Mine were NOT marked, so it would be best to lay them out after you get the brackets installed so that the gap between the rocker panel and the Nerf bars is even from front to back. Good Luck! |
|
|
| lilbit_cmm |
Thanks for the tips. It came with all the hardware, so I just need to make sure the screws are all the right size.
If it's not raining to hard tomorrow, gonna try it then. Will post pics if I can! :) |

Bummer. Had my brother trying to help me out, but the 14mm screws for the back aren't actually 14mm, and he didn't have the correct size for a fit (too big for his 14mm thing, but too small for the 17mm, and he doesn't have anything in between). They kept slipping in the 17mm thing (yeah, tools aren't my forte), so they wouldn't ever screw in all the way.
So, we didn't even bother with the front mounts (although those fit the 12mm and 199mm perfect). I'm about to head out for some vacation, so I'll try again in a couple of weeks.
My beautiful Aries bars are just leaning up against a wall...

I still kind of like these chrome rocker bars running down along the bottom edge of the scuff trim. It matched the door handels and I have chrome wheels.
I have to locate them again and read up on the installation and cost. I went to 4X4 parts and searched their stuff as DeLuc05 said he got them from and also sent him an email. I cant seem to find them
Two question First Can someone point me i the right direction
and what do you all think? GRIP :D |

|
|
| zebelkhan |
| The link by Copperkat is for a bolt on tube side bar. The e-bay one is simply a stick on trim piece. The tube side bar will give the MO an "off road" kind of a look while perhaps offering some protection from the low swinging doors (especially on two door cars) while the trim piece just looks nice. I think the trim piece is overpriced if you ask me. :4: |
|
|
| GripperDon |
I agree expensive for a couple of strips. But the bas are bad also and shipping will be a killer. I think I like the Rocker Bars better, but need a better picture of them installed, something from the a more elevated view, I called 4X4 and asked but no answer yet. Also I want Chrome look to match the door handles and wheels, Stainless is the Grill but think I want the Chrome look.
I'll call Jason my new contact at Pinnacle Parts Departmentand see if he has a source.

I saw the rocker bars installed on a car at my dealership. I don't believe they will protect the doors from other cars and they make getting in and out of the car more difficult. You have to swing your legs over them to get in and out of the car and you will likely get your pants dirty rubbing on them if the bars are wet or dirty. On larger and taller SUVs sidesteps help some people climbing up into the car but thats not the case for the Murano. They are mainly for show.
The stainless strips that cover the rocker panels shown on the Ebay posting give the look with out the inconvience. |

I believe what you have a picture of Don is manik rocker bars.
I tried looking on their site but it hasn't been maintained in months...
(slap the web master)
on 4x4parts it does show them. They exist UNDER the door, not out from it. Nerf bars are what stick out the side dirtying your pants, if ur not carefull.
I LOVE the manik rocker bars, they really look good---and that is all they are, looks. They may keep a rock from smashing ur rocker panel but I don't think you or I will put ourselves in a place where that could happen.
Go to www.4x4parts.com /tube products /side bars Murano is at the top of the list. It is a Manik made bar.

Just finished washing the MO (wheels removed for under well clean)now it's in the garage untill the sun shines HARD. The poor SLK is now the Rain Car. |

pcs15394, just want to thank you for your pictures. The nerf bars arrived without any insallation instructions (surprise!) and for the first time in my life I felt helpless assembling something! :(
I usually don't even bother with instructions but this one was something else. Then I rememberd you had posted the pictures. I Printed them out, took them to the garage, and an hour later my MO looked great with a new set of nerf bars! :)
Thanks again! |

| Very Glad that the pictures were of some help. How do you like the look of the Nerf Bars? I really think they make mine look great, but as others have stated on this board, they take some getting used to when exiting the vehicle. Glad I don't have to worry about getting dirty snow, etc... on my pant leg when I get out. |

| Could not have done it without the pictures! Thanks again. I think the bars look great. Never seen mounting bolts like those included with the bars though... Metric bolts with non-metric heads....:3: Glad I had both sets! |

I was noticing and looking at other SUv's nerf bars and happened to see a Mercedes SUV (M320 I guess) and it had black nerf bars with the black foot pads on it.
I would think the black would look better with my MO since its Pewter with black trim. Really the only "chrome" so to speak is the grill, emblems and the door handles. I don't think the chrome nerf bars would look as good with my Pewter. Thoughts? |
|
|
| zebelkhan |
| Before I ordered my Aries I called a local shop to get info. They also recommended a black nerf bar for my MO which is also black (wow - nearly $600 installed!). I thought the black nerf bars make the MO look too SUV like. Since I figured these bars are really for looks only (at least on a MO) they needed to be seen and black nerf bar would not really do it. So I went with Aries polished stainless steel which looks just like chrome. You cant' really see them standing in front of the car but from the sides they shine and really accent the car and go well with door handles, tailpipe, and the wheels (eventhough I don't have chrome wheels) and I am very happy with them. I recommend stainless or chrome for any color MO. |

| I second what Zebelkhan stated. I have the Midnight Blue colored Murano with the chrome wheels and the stainless Aries bars really look nice on it. Of course it is a matter of personal preferance, either one would probably look great but the stainless really stands out. |

See I don't have chrome wheels though. I won't like the chrome wheels on our Pewter MO anyway. They look better on the darker colors.
It was just a thought on the black nerf bars. I'd like to see them photoshopped on a Pewter Mo though. They might actually look decent. If I buy some they will probably be Chrome though. |

It didn't come with any instructions at all! I cad to call them up and they sent me some very un-descriptive instructions thru e-mail. Anyhow..It took me about an hour and a half to install....1 hour for the first and half for the second. The washers they provided was barely big enough for the front tow hook. I'll post pics later.!
they look great tho!

They are a pain even with the instructions! Mine did not come with any instructions so I used your (pcs15394) pics to install mine. Just for kicks, I asked for and got the instruction sheet after I was done installing. There is no way I could have installed my nerf bars using that! Thanks to your pictures though, it was a snap! |

| If it had not been for my buddy I may have never figured it out. We were holding up brackets all over the place under the Murano. We finally settled on where they ended up by deducing that was the only place they made any sense. I took the pictures because I wished we had them when we were trying. I'm glad they helped. I finally feel like I gave something back that was of some use. Especially since I have taken and put to use so much of the information on this board. |

Yeah. Finally got my nerfs installed today!!! Gonna take some pictures as soon as I get the MO washed up and looking pretty.
Had my brother help me out on the install, but I did buy a couple of larger washers for the brackets that mount to the tow hook. The orginals were just way too small, and when I first put the driver's side bracket on, the washer slipped through the tow hook!
Anyway... Thanks again to all those who posted. My added two cents to help out others:
The rear bracket is mounted with 16mm screws, but they replace 14mm Nissan factory screws.
The front L-shape bracket is mounted with 13mm screws, but they replace 12mm Nissan factory screws.
Everything else uses 18mm screws... Just make sure you have your tools out!
Thanks again,

| Thanks for the clarification on the bolt sizes. I posted my re-hash the next day and was trying to remember all of the sizes. I was lucky, my buddy had tons of different size washers, so we were able to make some of them work. Post some pics of your new mod if you get a chance. |

And just for some follow up...
I've had them on for a month now, and they aren't just for looks. I didn't think that I'd be using them, but they are trully functional. I use them more getting in the MO simply because it's not always natural to try and use them getting out...
Anyway, I really like the way they set off the MO. And now that I have them, I've started noticing them on tons of other trucks! But, never seen another MO in Austin with them. So, I'm the original down here. :D
