My 03 SE has had a loose driver's seat from the get go--a tiny amount of slop but noticeable at every stop & go.
My first encounter with the dealer, and Nissan of America ended with them saying that it was a feature of the car and could not be fixed. Nissan customer service did get back to me and told me that they hoped to fix it in 04 model year.
Wonder of wonders, my dealer checked and there is a new part number for the seat motor, and he has ordered the part and will switch it as a warranty fix.
Will let you know if it actually fixes the problem...
Anyone gone this route? |

| There is actually a TSB for this issue. Ironically I too have my car in today to have that fixed along with the other common problems of noise from the window, clanking noise from the rear over bumps, and clicking from my CVT. |

Wrench, I believe I had the same problem. The dealer told me the same thing.
Thus, I had to fix it myself.
If it feels like a Slight movement towards the front left leg, near the thigh area. See my post and pics on this.
If I was savy enough to post the link here I would. Sorry.
Also did/does your seat have a slight flex when you start or stop? Kinda like a sway forward/backward.
I am having them replace the seat carriage this week per the TSB. |

| Well one problem fixed. Not quite sure what they did exactly. I think they replaced the guide rails. Hopefully they documented what they did. Now if only i can fix the other problems. I'll look back at the work order and see what they put down. |

| My dealer fixed the loose seat, I believe they followed the TSB. It was a warranty repair and I was not charged. The seat seems to be very stable now. |

estoyer,
Please keep us informed on what happens. I am also having the same problem and have an '04 like you do. Most of the complaints that I've seen and the TSB all are relating to '03s.
Still lovin' the Mo, though!!!
Thanks,

I took my Murano in to the dealership about a month ago to get a variety of things done, including getting the driver's side seat fixed per the TSB. They told me that they would have to order the part and would get in touch with me when it came in. Last weekend, after not hearing from them for three weeks, I went back and asked them about the part. They told me that the part was on backorder and that parts for the Murano were hard to get because "the car is so new." I reminded them that the 2005s were almost out and that parts shouldn't be so scarce these days. Has anyone else had a problem getting this part to fix the driver's seat? I'm thinking the dealership just never ordered the part to begin with and that they're just feeding me a line.

| For those of you with this problem, you definitely want to get it taken care of before you hit that 36,000 mile mark. The part alone will run you over $500.00. |

Jp, You are not alone. I have the same problem. As per the TSB, they are going to replace the carriage.
I too have waited 3 weeks for a back ordered carriage.
They are also going to replace the rubber run on the windows to stop the window rattle.
My MO was born Nov 03 and has the seat sway/window rattle and a ticking noise from the drivers door area. One would think these were problems with the 03's and the 04's would have had it fixed at the factory?!?!?!?!?!?!
Overall, I would not trade it in for anything else. they are very minor problems. |

I posted a thread (First Maintenance Blues) about this problem with my 04, the dealer replaced the seat part and then tightened the seat down after they tried to give my MO back to me with a rocking chair for a drivers seat. Now I am waiting for the replacement interior door panel and pillar to replace the scratch job they did on mine.
Be careful out there!:14: |

My 2004 was built 2 months after the posted service notice but the dealer ordered the defective frame work under the seat. They will contact me when it gets in. I'll keep you posted.......

Had my interior door panel replaced yesterday, the invoice they wrote up amused me. Instead of being truthful about scratching the original panel while replacing the seat frame, they said I had complained of noise coming from the door.
I still have to go back for the door pillar panel, they said the wrong part was ordered for that.
I was thankful that no other damage was done other than the greasy finger prints and the fact they didn't snap in the fastener closest to the front of the door. |

Same thing happened to me. They also go the scuff plate on the door sill.:1pat:
A few months later and the rocking seat is back. I may just live with it given the alternatives.:8: |

| No comfort in knowing that shoddy work exists on both sides of the border. I guess gambling on another dealer would be just that, a gamble. Anyway, they called me today, the other panel is in. I will be going back to my old mechanic for oil changes and general maint. when I'm not motivated to do it myself. He drives a Max. and is very pro Nissan. |

| I have a 04 SL. I am finding that the seat rocks while stopping. Also I am hearing a ticking while the windows are down. I won't even talk about the window rattle and the mark it leaves on the outside of the window. I'm going to service and need some advice on how to handle this. Thanks for ya'll help. |

Midnight, i posted a pic on how to fix that seat. There are 4 screws on the front bottom of your seat. At least 2 of them will need to be tighter and if you use some locktite the problem will end.
Now, this is something your dealer will not figure out or even be aware of. I went back 3 times and each time they told me the seat was within the Norm.....
But that slight movement went your take off or slow down quick sucks.
Let me know

where are the screws? are they the phlips in front the seat itself? I looks like the foam top moves not the frame it self. what do you think?? |

Okay here weee go. The adventure of the seat.:)
Look at your seat from the front. Its connected to the seat frame at two points. the two point are secured by 4 screws. The bottom 2 screws are the one that are about 1/8--1/4 loose. Use the right phillips so as to get enough torque. Better yet pull all the screws out and use lock tite.
I will look for the pic.
Questionsss anyone... commme onnn |

Tell you guys right now. Those bolts are the cause of the problem. Whenever you feel that pop/etc. I promise you one more of those have come loose a tad. Its odd that just being loose about 1/8 of a turn can make you feel that. hmmmmmmmmm
I say 1/4 to 1/8 but yours may be looser. Trust me. They will go tighter, thus fixing this Hell |

I applied the above rocking chair fix but for some reason it did not do the trick for me. So I finally got around to ask the dealer to fix it. As I had expected, they said the TSB for the rocking chair was for a 2003 and did not apply to my 2004. We then had the following short conversation:
Me: Why should that matter that TSB is for 2003 only?
Him: If there is no TSB, there may not be coverage
Me: What would you do if I brought the car in with a faild control module? Is there a TSB for that?
Him: No
Me: Is that still a failed part?
Him: yes
Me: Will you fix it under warranty?
Him: Yes
Me: So... is the seat a faild part even though there is no TSB, just like the module?
Him: Yes
Me: Is the car still under warranty?
Him: Yes
Me: Then fix the d#%n thing!
So they ordered the track and I will go back in to have that replaced soon I hope.
After the above conversation, they offered to also check into the right A pillar noise, window tick, and door lock out problem. He said: "eventhough your car does not qualify for adjustments anymore (I have 17k miles) but if we document them we will be able to help you later..." That was nice...
Last thing I heard from the service advisor before I left was "Please make sure you rate me excellent when you get the survey" to which I responded "sure" :2: |
|
|
| TonyD(90Z32TT) |
lol...Zeb that sounds exactly like the conversation I had with my dealer, except I just told them that I would give them the benefit of the doubt when it came to the survey and just not fill it out and send it in. I did that only because I have bought 3 cars from them in the last 3 years and normally they are very good about fixing things and I have given them high ratings in the past.
I am pretty sure all the service techs go to "Nissan SOP" school. Seems like we all hear a lot of..."Sir thats Standard." or "Sir thats normal operation" Yeah ok that high pitch metal on metal sound that occurs when I apply the brakes is normal...Just like the slight rocking in the drivers seat is normal...yeah! They actually tried to tell me one time that it was a safety feature. Wha WHAT?
Bah....Nissan still owns. Atleast we are not driving Chevys that need a head gasket replacement every 40 thousand miles. |

My dealer replaced the seat base in my '03 last summer. Everything has been great until the past few months, as the seat started to rock again, and has ever so slowly worsened.
When I first attempted to tighten the screws, only one moved a tiny bit. So, I backed them all out as recommended. This time they all moved quite a ways past the old position. It's been a couple days and it seems to have cured the problem. There is still an occasional tick noise. I need to get some Loctite just to make sure they don't loosen again.
Thanks for the help! |

I guess I will have to do this. I tried to tighten the screws, but they were already tight. Unscrewing them and putting them back in might do the trick. Thanks. |

| Got the rocking chair fixed. Dealer was great about it and all other issues. Family run so they aren't a huge place. Once you understand the ol' codger routine at the parts department and cashiers they are a nice bunch. The problem I got after the chair was fixed is the seat belt anchor is now so loose I'm half expecting it to come off in my hands. It's annoying if not dangerous. Any others have this issue? |

Thanks all!!!!!
When I was looking to adopt a Mo, I found this on all the 03 models that I drove; and assumed it was just something I'd have to deal with...But it started to get real noticable this weekend....probably something to do with nice weather and my quick starts:D
I'm slated to go in shortly to get a couple of things done....now I can add this to the list:2:

| Just an FYI that I brought Mo to my Nissan dealership yesterday and they fixed some quirks...squeaky armrest, etc. without issue. They also said they were ordering the part for the loose seat and it should be in shortly; very cool!! Thanks for all the help folks! |

If your car is still under warranty you don't need a TSB. Tell them the seat is busted and under warranty they HAVE TO fix it. That is what I did after they told me the same thing. |
