So admin, what's happenning? New server eh? Is it a dell?
Coincidently , my office dept at work just bought 2 new dell servers. Is it because of the "double-everything (memory, hd etc) " deal going on with dell last week?

Keep up the good work~.

I hope it's not a Dell... ;) Dell is the evil empire... (I'm an HP spouse, so I'm paid to say that...) :)

Well, I needed to take the site down for some maintenance, but forgot to update the message to a proper one. Everything is back to normal I presume?

Jaak, we love ya here, but HP is the evil empire!! You wouldn't believe how much they copy off IBM's business models and activities. HP Services?

Very very happy IBM Global Services employee here.

And to put real value into this post, what happened to the http:// button in posts?!?!

edit: (sees URLs automatically converted) Oh.

second edit: I was hoping the time zones would be fixed, but alas. I posted at 5:00 ET, and the server shows 11:47am. Er well!

Well - it was Compaq Services - which was originally Digital Services. And I'd guess that was probably put in place 'back in the day'.

Dell is more like the Evil 3rd World country than empire. They sell PCs - but I wouldn't use their servers for anything.

Hey Eastern, HP's insanely jealous of how successful IBM's services have been... So I don't blame them for a second, trying to copy them! While Big Blue is truly the evil empire, I actually like them too. (Shhh... Don't tell my wife!) as my Brother's an IBM dealer and I've got a few IBM parts in various machines (Yes HP machines).

My employer uses IBM's 7HP Silicon Germanium process to provide blindingly fast products that smoke all our competition, so there's certainly bleeding edge technology there. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've seen HP truly on the cutting edge, in that regard.

Still, I love their products. Especially the Alpha processor. Oh, that's right, it's gone... That was DEC. er, I mean Compaq, er, I mean HP. Huh???

HP or compaq or dell or ibm, i have all of them

I have:
- one dell pc in the bed room
- one ibm 17" lcd hooked up to the dell
- one compaq (not hp) in the living room as my media center and domain controller
- one gateway pc at work.
- one dual xeon processor dell workstation at work.
- one old ibm laptop for home and work
- and soon to be purchase: HP pav laptop.

Dont you all love market variaties?....

I spent a lifetime working on HP's Non Stop...........I mean Compaq's Non Stop...............uh, actually I was with the original, Tandem Computers for 12 years.
1000 CPUs or more with one OS image.
1700 (last I heard) with a single OS image at AOL.
17 million users, 5 million concurrent users.
Pretty good little mini computer.........

Who cares what the server is!! But I am impressed with what I see as a substantial increase in speed jumping from thread to thread.

Being old fashioned when it comes to PCs, mine is operating on Windows 95 with a 56k dial-up - which right now is only running at 42.6 - but overall it keeps the viruses at bay.
