uh r they ever gonna come out with the z tubes 4 the mo and any idea when thats gonna happen.

I ordered one a couple days ago....I'll post pics if it fits
simplesb
Umm what are z tubes?
nismomurano
where did u get it from?
csheen
Yes..could someone tell me what they are as well?:2: :2: :2:
Tyler_Canada
Z tubes are a replacement for the "dryer hose" that connects the throttle to the intake manifold. They are smoother inside, giving better airflow and a few more horsepower. I have a feeling that it won't fit, and they won't make one to fit. Basically, G35 owners found that the tube from the Z would fit on their cars. What you have to realize is that these are not performance aftermarket parts, these are stock parts that may fit on other vehicles.

here you go : ztubes

Now I am no mechanic I only know what little I do from what I read in the forums, but would extra horsepower cause more stress on a supposedly already stress CVT?
nismomurano
i dunno how much the cvt can handle but it wont break if u do minor things, will a murano jwt pop charger fit on it.

This is what you want.

Fits, and HP gains are documented.

If CVT's were so fragile Mo's wouldn't have a 3500 towing capacity. I think Towing would put alot of stress on our CVT's yet Mo's can handel it.....IMO i don't think 5-10 horses will make any diffrence...

I doubt very much that the replacement for this tube will generate more HPs in a restricted Murano environment (both intake and exhaust would have to be greatly improved before any noticeable gain would come from such changes).

In a 350Z or G35, both the intake and the exhaust are already designed to maximize the flow so that if you remove a small restriction in the middle, it will show all the way.

Think of this as a funnel. You may increase the top side or the middle of the funnel by whatever ratio you want. As long as the bottom opening remains this little, you won't get more flow out of there and no HP gain.
jaak
Have you ever noticed that all these "cheap" HP improvements give you from 4-10 HP? It's like Golf, where all the little things are supposed to add another 100 or so ft. If you took them and put them all together, people would be hitting golf balls for miles.

I am automatically suspicious of claims like this. Air density changes can move your HP around this much. And while much of this is like a Placebo, where people believe that there's more power, after doing a mod, I find it difficult to believe that a person's behind can actually detect a 2-4% difference in HP.

Not to say that some of these things don't work, but it seems like a lot of trouble for a change that is so insignificant.

40HP better? That's worth pursuing... 4HP? I'm not so sure...

As far as the CVT goes, the computer limits the engine from high torque conditions, so as long as that still works with a supercharger on it, the CVT will survive, but it will wear out sooner. That's my impression from what I've read.
dmako
Small gain using the Injen... but still, not to bad.
b0xdesigns
It fits...
zebelkhan
Can you report on any HP gain? Also post some pics please.
b0xdesigns

Thats how my old ghetto intake looked like. I'll take some shots of the new tube later today. I need to buy a longer PCV tube tho. Anyhow as far as HP gains i'm sure i sangged a couple. Its also a little louder. Over all i'm happy with it.
dmako
Yes please post pics.

I'd like to see how the Z tube from a Z fits the Murano since the engines are mounted differently.

Also assuming a POP-charger at the end?
Tyler_Canada
Sweet, something more for me to add.
b0xdesigns

I had to buy a new PCV hose from pep boys that ran about 2 bucks. But thats it.

Anyway you could record a sound clip of the setup? I woudl love to hear the VQ come to life!

Let me see what i can do

that will be great!:D

heres the sound clip you asked for...its a quick run thrugh first thru third gear . I have a SE with the 6 speed.............................

Oh its music to my ears! I have a JWT cone, aluminum midpipe (similar to the ztube) and aftermarket free flow Y-pipe on my 97 Maxima, and thats exactly how it sounded like (your clip).

Without a doubt I will be getting the JWT cone for the Murano as well. What a sweet sounding V6!

My only question is, will it work with a pop charger?
The pop charger goes straight on the end of the MAF, but the filter in the picture uses a "bent" section first.
Snow MO
bummer...cant pull it up here...is the server down? :(
b0xdesigns
The pop charger should work.

The link still works for me... try it again snow mo

I'm getting pretty good mpg's. I hardly have to step on the gas as much. Its alot more responsive than stock....ALOT more....I do also have my resonator off and a grounding kit. I don't know how much that helped.

Can anyone host the file for me?
b0xdesigns
Heres another link
Snow MO
OK...that sounds great!!!!! :p

I think if I could get that sound, perhaps a little deeper, then I would be extremely happy. Where did you record that from? Did you stick the microphone out of the window?

:29: two thumbs up :29:
b0xdesigns
no the mic was actually in the hood.....i brought my laptop and recorded it with that. Thats why the sound quality isn't too great....the wind was blowing in to the mic too.....
Snow MO
That's what I think it should sound like from the factory.

The only thing that I can't imagine is what it would sound like from the outside as you drove by at full throttle. So many people don't know what a CVT is and to hear the VQ go screaming by constantly at 6000 RPMs would probably be alarming to some. They'd be thinking "When is he going to shift?"
Tyler_Canada
Yeah, when I punch it I'm sure people are thinking that... but as I pull way ahead, they must realize I'm not in 1 gear. If I heard the sounds my Murano makes in someone elses car, I would be sure it was about to die.
Snow MO
The first comment my friend's girlfriend made when she was in my MO and we were merging onto the highway was "it doesn't sound right." This was after I explained the transmission. Needless to say, I don't offer to pick them up anymore! ;)
nismomurano
i just got a z tube with a pop charger and the sound is ASOME i really dont kno how fast it is i didnt really floor it but i cant wait til i get on the highway.
dmako
Which pop-charger do you have Z, Murano?

I ordered a pop-charger for a Murano, wondering if it'll fit the Z tube.
Or does it matter?

Is it as simple as: Z tube, MO mass-air, pop-charger or what?

Yes, it's that simple. What I meant by will the Z tube and pop charger work together is, will the Z tube position the pop charger in a way that the pop charger doesn't fit in the engine bay? And since that apparently isn't a problem, I'll be ordering one ASAP.
jaycen29
will it work with the Injen intake?
nismomurano
the z tube pushes the pop charge a lil foward its not as back.

That sounds good... slightly colder air.
dmako
No

It's basicly doing what the Injen does. It's a short ram style tube that's more aerodynamic and a larger dia. that the stock murano air tube.
