Just got email at work today. Apparently ALL THE CELL PHONE NUMBERS will be released shortly to the public so telemarketers will start calling us and using our minutes! I have already registered my private and company cell phones. If you think it is a good idea folow this link: https://www.donotcall.gov

That is true for all cell phone companies except Verizon Wireless. I work for Verizon Wireless and we will not publish any cell phone numbers...They will all be kept private.

Hmmm... not EXACTLY true. Check out the WHOLE story at the urban legends homepage. Even non-Verizon Wireless users look like they don't have much to worry about - for now.

u gotta be kidding me.. is there ne thing we can do?? they cant just be calling us all day long wasting our minutes.. plus the times they call are peak... thats gonna really suck..

I would not trust anything. If there is a $ to be made somebody will go for it. If they define "Publish" as a printed materials that's fine for them. In the age of electronic media it means nothing. I do not have to "Publish" anything i a traditional sense and still make the information available to all interested parties.

Registering doesn't hurt anyway. So I did it. Let's hope there are still a few reasonable people and the cell phone numbers will remain private.

Done, and done. Thanks, Kris. I was one of the lucky 20 million souls to hear about that site after its creation, and got my numbers in during the first round of cutoffs. I couldn't remember if I registered my cellphones back then or not, so I did it again to be sure.

I don't pay for inbound calls (one of the few reasons I can't leave Nextel) but I still didn't want to be annoyed during the workday.
