That is pretty cool. Now I wonder if that is really my computer's IP address here at work. :D |

| Easy to check out just type the numbers in the address bar and hit return. If you get the request to sign in give it a try. Worked for me and it was correct. |

I think you can get the same information from the Start/Run/ type "CMD" (without the quotes) and hit enter. When the DOS window pops up, type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and you'll see all your details.
Type exit to close the little DOS window. |

| The Ipconfig gave a different address however his shows the address of my router that is making the connection to the internet. The one I got using IPconig is the ethernet card in the computer. At least thats what happened to me. (others may vary) When I entered his Ip numbers into the address of IE I get to my router. RICHE told me the software comes from DanaSoft.com so I went and looked you might also. |

Sounds about right.
ipconfig should show your local (private) address, and other info.
When you go to a site, a lookup occurs to resolve the url to an IP address (DNS) it will retun an addrees that is not on your local sub net (network mask) then IP will try going out thru the default gateway (router) that is (should be) connected to the internet. This is the address that is posted. |

| I don't see the IP address anywhere when I used ipconfig /all. Maybe my company is routing the connection to various random points around the globe to avoid detection. |

| dmako, thanks, Bingo. :D |

Do a ipconfig /all > ip.txt
open ip.txt in notepad
copy it, and post out here
<< or not due to security reasons>>
It must have something.

It's a cool little signature that I've seen used on other forums (power/speed boats). I thought I would try it out here and see what kind of reponse it would get:p It's real easy to set up and use, just go to http://www.danasoft.com on it's on the left side of the page.
Yes, I a systems engineer by trade and can help out on networking issues. |

I think I'll hold off for security reasons.... and the job security too
But it shows that my ip address is 199.xx.xxx.xx
In the ipconfig /all command I do not see "199.x.x.x" anywhere
It shows the :
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DNS Servers
Primary WINS Server
Secondary WINS Server
none of these ip address match. |

Your ip address of 199.xxx.xxx is your computer ip address from the switch/router. The ip address being shown is from your office's gateway to the internet. You will not see that ip using ipconfig /all. That's a good thing:18: |
