XBOX with Wireless network card? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Snow MO
Since a couple of people were able to put an XBOX in their cars I figured that someone here might know, and I can't browse XBOX forums from work so...

Last night I bought a Linksys Wireless-G network card to attach to an XBOX that I have. I ran through the config on my computer and then used my wirless router (Netgear) to allow it's MAC address. Unfortunately, I can't get the XBOX to cooperate. It won't find the card.

Ideas?

The bright side of things is I was able to get my TiVO/DVR on the network, now I can watch movies from any computer in the house and play my MP3s and Pictures from the TV.

We're high tech car owners...come on, you have to carry it over to other things right?

I have the WGAA54G plugged into my xbox and a WRT54G in my computers router. What would you like to know other than these Linksys are terrible to get to talk to each other, I spent at least a total of 15 hours on it.

I want to know how you did that. It would be nice to play from a TiVO/DVR in my car.

The best thing that would be most effective is to refer you to web pages that helped me. I very much wish I had a series of steps I could write down, but I don't. Iwill do my best to go over some settings to go along with the references I will get together.

It will take me a little time to assemble the info. To be honest I hope my keeps working as it was so hard and convoluted to do. I get back to you on this in a little while. But If I can do you can do it and it will get done.

First what brand and model xame adapter and routers do you have? I ask beacuse the first thing I did was to get the router to see the xbox using a wired connection and then switched to wireless. Without my doing that I don't think I would have ever gotten it to work. Th game boards all hate the Linksys, which I sure wish I had know before I bought it. Oh well.

Also turn on your xbox and get a program or dashboard up that tells what IP your xbox is currently showing.

As they say "I'll be Back!"

I don't have an x-box. I have a regular car pc so wireless network connection is not a problem at all. I have D-link access point/router with linksys USB network adaptor on the PC. I have network connectivity now.

SmowMo has the Xbox and You are connected NOW. I am lost, What is it you (Zelbelkhan) want to know about "How I did What"
GripperDon
You are correct Dennis!

Alright! I didn't think I would get a lot of responses.

Don,
I will give you the answers when I get home. If you can provide me with any sites that you found helpful I would appreciate it.

Z,
I have a series 2 TiVo and it came with Desktop software that allows this communication back and forth. However I hear that the transfer rate is kind of slow. A high quality sitcom could take 2 hours to transfer. This may be a pain/drain when transfering to a carpc, unless you brought it into the house.

I get it now...Sorry for

Thank you very much! Last night was a hectic evening and I didn't get a chance to even look at the model number of my router. I appreciate your help! :D

I do not have a XBox myself but I believe that a plain wireless card will not work. You actually need to use a wireless gaming adapter like this one for things to go smooth:

Here the thread to look at.

I have the D-Link 614+ router/wireless access point that I hook my mac G4 to directly via ethernet cable. My powerbook G4 has its own wireless capability and links up without any trouble.

For X-Mas I bought my son the D-Link wireless gaming adaptor which plugs into the ethernet port on the back of the unit. It was literally plug and play....instant hookup and online gaming (after going thru the Microsoft reg. process.)

On their website Microsoft has a list of xbox live compatible wireless routers, etc. Did you check this list??
GripperDon
I did. Grip. :D
