i wouldnt recommend getting it repaired.... cuz unless it gets done by the manufacturer i wouldnt have any CRT tech have a look at LCD... these things havent started their journeys yet to the repair shops so, they are still new for the techs.... but if someone around ur area is qualified enough to do so... try getting it repaired with minimal cost....

Kris, viewsonic has treated me very well warranty-wise in the past. I had several CRT monitors go out (past the warranty period) and when I talked to a customer rep on the phone, they agreed to replace it under warranty (and even overnight the new monitor to me). I suggest calling Viewsonic before tossing your busted monitor. You never know. Because of the excellent viewsonic service, I've been using their products for over 10 years now.
Kris
This is my first VieSonic product. I was very happy with the image quality. It was exceptional. Their site states 3 year warranty, however when I called them they said 1 year as i purchased the monitor from CompUSA. Go figure. The person on the phone was nice but...............that's all. I might take a risk and have it repaired. Still I leaves bad taste. Same product different warranty for different shops/distribution channels. Pity, I paid such a premuim. I am not sure if I will go with ViewSonic anymore.

If i were you i would just open it up and check stuff like fuses and connectors on the boards.
If you won't find anything wrong with it visually it will be cheaper to buy a new one.
Btw, check this one out, i think it's a today only special .... Linky
Enjoy

I'm not a huge fan of Dell, but I recently got this monitor at work. It's beautiful!. It is a 20.1 wide screen, has 12ms response time, side USB, height adjustment, and pivot. All for $561.75. Might be worth checking out if you're going to go ahead and get a replacement.

Sorry bout ur loss Kris, bummer d00d.
I just put a 19 on the scrap heep at work. I yanked it apart but found no obvious fixable stuff.
The Dell flat screens are the cheapest, that's for sure. Watch for the ones with DVI inputs, that's the one you want.
Does ur vid card output DVI?

I luv Luv LUV lcd's but dam, here I sit in front of a perfect, brite 21" crt that is 8 years old....don't build'em like that any more.
Kris
Yes, it is painfull. I got LCD because of photos. They look great on LCD. And my workflow was color managed so I could easily match screen with the printer output.

Yes, my card has DVI output. But I am still using analog. Why? Do not know…..

I just did some more research and found on both ComUSA and ViewSonic websites info on warranty. Both say 3 years. Also the CD that came with the monitor has a pdf file with an instruction manual and it says 3 years warranty. Interesting.

There is another model VX910 (my is VX900) that has 1 year warranty. So I am going to fight. I believe I have a case. I did not buy extended warranty as I thought 3 year was good enough. After that I can get a new one. Was I wrong? Hm, maybe, maybe not.

LCD are somtimes easily repairable if you find the right parts at bargain price.

Usually if you see picture on screen but its not lit...means you need either inverter or backlight.....backlights rarely goes bad so it has to be inverter which do go bad once in a while....

If you dont see anything on screen.....then maybe your not getting any signal from the video card or worst of all you have fried your video processor inside the monitor....

I cant tell you anything unless i get all the details....if you email with more details....ill see what i can do.....

in most cases its easy fix....

It could also be a bad power supply. Do you notice any power surges or brown outs in your area? Regardless, I'd be looking for (at a minimum) a heck of a deal on a new one from Viewsonic. Maybe they could see their way to giving you one of their best new LCD products for 1/2 price, just to keep you in the family.

You should be able to work something out with them. Keep trying and try not to lose your composure when your on the phone with them. Maybe COMPUSA could offer one of their ViewSonic contact phone numbers (to get you beyond the obvious level one support you've already found)?
Kris
Received email from ViewSonic this morning. They wanted copies of receipts etc. 1 hour later I received RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number. I sent my email from work. I guess the corporate name might have helped. Who knows.

Anyway, ViewSonic honors the warranty. So I am happy now.

Interestingly I was looking for replacement and it still was ViewSonic........

Thanks for your help guys.

YAY Kris!
:D
Use your DVI out to your newie when it gets in, you will notice a drastic improvement to moving pictures, like watching a DVD or playing a game.

Turned out to be a strong positive for Viewsonic.

I guess you are right.

I do like the ViewSonic monitors. I think the image quality is exceptional. The warranty - I believe I was right from the begining. The guy who answered the phone got it wrong, just a "small omission".

Just added second monitor for my work computer. I always read how nice it is to have two monitors and I was skeptical. Till now!

Man, this things rock! :D

So much real-estate! Most importantly I can see more than one “good size” windows at the same time!

WOW!

I have Quad setup on all computers in my office.
