I have stumbled on this site quite a long time ago. I simply typed Nissan.com and to my surprise I found a computer site! Anyway, big corporations are very serious bout the name. I work for one of this monsters and I have to say the rules how and when to use the name are very stringent. We even have our own fonts! The logo, which is basically name, has very well defined color (patented or trademarked for that matter), style etc.
I really feel sorry for the owner of the Nissan.com site. It seems like Nissan Motor Co. just was late to register the domain name. I can only imagine how many people out there have the Nissan name. Should they change it because Nissan Motor? Doubt it. I wish him well. If Nissan Motor was smart they should just buy the domain rights from this poor fellow…..Just my opinion. |

| No money in it for the lawyers that way. And they are the ones advising the company what to do! :( |

| Don, you are right. It would have been too simply........and too logical for that matter. |

Scary but frightening, isn't it... If only a part of the money spent on lawyers could be put towards something useful...:(
Don't get me wrong, I believe in the legal system, but I don't believe in petty lawsuits. I remember thinking in the early 90's how many companies had not clued into the internet and that buying up domain names would have been profitable. But back then, a domain name was not cheap for an individual to purchase!
I actually spent a lunch break, trying various ones and was surprised at how many weren't active. Of course, Microsoft was still asleep at the wheel as well, with no browser. I was thrilled to go from Gopher to NCSA Mosaic, which became Netscape. Interesting time... Did my first linux box as well. Only 60 floppy disks!
That Nissan computer site used to have more information than it seems to now.... |

I ran into the nissan.com website earlier today and was flabbergasted by the arrogance of Nissan Motors. This is a classic case of a corporate giant trying to bully a small "Mom and Pop" operation.
I guess the auto giant's pocketbook is so deep it just figured it would just bury poor Mr. Uzi Nissan in legal costs. It really is not fair. I'd love to see the courts award him damages.

While reading the story of nissan.com (little guy) versus nissanusa.com (Corporate Big Guy) I was surprised to learn that the French automaker Renault holds a 44.4% controlling interest in Nissan Motor Company. That is not a comforting thought.

Moderators-
We should relocate this thread to the General Discussions header since it really has nothing to do with Audio & Electronics.

The Renault buy in for Nissan brought along with it Carlos Ghosn, who pretty much saved Nissan by aggressively cutting costs and revamping the entire vehicle lineup. The result is that Nissan is one of the most profitable car companies now, but the mad rush towards new products has led to a general decline in overall build quality (as we have all experienced with the Murano). |

Eric,
you may be right about the quality though is still not bad and the overall results are stunning! Look at the model lineup! And honestly, the quality is not that bad either. |
