| Leather. With a 3 and 1 year old it cleans up so much easier!!! Plus I just like it better. |

I wanted cloth...
Leather is cold in the winter, hot in the summer (no "cooled seats" option in the MO... heheh), and most importantly, too easy to damage. If I get in with wet or muddy clothes after skiing, at least I know I can ScotchGuard my cloth seats, and if worse comes to worse -- steam clean them.
I'm disappointed in the fact that with most manufacturers, Nissan included, you can only get the "best" options with leather. I would have loved the seat memory feature. |
|
|
| Eric L. |
| I had no opinion on either but I had to have VDC, which required the purchase of the leather option package. |

| Had to go with leather for easy cleanup. Auto leather is so durable compared to 'nice' home leather. A little leather cleaner and conditioner and life is good. Oh yeah - and durable. |
|
|
| Jim C |
| Ditto - leather for looks and ease of clean up. Trying getting dog hair out of cloth seats. Impossible. It works its way in like porcupine quills and you never get all of it out. Besides, leather is also more hygenic. I know that after using cleaner and conditioner, the leather is clean. Cloth is too permeable to get clean all the way. |

Had leather for years, and I love it... The cloth got me on the Murano, though... I like the door panels, it looks like suede and I also like the pattern on the cloth.
I'll be back to leather on the next one though. I do miss it... |

| Cloth. I actually think that Nissan did a good job there. Good quality fabrics IMHO. |

Cloth; not just any cloth, MO cloth. But leather is nice too.
Leather:
Slips and slides like a wet banana in the corners, just make sure your hangin'on.
Stretches, cracks, and wrinkles.
Cold in the winter and butt sticky sweaty in the heat.
But it does feel oh so good
:31: |

| Dogs and lumber, had to go with the cloth, though I agree the memory seats would have been nice. At 30k still looks like I just drove it off the lot. Great quality "micro suede" looking cloth, I must say. |

- i dont want the comvinience package, hence no heated seat. Leather with no heated seat, freezing butt in winter.
- nissan cloth does not look too bad either.
- i clean it using this: |

| I must say I am surprised, but it seems to me the folks that pick Cloth do it mainly ,but not only , as they feel the Leather shows wear and tear worse than Cloth Am I getting this correct? Grip :D |

That's not why I picked it... I thought the cloth truly looked better in the Murano.
The Murano's interior is fairly plain with nice simple lines. Plain in a good way... I love the fact that it until recently on some models, does not have woodgrain. But when I got into the leather, I noticed there was no patterning on it, it was very plain. Too plain for my liking, especially in the charcoal.
Now I'm sure I would have gotten used to it, as I love leather, but first impressions, the cloth, with it's nice suede look on the doors and the little squares on the seat, looked really sharp, so I was sold...
Having driven both, I can honestly say, either would be fine. And since I wear a leather coat, having the grip on me from the cloth, is good.... Especially in the corners, when my knee is bracing me against the door and all the stuff in the back is rolling over itself from one side to the other and the wheels are lifting off the ground on one side.... |

I know this is a silly question - but regarding the cold...
If it is 20* outside and your car sits for an extended period of time - let's say 8 hours overnight - isn't everything going to be 20* regardless of what it is made of? It can't get any colder or warmer, right? |
|
|
| GripperDon |
| "having a "grip" on me from the cloth" a pun! and a naturally occuring one at that, WOW1maybe you aren't as bad as everyone say's. A punster WOW Rememberthe guy sitting by the copy machine the "Punster?" :2: :18: |
|
|
| GripperDon |
" It can't get any colder or warmer, right?"
Correct O! You are right about the equal temperature.
Heat transfer is the key to how one thing feels colder or hotter than the other when at the same temperature.
1. The temperature has to be different from the skin, typically 87.5 on the surface, still air.
2. Our nerve ending "report" to the brain if they sense the local surface skin cells expanding or contracting, (blood flowing into or out of). Heat flow in to expand. Heat flow out for contracting.
3. We (our brains) interpret this nerve info as hot or cold.
4. After a little time the skin surface tends to equalize with the surroundings and the "sensation" of hot or cold reduces or quits. This is why the shower is hot when we first get in and OK later even thought we have not changed the temperature of the water no has the water heater run out of hotter water.
THEREFOR the Leather with it's superior heat transfer capability over cloth, better contact, less air on surface, higher density etc. make you decide they "FEEL" colder or hotter to the touch than cloth.
GEE aren't you glad you asked that question, all this blather you would have rather never heard. :D |
|
|
| GMTURBO43 |
Nope - just wanted to bring up that it is really colder. :)
Plus, with heated seats it doesn't matter.
It's kinda like people being concerned for there car with regards to windchill. Windchill has no effect on non-living things. |
|
|
| GripperDon |
| Best heated seats I ever had, just the right temperature. The MB is both too hot and on low, not enough. :D |

Don't usually see cloth seats in high priced luxury cars (yeah, there are rare exceptions). Leather is the norm.
Of course, there is precious little leather in our "leather seating surfaces" seats. Just the middle panel under your butt and behind your back. The rest is all synthetic (even easier to keep clean!).
As to the objection of having cow parts in luxury cars in some markets. ROFL. I guess the environmental impact of a V8 S class MB stops at the cows who lose their hides to make the seatcovers :D |
|
|
| Ed Di Lorenzo |
| Cloth- When we test drove the MO the demo had leather and my son was sliding around too much in the back seat., even with the belt on! |
|
|
| Eric L. |
Yep its mostly vinyl (which looks convincingly like the leather part of the seats) - I wonder does that mean its great vinyl, or really bad leather? :D
The leather equipped Muranos also have different door inserts (probably more vinyl).

Leather was a must have. Like it better, plus I really wanted heated seats.
So why do I need heated seats living in Texas??? 'Cause I can't stand the cold! I'm addicted to them. My drive to work just isn't the same without warming my buns. Plus, it helps out lower back pain if you're doing a lot of driving...
So, 20 months and already 31k miles... Lots of driving for me (although I know there's people out there who do more)! :4: |

In Florida, I have seen numerous cases where leather has cracked, absorbed oils from the skin or has acquired a craggy appearance. This is mainly in vehicles 5 years and older though. My 15 year old Nissan p/u has cloth seats in near excellent condition and I seriously doubt leather would have lasted as well.
However, I have had no children or pets romping on them either. |

That's pretty obviously people who don't maintain their leather interiors.
Here's a product line that'll fix a lot of those issues, after the fact, but is a lot more effective used ad a normal part of maintenance.

IMO, leather, properly cared for, will far out last cloth. (We're talking 10+ years and hundreds of thousands of miles.) |

I enjoy being static shocked, it's like a free fire works display, thats why I took the cloth!
Actually I was on a car budget being that I had just bought the Altima a year and half before the MO. I did like and would have the leather if I could have anted up the dough at the time.

| Leather is leather no matter how you look at it. Leather is unique and thats what make a car unique. I had to redo my seats (long story) so i had chance to pick my own material. Its almost same as oem but more puffed up. |

Was the process fairly easy to have done, and how long were you out of a car while the seats were being redone?? |

up here in the great white north I'm guessing that we dont have as many options available at purchase... either you buy the SE (awd with leather), or the SL (fwd, no leather). I couldn't justify spending the extra $$ for the SE, since I really don't have much need for the AWD, but I DID want the leather, the dealer arranged to have it done for us, and it was done before we took delivery of the MO(seems to me took less than a week)
I can take some photos if you like... but where would I post them? |

There is a gallery here on the Nissanmurano.org. You can take pictures, store them on your hard drive and then upload to the gallery, or you can include them in your post by using the attach file at the bottom of this box. You can see the "attach file" while you are in the text box typing out your post. This thread may be of some help if you will be posting pictures:

Hey, that's a fabulous idea!!!
I'd love to see the pics as well, and would like to know how they dealt with the side impact air bags that come out of the seat.
Sure would suck, if the new covers stopped them from working properly in an accident.

I already posted the new Air bag in a belt for Commercial Airliners, It's being put in on all Air Bus Planes. Virgin airlines is already flying into the USA with it. I didn't get much in the way of and the site doesn't support movies so I had to put in a couple of stills. Their is not really anyway to show you a 2000 to 5000 frames per second movie on the INTERNET.
I'll find you a link and post it. Here
http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/...ight=inflatable
It is also planned for rear passengers in locations where there is no Shoulder belt, we have already tested it in school busses, which as you know in the USA don't have shoulder belts.
And for our Canadian friends
http://www.micro-sys.com/news/tmworld_article.htm
This is the best I can do. It is an animation of what I Called the Cluster bag. As it can deploy over the instrument cluster.

| When I was buying my MO I had a choice of factory leather vs custom leather. I opted for OEM thinking it was going to be softer and better looking. Now I think custom leather would have perhaps been a better choice as it looks like it might hold up better to use and abuse. |

I like the perforated leather, and I wished Nissan did that on the Murano. The leather seats are very plain looking in the MO. First time I looked in a leather equipped MO, I didn't like it. It was a black one, so I think all the expanse of black and charcoal was a bit much. Next one will be copper with the leather, I suspect. Always liked orange and black. Same colours as my favourite motorcycle.
Yes, the charcoal shows the dust. First thing I thought was, good, I'm not the only one that needs to dust the interior!!!
Little bit warmer, and the whole thing will get cleaned inside. |

My last several cars all had leather interiors. I told myself I would never buy/lease another car/truck unless it too had leather.
Unfortunately, you cannot get leather on the MO unless you also opt for the sunroof package. The inclusion of the sunroof reduces headroom by 1 1/2". I am 6'3" tall and need all the headroom I can get.
If Nissan was more flexible in it's offerings I am sure more (tall) people would have opted for the leather.
I miss the days when you could walk into a dealership, check off the appropriate boxes on the order form, and have a "customized" car delivered to the dealer in a month or so. I know the logistics involved with importing cars require streamlined option packages, but it would have been nice to get leather without the sunroof.
Oh well... :(

They made leather standard for the SE? I remember when buying my SE in June 2003, Nissan makes you buy both the leather and bose package to get VDC, which was the only option I had to have. So I ended up with a more fully loaded Murano than I had originally envisioned. |

Don't remember for the 03, but with the 04 and 05 you could get the sunroof package with cloth seats. HOWEVER, I think there were VERY few of them made that way. Nissan figured that if you wanted a sunroof, then you wanted a fully-loaded MO. I had to factory order mine in order to get the sunroof with cloth seats.
So I'm assuming that the OPTIONS were available that way, there just wasn't one AVAILABLE at the time you wanted it.
(if you've seen my other posts, you'd know that this was a big pet peeve of mine. I wanted VDC and Backup Camera on my 05, but needed to upgrade to leather for those options, even on a factory order. Idiots.) |

I went to the dealership to test drive a new Xterra, HATED the seats, flat, plastic, my butt slid all over the place when making sharp turns, stopping and starting. If you're think of getting one, include in the price what it would cost to replace them! A true SUV with flat seats, what were they thinking!
Everytime I'd walked from the dealership office to where the Xterras were parked I kept passing the used Muranos...
While waiting for the salesman to come back with yet another set of keys I jumped in a Mo with heated leather seats.
Salesman came back and told him to forget about the Xterra, and get some keys for the other muranos with leather seating....
I did look at the others with cloth seats, and I'm sure the dealership cleaned then ... they looked beat up, worn out and stained. Looked like the owner has a bunch of very small children that were aloud to eat in the car! Yeah THAT bad!
ALL of the mos with leather seats had no sign of any use, NONE!
Yeah I know, come this summer I'm going to pay, but it only takes a sec to throw a beach towel over them :D ... not a big fan of burning all the skin off the back of my legs.
THAN again, I have a remote starter installed (my first mod before I joined this site, otherwise I would have taken a bunch of photos! I could just start my mo from remote with the AC running 5 minutes before I going anywhere!
I would not have picked a murano if it wasn't for the leather seats. |

We had to go with leather for some of the reasons already stated - easier to keep clean, VDC, etc...

We had only two choices in Dec. of 02: either an SL or our SE. Both had leather and we needed AWD for our hill and ocassional snow, so we got the "refer white" SE. Leather is easy to maintain.
Our last new car was an 01 Suby Outback Wagon. Had cloth and looked cheap. It was a real lemon and we lost alot of money on it.:3:
We were recently looking at a new WRX wagon. Looks alot nicer in leather than in cloth. A much more "finished" appearance.
The STi has those Ricardo seats and looks better than the WRX cloth interior.
Our 03 Civic Si came in only cloth and looks pretty good (typical Honda fit and finish) but the upholstery holds dirt easily and needs cleaning much more often than MO. Darrell. |

clearence for me but I dont set the backrest of the seat at 90 degrees,at 90 degrees I have about 2 inches clearence and I also have some seat cushions that bring me higher but even with 2 or 3 inches of headroom still comfortable enough,no need of more headroom. |

Same here. I had cloth in the Xterra and wanted to go total luxury from completely barren. I picked every available option on an 03 SL AWD, and nav required VDC back then which, as you say, required leather. Not to mention I wanted the heated memory seats, so leather it is. |

| Cloth for me. Not too hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter. Temperature is always right for the butt and back!!! |

| Leather, no doubt that leather makes your ride look/feel much more luxurious. |

Definitely LEATHER!! I have had high end cloth (on a 92 Chevy Astrovan) and medium-high end leather (on my DreamCruiser). Leather is the "bees knees".
Hubby's Pacifica has cloth. Once you are in place on the seat, that is where your pant's stay no matter where you go. :12:
Leather is easy to keep clean. It is easy to slide in and out of the car.

Not if your butt is hot already. I have leather seats in my Cruiser. Also have seat warmers. I had them take out the fuse that warmed the driver's seat. When it came on accidentally it always made me feel like I wet my pants. Ewwww. |

| I wanted the vehicle and took what was inside...cloth. I have had both leather and cloth in my previous autos, and find them equally attractive. I was really looking for a black MO with a dark interior (black, grey, etc). But after seeing the Majestic Blue w Cafe Latte interior, I was sold. It was previously stated about the MO's leather being abit plain. I'd have to agree to a certain extent, especially after seeing the Infinity's leather. ;) |

| Leather... just easier to clean and maintain plus its more "classy" anyway. People like the look and smell of an all leather car plus it's more comfortable. |

I agree 100%. The cloth interior, especially the black , is quite nice but if you can afford the leather I think you will be happy with it. |
