Picture of Wood option on '05 MO? - Click HERE for Original Thread
shappy0869
There is a $100 factory option that replaces the metallic dash accents with rear wood ones, but I have not been able to find any pictures of this option. I am curious to see the color and grain. The dealer didn't have any info and a call to Nissan customer service didn't help either. Anyone have pictures of this option or have it on their MO? Thanks!
SgtRich
I placed a factory order for a 2005 MO with that option back on 15 December and am still waiting for delivery. I strongly suspect that the wood trim option is the reason for the delay. When I ordered, I was told to expect delivery in *about* 8 weeks but that, due to a steel shortage in Japan, it may be a week or two longer. 9 February was 8 weeks, so...

When it comes in, I'll post pix!
shappy0869
I know that it lists "late availability" for that option. I look forward to seeing it when it comes in. Thanks!
revhigh
Just saw one with the wood at my dealer 2 days ago. I didn't think I'd like it but I must admit I did. I started looking for dash kits oni the net to accomplish it.

It's a medium brown color. I couldn't really call it a wood color that I've seen anywhere. The car I saw was a Glacier Pearl with the tan interior. It looked real sharp,

Yes, take pictures, but just be sure it is not a dealer installed aftermarket kit.

SgtRich....you ordered exactly what I am considering ordering....will be eager to here about your when you take delivery. Especially want to hear how the wood grain looks....hope you get it soon
:)
SgtRich
Thanks, jayjay.

Yesterday, while checking on the status of my MO, I was given the VIN and told (finally!) that I will be taking delivery either the last week of March or the first week of April.

He just said there were delays at the factory, so I don't know if it was the wood-tone option ("late availability") or the steel shortage in Japan or what...I just can't wait till I get it!

Saw one of the dlr inst kits on the showroom flr. Looked pretty good, but $400 good!! Saw some kits on E-bay for about $150. Anyone had any experience with these?

There are a few kits like that for sale on ebay...
SgtRich
Are you saying that dealers are charging $400 for the after-market wood-tone trim option installation??? Yikes!

Ordering the wood-tone option on my factory order only cost $86.
gordieo
SgtRich,
Yeah, $400! They claim the kit costs $200 and charge a couple hours to install. I'm thinking of doing it myself if I can get a response from anyone who has installed one themselves. I liked the one I saw and was going to order one but apparantly there is a shortage of steel in Japan right now and I didn't want to wait 2 mos. to get it in. So, I opted for one that was close to what I wanted. Had to get it from a dealer 50 mi. away. The local dealers didn't have much on the ground.
zebelkhan
I doubt it if dealers install these themselves. These are usually installed by an independent installer who comes to the dealership just for these jobs and they usually provide the aftermarket parts themselves too. Ask the dealer to see if they are willing to share the name and number of the installer they use and contact them directly.

Hi... I'm new to this site... I'm looking to buy my very own Murano this week... so I've been doing my research. I hope this helps you guys out with your request to see pictures.

SgtRich
TheGymKid,

Do you know if that is the actual Nissan installed wood-tone trim option or if it's a dealer installed after-market option?

Revhigh had said that the factory option was medium colored wood trim and your picture makes the wood look pretty dark.
shappy0869
That kit definitely looks aftermarket. I don't know of any factory wood option on any car that surrounds the ventilation registers in that way. Looks pretty tacky IMO.
TheGymKid
It looks after market to me for sure. That site actually had about a dozen different colors of wood trim to pick from. I don't like the way it looks... I actually am really impressed with the titianum look the Murano comes in personally. I think it is really sharp looking. To each his / her own though. I was just posting a picture because some people were asking to see the looks.

Hopefully this evening... I make my purchase and drive away in a new Murano.

Gymkid,

That is a aftermarket install. I just saw the factory installed option and the factory option only has wood on the center console. No wood on door or around gages on dash.....

Where did you see the factory option? Pictures? Please??????
revhigh
Sorry I can't get you pics, but the wood I saw was factory, it had it right on the sticker, from what I recall it was only $100, and it looked real nice, not tacky at all.

If I get down there I'll take a few pics if they still have it.

Which dealer was it at? Thanks!

I purchased a 05 murano over the weekend with the factory wood trim. I will try and get some pictures of it tonight. I'm really pleased with the trim as it was a nice change coming out of a 2003 Murano.

Can't wait to see the pictures!

No, you're probably right in general, but there are Nissan dealers that sell on EBAY. Plus you can get an idea of what it might look like by clicking on the Sellers site. They usually have lots of pics. Just trying to help!
zebelkhan
I guess I have seen too many of these on e-bay. I am hoping the OEM one is going to be a bit more decent!
grfg8r
EEE GADS THAT"S FUGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ones I saw were of a Light, Natural Burlwood that matched up real nice.

I just talked to a friend of mind who used to work @ the dealership here and he said all "they" do is take it over to this aftermarket shop a block away and have it added.
hfelknor
Factory means just that.
It should be listed on the Original Equipment list. (NOT an "extended" list)
(What is that list called? the Maroney? Or something like that?
 )

Also I am not convinced that anybody really "knows" exactly what you get.
Do you get some contact paper?
Or is it Faux wood glued on the Metal?
Real wood glued on?
Or is it wood that takes the place of the metal?

I know we all have opinions, but does anybody actually Know?

That wood trim kit is OVERKILL. I agree fugly fugly fugly.

I would think that the wood trim option would be much more subtle, like what Infiniti has for it's G35.
Hossley
in a word...YUCK
zebelkhan
Does anyone have (or can find) a picture of the MO's interior with some decent (unfugly) wood work?
ZBoy
IMO this one looks fairly nice. The other one is a horrible color, with an overexposed shot and bad lighting. Plus, i think you can go too far with wood. Covering the stereo is unecessary. But my wife and I think a small kit, for the center console (cup holders) and the doors would be nice.

shappy0869
I just want to see the factory wood option...please!!!!
grfg8r
Does this looks to be it? Frm another post.

That does look better. I think the wood trim on the center divider (around the gear shifter) is nice... not sure about everything else, it doesn't look right to me.

Also the spedometer console (can't think of the right name) is designed to be sporty, wood trim is not right on it or on the steering wheel. Also, if you put wood trim on the steering wheel at least cover all of the aluminum, not just the front part. I'm gone griping.:D
shappy0869
Anyone have actual pictures yet???
mgthe3
Yes, I agree, it would HAVE to be genuine wood in place of the trim, not glued over it. I have seen real wood kits, they cost a mint and....glued over the factory trim. I thought about doing real wood but decided that for now, I will be happy with brushed aluminum.

and

we do need the pics from the owner who purchased the factory wood.....

OMG...What happened to the interior of that MO posted by zebelkhan.. That is FUGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a private message, I was asked several questions regarding the wood tone trim option that is offered on the Murano. I thought that, even though I answered the private message, I would post the answers for everyone's benefit.

The wood tone trim is used *instead of* the aluminum trim. It is NOT applied on top of said aluminum trim. Hopefully, this can be seen in the pix that I posted in my Gallery.

The wood tone trim is ONLY applied to the top of the center console and the front of the center dash pod, as shown in the pix that I posted. There is no other place where wood tone trim is applied, such as on inside of doors, seat backs or anywhere else.

I hope that between this info and the pix, people's questions regarding the wood tone trim option are answered. If not, please feel free to ask any other questions regarding this option.

Time to go to the garage to look at my new MO again!:2:
Ferio
The Muranos in Japan offer a wood trim dealer option. You can have the trim on the center console (22,995 yen), steering wheel (2 options 62,055 or 55,755 yen) and door panels (24,255 yen) where the window switches are.
This is not an option offered by the maker, but by the dealer. It is shown in a seperate catalog that comes in the sales brochure.
The wood trim steering wheel offer the same switch arrangement minus the cruise control. For a really ridiculous reason cruise control in Japan is not useful. The maximum speed allowed to be set on a domestic cruise control is about 100kph. Since we routinely drive at 120kph and higher (even in 80kph highway zones) it is considered to be a useless option and many of the Nissan and other domestic makers don't offer it across the line. This restriction does not apply to imports.
(Divide by 100 to get approximate US dollar costs.)

While this is an aftermarket kit I installed myself, I thought anyone wanting to see pics would at least have something to compare. It is real wood trim, very good quality and easy to install. I think wood trim is a personal taste issue, like seeing my girlfriend with long hair or short hair, form-fitting lycra top, or big, fashion "poncho". I respect forum members to not like how it looks, I just don't need to hear it and they won't have to ride in my MO.
Here's where I found the kit -

Ferio,

I find it interesting that Nissan offers different wood options in Japan than in the USA.

Thanks for posting the pic!
zebelkhan
Nice job! Good choice of wood trim color too....:)

Edit: Does the aluminum show from under the trim or does it all get coverd? I can't tell from the pictures.

zebelkhan - thanks for the props.
On the center console, around the radio controls etc, and the shift console nothing shows around the edges. Good coverage.
The steering wheel and instrument cluster have an aluminum ring that goes around the edge. Actually looks good, to me.
I chose not to use every piece in the wood dash kit, but rather only the areas I thought it looked best. Sometimes, less is better. If you would like close up pics, I will be glad to provide, just let me know.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like the way the wood trim looks. I especially like the color/wood type you picked out. Is that Burlwood?
kingsize
Opinions are like armpits...everyone's got one, or two - I've seen people use the aluminum block plate kits, bright color dash kits - as long as they are happy driving it. :p
On this site;
http://www.wooddashfactory.com/page...m?partno=wd495A
I chose the real wood, dark burlwood dash kit. They have a good pic of an installed kit there, but it is the medium burlwood color. But you get to see all the pieces they include in a kit, which I said earlier I have not used all of them.
It was so easy to install, no regrets here.
Good luck with your MO -
pcs15394
Kingsize, I like the color Burlwood you picked out and I especially like the minimalistic approach you took to the install. I checked out the link you supplied and the install they show on their web site just looks like overkill as far as I'm concerned. Your's looks classy and understated. If I was to do this addition I would definitely take your approach rather than the one on their website.
nissanlove
i wonder what an ebony wood would look like in a cabarnete or cafe latte interior
grfg8r
Did you consider one of the "Light" wood colors? I think some call it "Platinum" Burlwood. I have same interior and was kicking it around for a while till the BOSS said ..!
