Hi there Special K!

It is great to see another Nevadan here! I totally love my Mo! I have only had it just over a week and still cannot believe what a wonderful ride it is....especially on my commute to South Meadows!

How long have you had yours? Did you buy it at Streeter? Any tips for dealing with the service department (for when the time comes)?

Hi Beth, all I can say about Streeter (aka Reno Nissan), without being TOO offensive -- is "Good F-ing luck."

I bought my MO through carsdirect.com after Reno Nissan was totally unwilling to make a reasonable deal with me. I really *hate* car dealerships, and the minute they start playing the "well let me go talk to my manager" game and making ridiculous offers, I leave. I will never buy anything from them. I picked my MO up from McKevitt Nissan in Berkeley CA. I've been to Reno Nissan a couple times for service and am totally unimpressed with thier [lack of] commitment to making the customer happy. I sure hope you have better luck than I do with those guys. Too bad they're the only Nissan place around.

What is your profession? I work at UNR and am looking at moving elsewhere. :)

Nice to "meet" you.

Sorry for being off topic, but I gotta give my props for McKevitt Nissan in Berkeley. Thats where I purchased my Murano too. They were excellent. Its a smallish dealership but I was treated well, without any of the typical dealership tricks.

Since I went through carsdirect.com my only interaction with McKevitt was 30 minutes long. I had made an appointment to pick up the MO and when I got there, they had all the paperwork prepared and ready to go. I signed and drove away. I was very impressed that they didn't try to sell me "add-ons" or extras, in fact, I had to ASK them to sell me the extended warranty. I was quite happy with McKevitt, until the major drama that I had to go through because they forgot to file some paperwork properly for my purchase. I had to make NUMEROUS trips to the local DMV, each time playing middle-man between Nevada DMV and McKevitt. I was *NOT* pleased with that. Nissan didn't even know I had purchased the MO until almost 2 full months had passed from the day I picked it up. Everything is OK now, but I was quite peaved at McKevitt for putting me in a positon where I had to do all the footwork and work everything out.

GRRRR. :3:

Same thing happened to me. McKevitt put the wrong address on my DMV info. I didn't get plates for over 6 months. However, I attribute that more to the incompetent back office at McKevitt than the salespeople.

Actually, my sales experience with them was pretty good. I got the initial pricing over the phone and went in to test drive the next day. They even let me take one home so my husband could check out without getting a copy of my license etc. I was clear that I was not buying that day, but I wanted to get an idea of pricing for the Mo as well as my trade-in (Wrangler).

He was busy with another customer when I brought the car back so I went home. He called later & we didn't most of the deal over the phone. There was a little slippage on the Wrangler when I went in the next day, but I still consider it a fair deal based on my research and the problems that the Wrangler had...

They didn't try to sell me any extras and I was out of there in less than two hours. He did a great run through on the car & showed me every bell & whistle. The only thing I felt a little weird about was when he went over the Nissan survey and was telling me how it was all about him, even though the survey specifically talks about other areas. He has promised me another free oil change if I bring the survey back to him to mail (to prove I did it)... Needless to say, although I am happy with the buying experience, I am not comfortable with that so I won't be stopping in to drop the survey. I think I can manage the cost of my own oil change ;)

I work in the IT department at a sales training company in the South Meadows area (can email the name to you privately if you like). Like you, I am looking for another job. Unfortunately, things are just slow in the IT arena right now. What kind of work are you looking for?

It is nice meeting you as well. Good luck with the job search :)

To prove you completed the survey? Or so he could change all of the responses to "Excellent" before he submitted it to Nissan. Call me a cynic.

The same thought actually crossed my mind as well... That is why I will be mailing it on my own.

LOL!

IT, of course! :) I'm currently Network Security Administrator for UNR. It sounds like it should be a lot more prestigious than it is. I'm frankly just fed up with doing 85% of the work and getting 15% of the credit. In the state system, incompetance is rewarded. It really kills one's motivation when the least useful people are the ones that get promotions and raises. I think it's time to try private sector life.. I've been in the state system for years because I love the stability. I think it's time to make something happen for myself though.

Maybe we should get together for a mini MO owner's club since I haven't found any other Reno/Sparks MO owners on the board here. LOL What does your husband do? My fiancee is an Electrical Engineer with Arrow Electronics.

Hey, I grew up in Reno and I have a Murano. Does that count for anything? I am taking my family up to Reno over Easter. So, there's another member in your club there. :-)

You were smart -- you got out of here and stayed out! :) I left in '95 when I started college.

I didn't want to come back. But, last year, I did. Now I'm thinking another state might be just what I need. How's SD? I also hear Oregon is nice! Maybe Arizona or New Mexico... :)

That is too funny! I wonder how many other computer geeks out there own a Murano?

I am the Help Desk Manager at this place. I have been here for five years. My last two jobs, I was the LAN Administrator, but took this job for the pay increase and the opportunity to learn new things from the others on the team. I was the "Lone Ranger" in my previous jobs and didn't have anyone I could bounce ideas off of or learn from.

We also have a Network Security/IT Manager. Being we have about 40 people locally, that is a lot of IT staff for the size of organization we are. We also have a group of people that manages our websites and are not apart of our group. My frustration is that I work for a guy that has absolutely no work ethic and it drives me nuts. Although he is one of the most talented people I know (when it comes to technology), he is also the laziest person I know. This place is also famous for rewarding bad behavior, it isn't a state thing. I am also very bored with this job. I have gotten things cleaned up and running smoothly so there are no longer fires that need to be put out...if they happen it is rare. Too bad we don't have the same skill set, we could just trade jobs! ;)

What color is your Mo? I have the Sheer Silver with the Charcoal leather interior. I have not seen many around town...maybe three or four since I purchased mine.

My husband works at Creative Memories (scrap booking place) in Sparks. He manages the maintenance group as well as does their engineering. It is a great company to work for. I have heard the same about Arrow. I would love to have a sabbatical every seven years....

HA! I think it depends heavily on what department you work in at Arrow. I know my fiancee is quite unhappy with the way they are treated there, as are many of the other people in her dept. The big problem (that I see) is that there is no one local that holds the managers accountable for thier actions. The employees have no grievance path if the managers are being boneheads, which is all-too-often the case with her dept.

I've seen a few MOs around town, but not very many. I was in Las Vegas last weekend and they were everywhere! :) I have Silver with Charcoal CLOTH, no leather for me. I only wish I had gotten the sunroof. Meh.

I'll probably order a couple of the stickers so maybe other MO owners will see and check out the forum.

I do consulting and outsource work... if you know of any companies looking for contract-based IT support, I do it all. Small and medium-sized business are best as they usually don't have in-house IT. Let me know if you know anyone! :)

San Diego is very nice, and there is a lot of IT and high tech down here. I am currently an Operations Manager and a hardware Engineer before that, so I must stay in high tech large city hubs and San Diego is a good place for that.

Good thing about IT is more flexibility. You can work for a Biotech, Defense Contracting, Law Firm, University, etc.

Median home price is around 520k or so, and had I not bought a few years ago, I would be a permanent renter here. Oregon, Arizona and New Mexico all have reasonable housing and good high tech. I plan on moving to Salt Lake in the future.

That is too bad about Arrow. They used to have a pretty good rep way back when...

As far as the car, I actually saw one on the way home today...pretty unusual for me. I would have preferred the cloth seats, but leather is what they had and it was something I could live with. I do have the sunroof, which is great! I just wish that it opened "all" the way. I am not sure how to describe it, but it could open perhaps another three or four inches...

If I hear of anyone looking for a network/security guy, I will let you know.
