My username was uberbiker but now it displays as Überbiker!

What gives? Can it be changed back?
jaak
I've seen a few things get translated like this, messing them up.

I'll PM admin.
jaak
The admin's looking in to it. If anyone else spots these types of problems, pm me and I'll update him. The more we find, the easier it is to figure out what's going on. Or not going on...

ÜÜ See if these come through OK...

By any chance do you (uberbiker) use Mozilla Firefox?

Homer
Überbiker
Yes! I had to move to Firefox because the IE pop ups were killing me. Is that the problem?
Überbiker
Hmmmm, still doesn't display right with IE either!

I don't even pretend to understand what is going on.
But I know that FireFox lost it's virginity and has had it's first "virus".

You need to go to Mozilla and DL the "new" Firefox.
There is a sorta description of the peoblem at
http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2005/0225mozilwarns.html

I just remembered that somehow Firefox allowed the spoofing of some other sites andchanged the correct characters to these "foeign" characters.

I think that somehow, that is what happened.

Homer

Oh and BTW the "change" is universal. It look that way to everybody now regardless of the browser they are using.

BTW in your Firefox toolbar at the top
Select "Tools", then "Options". Scroll down about 2/3s and select "software Updates - Check NOw:

This is not just a firefox problem. To see if you are vulnerable go to the website below and take the test. http://secunia.com/multiple_browsers_idn_spoofing_test/

Do not assume that simply because you have updated to FF 1.0.1 the problem is solved - it wasn't on my system.

added: this problem is quite serious in that it allows foreign language sites to spoof sites such as paypal. Phishing
hfelknor
I took the test.
What was shown was NOT www.paypal.com

but was
http://www.xn--paypl-7ve.com/

So, in my opinion, that is not going to fool me.

I took the test and got a "The page cannot be displayed"
dklanecky1
Ditto, page can not be displayed. The address bar in IE did shopw paypal however. Interesting.
Überbiker
I ended up at http://www.xn--paypl-7ve.com/
also.
