The US market tends to have more powerful engines, and the current limitation is the CVT's durability with high torque engines. The Murano was the champ (245hp & 246lb/ft) for a while, but I think the new Lexus RX400h/Highlander hybrid has us beat (268hp).
GM has dropped the CVT from the Saturn lineup due to mass failures. But then, its GM..... |

jaak - Being an old timer, I thought you'd like to know I was talking to Enforcer today.
He doesn't get to this board much, he's busy with a mmorpg called Horizon's.
He did have has MO alternator go out a couple of months ago and he also still has his Z! |

Bummer on the alternator... If you talk to him again, say hi! I certainly miss him as he was a wealth of knowledge and really found some great information. His digging on the CVT was outstanding and anyone who's interested in the technical side of it should not miss Enforcer's website!
Glad to hear he's doing well and keeping busy...:D |

Or perhaps more accurately; "less smaller engined cars". Especially considering that most of the truly powerful cars which can also go around a corner (basic requirement for a car...) are not US originated....
First CVT was a DAF 600 Passenger car if I remember correctly, originating in the Netherlands...First on the market in 1958... |
