| It sound like its for keyhole which MO's dont have...and I wouldnt drill a hole in bumper either. |

i was just wondeiring,
cant you drill a hole in your license plate and then place the camera in that hole. i dont know how the license plate numbers are but here in saskatchewan its 3 digits then a gap of about 6 inches and then 3 numbers..... so i believe it would be legal to drill a hole in the license plate and mount camera in between there.
any other ideas ???
since i would be working on this project this summer |

Unit is 54 mm long, there is no way it can fit behind license plate, unless you raise out licence plate 2 in out and then it exposes rear of camera to elements.
I thing bumper or tail light lens is a possibilty.
Other question, on non nav Mo, what are the display options ? |
|
|

hmmm.... isnt there an opening in the back door which is wide enough to fit a 54 mm camera ? or 2 inches. i'll check to make sure the other end of the opening is behind the license plate.
the display option i was thinking of was a composite input monitor (since this camera already has composite output (yellow connection))
or
the solution that i thought of is a bit weired (out of fashion probably but would work perfect). get a wireless Webcam.... probably a D-link DCS-900W, a cheap wireless b or g router & a laptop (which i plan to mount for the dvd entertainment anyways) with wireless card.... and there you have it.... a complete reverse system.... the router can sit in the box which has accessories for the car lifting (in case of flat tire) and the signal strength would be enough to cover the whole car.... the laptop can fit into the center glove box once it isnt in use.....
i know it is a WEIRED solution but i just have a feeling it would work perfect. keeping my fingers crossed for the summer..... |

| A good solution for an LCD for the camera is to get a rearview mirror with an integrated screen. XoVision, Savv and Soundstream all make really nice ones for this purpose. The Soundstream and Savv mirrors are clear enough for additional video use. |

| Yes. Those mirrors are great and I almost got one but I also want to use the screen for GPS and aftermarket GPS software solutions (for PDA or laptop use) simply show too small on those sreens to be usable. |

zebelkhan,
How about a hole thats next to hitch opening? In your pic i meant. |
|
|
| zebelkhan |
| Cant' use that. That is for connecting the safety chain to when you are towing something. There are two of them, one on each side of the hitch. |
|

| I thought there would be some way to work around that.....maybe use somthing else for the chain.... |
|

Not quite sure about that. I don't tow often (actually never!) so I am not sure what the rules are.
Another place I have seen the camera mounted at (if you have tow hitch) is smack dead center on the receiver cap. I personally did not like that because in case of the rear end, even a very minor one, the camera would be the first to go. |

| I have a question... if you hook the camera part up to the back... where do you view the screen? Do you have a seperate screen or does the Mo come ready for you to hook it up to the screen that is there now? |

| If im not wrong 05 MO comes with rearview camera option which is installed right below rear hatch and once you shift it to "R" reverse it will show up on navigation screen. |

I don't have OEM navigation so I installed a 7 inch monitor (see my gallery) but digital is correct. If you already have the navigation, then you should be able to add the camera to your 05 |

| I believe the rear view camera is part of the technology package... camera & NAV. I did not get that package, so I assume my screen wont have the option to hook up the camera, right? If it does have that option, I'll purchase the camera and hook it up myself which would be cool. Anyone know if I have the ability to hook up my own camera to the 05 MO and use the screen that exists already? |

If you dont have Navigation than your screen will not show any type of images. All your screen capable is showing numbers, letters and some pre defined symbols. Sorry man but Navigation Screen does lot more than show you routes. You can use it for lot of stuff such as DVD, computer, rearview camera etc.....
Sorry you missed out on it... |

| Thanks for the update... it's no problem. I was barely able to get the touring package, so there is no way I could come up with another 2 grand for the technology package. I suppose I'll just have to live with what I have. : ) Which I am very happy with !! |

To be honest, I think we all want to have things just for the sake of having it, not necessarily because we need it. The camera for instance is nice to have (that is why I added it) but really not very usefull because for me the natural tendency is to turn around and look back when I am backing up. Plus, I have a very hard time judging distances with it when I am looking through the monitor. So it is not even useful for parking. I therefore say you are not missing anything! Navigation is also good to have, only if you go to new places all the time. If you don't, then anything aftermarket would do the job just as well at a fraction of the cost. My carputer based navigation system only gets turned on only when I want to show it off, and the Gramin 6220 just sits in its bag quietly saying you could have done something better with the one grand you spent on me.....:3: |
