Alright, let's talk F1 - Click HERE for Original Thread
MightyMo
Any other F1 fanatics out there besides Kris and I? Second round of qualifying is on SPEED in 20 minutes, and I'm sure those red cars Kris likes will be way way behind the Renault (Nissan) hardware :D.

How does that saying go? The parts falling off my Ferrari are of the finest hand crafted workmanship... :p
Kris
Let's not forget last 6 years...........it is the finish line that's count.

By the way - my corporation is sponsoring McLaren....... and I was forced to work on some equipment we developed for Williams.............

Hey, I do own MO and FX..........and I still support Ferrari.................and to be honest I do not care what you think...:22: I just love this red color...........I know I will never be able to afford it .........but who cares........it is Ferrari!!!!!

Go Tiffosi!!!!!!!!!

Ferrari the Champ!!!
:6:
goldmu
Go Renault!!!
Current Mo owner, former Renault one ;)
MightyMo
Wow, fantastic race!!! Word is that Alanso's in-car water bottle broke, which is why he almost passed out on the podium.

Also Bridgestone is claiming Barrichello picked up a piece of rubber from the track which stuck to his rear wing affecting downforce which is why he had to retire with bald rear tires. Um, yeah, right guys...admit it, Michelin owns you. :D
Kris
Yep, Ferrari need better tires...............but that will come……just give it time…..
dejongj
Best part is...Nissan UK has started the Murano campaign by...advertising during the TV broadcasts of the F1...I hate commercials, but now I am quite enjoying it :D
jaak
Finally F1's worth watching again. I was really getting sick of the MS show.
dejongj
Oh Jaak, you really have set the cat amongst the pigeons now :D
I think MS is great, it is not his fault that the rest are crap...There's been a great program on the BBC (British television) about the fastest of everything and no, it wasn't he's driving they tested. It was his ability to react to situations. They "proved" it is not pre-empting and being lucky, they proved he is just very quick....

My favourite is still Jos Verstappen. Not because he is a good driver, no he is crap and the teams keep on hiring him...Never won a thing in his life...He must have got some real dirt on people....
MightyMo
Aw, F1 was worth watching last year, as long as you could just accept someone in red standing on the top step of the podium and then enjoy watching 4 teams slug it out for 2nd place.

This year is certainly looking interesting though, 4 teams battling for podiums, neither of which is Ferrari or BAR! And where the heck did Red Bull Racing come from, holy cow did they make that repainted Jag fly...
MightyMo
While MS is a gifted driver without compare, he is not invinceable. When out in front of the pack he can turn laps like lightning and manage the pace of the race like no other, but he also tends to make stupid mistakes when he falls back amungst the mortal drivers and is under serious pressure. Take his slamming the door on Heidfeld in Australia, stupid stupid thing to do, and he really had to eat crow on that in the driver's meeting before the last race.
EdMPT
Any Senna fans? I really haven't folowed it lately. I miss F1. Anyone know what channel in the bay area broadcasts F1?
EdMPT
Speaking of MS, I saw an interview with him once, and he claims he could tell the difference if his lap times were off by like 2/100's of a second...
Kris
I’ve been following F1 for a while. And yes I was a fan of Senna (I was watching the race on TV when he was killed. Never going to forget it...), as well as Mansel and Prost. And yes, MS is good. Just look at the numbers. He has rewritten almost all the all time records……

Today I am impressed also with Raikkonen. He has a lot of potential, just needs more reliable car.
MightyMo
In the SF Bay Area on Comcast you need SPEED channel 408, should be available in most areas.
http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/
MightyMo
I digitized the race and threw it online for a friend of mine who missed it, grab it here if you are interested as well: F1 Malaysian GP

If you don't already have Bittorrent, best client I know of is here: Azureus

And lastly, word is Ferrari WILL push their F2005 car out for Bahrain just a week's time from now, this will prove to be a very interesting race...
Kris
Yes, Ferrari really needs to do something so I am not really surprised with 05 being introduced in Bahrain. They really have no other choice. I still think the tires are the bigger problem. But then who knows.

I can't wait for the next race. Pitty will be flying West that time......
EdMPT
Thanks Mighty Mo,

I think your lserver is down at the moment, I will try again later. I am in the process of moving down the road a bit and do not have digital cable yet. I have not followed F1 for a number of years, do they still race in Montreal, or anywhere else in North America?
MightyMo
Yup, just a lazy Saturday morning mucking with my home network & firewall :D . Try to connect to the BT tracker now, should work okay.
Kris
In Montreal and Indianapolis……
EdMPT
Nice, video is great thanks!

I went to a race in Montreal way back in the late 80's early 90's. I remeber the end of the race Nigel Mansell broke down on the last lap and ended up hitching a ride on the front of Senna's car to get back to the pits after the race was over...ahhh the good ole days. I miss the Senna, Prost, Mansell Rivalries.

Thanks Again Mighty!
jaak
That's funny, I don't remember seeing you at that race...

Got hit in the face by something, while walking along the the back straight during qualifying. It hit me in the cheek, and fell in my shirt pocket.

I thought, what the heck was that? It stung a little. So I reach into my pocket and pull out some little piece of metal, dry on one side, a little brown, almost oily on the other side and a bit of a curve to it.

Yeah, part of a turbo blade!

Have no idea who's car it was, didn't see it. But it was at least 80 feet away.

As far as MS goes, yes he's extremely talented (and arrogant) and while I wish him no ill, I stopped watching F1 for a while, 'cause I was just so sick of the MS show.

I know I'm just one of many, otherwise, they wouldn't change the rules (again) to make it more competitive.

I'm with you Jaak on that one. I think MS is talented but I stopped liking him we he tried taking Villeneuve out to get his championship crown. Not my kind of gentleman...
Kris
Common guys! What is wrong with Ferrari wining? I guess if it was Mc Larren or Williams nobody would say a word………..They tried to stop Ferrari for last 3 years. It seems that finally they are succeeding. Pity, you cannot bit them on the track you do it off the track……
EdMPT
Funny Jaak,

Our seats were at the end of the back straight. I still get goosebumps on my arms thinking about crossing the wooden bridge while the cars were passing underneath. The sound so loud, so sweet, especially the Ferrari's. There is nothing like the sound of a Ferrari formula one engine...

I still got that one on video! My wife was a big Mansell fan and got all his races on video....I'm working my way through digitising them and putting them on DVD....

I do like MS even though he is German ;) I don't think watching any sport on TV is good fun actually...I prefer to go to the races in real-life...I was lucky enough to be a big (huge) customer for CA and was taken to quite a few races across Europe.....
Kris
Hey Mighty,

who is going to win this weekend race. I bet not Renault!

You want to bet? Anybody for that matter?
MightyMo
Bet? No no no, I'm not a betting man, unless it's a totally unfair bet in my favor :D .

In think Ferrari will be on the pace finally and score a podium at least, but I doubt both cars will finish.

Renalt will be there to contest the win, with Toyota and McLaren in the thick of it as well.

As to who actually wins, it isn't going to be a blow out by anybody, it'll come down to pit strategy, tires, qualifying position, etc.

So why the black line through your little Ferrari picture hm? ;)

Oh, and for all you who miss F1 because you don't get SPEED Channel, this weekend it's actually being broadcast on CBS at 10AM PST, so go check it out.

2 reasons. ..........

Nothing wrong with Ferrari winning, but I'm more interested in watching races, not parades. MS has quite the attitude (which he is allowed to have, as he's extremely talented and skillful) but it gets tiring at times. The odd glimses of human nature when he's actually a gentleman, are nice and refreshing. His brother does a better job of that.

As much fun as it is to watch on the tube, it's still so much better to be there. Well, if you have good seats...
jaak
Now, Imola today, that was a race!:D
MightyMo
You aren't fooling, that was an amazing race, serious edge of the seat racing right down to the wire.:5:
Kris
Yes, it was a race! And we are BACK! Ferrari finally has the car and the tire.

The rest of the season will be very exciting. I cannot wait for the next race. Imagine Alonso in Spain…Spaniards will go crazy.!
jaak
Hmmm... Seems like the company that owns the company that makes our vehicle did well...

It had me wondering about engine discussions that may have taken place between Nissan and Renault.
Kris
I am not surprised that Renault is doing well. Look through history – they have a proven track record in F1 as well as in world rally. Simply, they know how to make racing cars. So does Ferrari.

I am surprised with Williams and McLarren. I was expecting much more from them.

Anyway, the F1 will be worth watching again once the Ferrari gets the act together. And based on the last weekend race they have done it already.
MightyMo
Woh, possible huge shake up! Check it out!

http://www.planet-f1.com/news/story_19323.shtml
MightyMo
Here's some more detailed information. Weird, if the car was over weight at all times, what's FIA's beef? I wonder if they are trying to 'redefine' the rules like they did with the tires back in 2002...

http://f1.racing-live.com/en/headli...425171007.shtml
Kris
It is sad that the races are in the courtooms instead of the race track. Then again, the rule is simple - more than 600kg. Plain and simple and easy to follow. I just canot believe that somebody would try to "bend" this rule. Stupidity or what......
MightyMo
Well, I wonder if it's the FIA goofing with the rules again. Remember the big tire issue? The rule was clearly that the tire's contact patch must be within a certain width as tested at the end of the race. Then mid season when Ferrari & Bridgestone were on the ropes they "clarified" the rule to mean the tire's contact patch must be within the maximum width at all times during the race, including under high G loads.

This smells the same way, the rule may say simply more than 600kg at the post race scrutineering, but now they are clarifying that it can't be less than 600 at any time during the race.

I swear, the FIA intentionally write rules vaugely so they can redefine that as suits their needs.
Kris
I guess you are right. Let's concentrate on racing and leave the s.......to the lawyers....

:)
Kris
So MightyMO,

who is going to win this weekend?;)
jaak
Mikey might even do it this time... We can always hope not! After all, some of the other guys need some more limelight!:D
MightyMo
I'm guessing it'll be largely similar to last race. Ferrari is going to loose a little pace, because it's not their home track and because they are running for the second time on their motor. Alanso OTOH is going to have a fresh motor, and the second race it'll have to run is Monaco which is easy on motors so they can eat up a lot of life getting HP for this circuit. Assuming neither cocks up their qualifying I think it'll be a battle to the wire again, should be a great race. :4:
Kris
Alonso is racing at his "home" circuit. Also it is his home crowd. Will he be cool enough? Or the Spanish "fever" will take over?

You are right it is going to be an interesting race. Oh, and McLarren looks good too....
Kris
So MightyMO, Monco time................

Who it is going to be?

Toyota? McLarren? R..............?
jaak
Skoda!:D
MightyMo
Everybody is pretty fast, and I predict whoever is first going through turn one will win, so qualifying is everything. That being said, considering the massive dissadvantage the Ferrari's have in qualifying this time (they don't run last as they didn't finish well last race), I think the win is up for grabs between McLaren & Renalt, maybe RedBull too as strange as that sounds (they have been smoking in practice, not bad at all).
Kris
I would put my money on Kimi. As long as his car is reliable. Anyway, it is going to be a very interesting race.
jaak
Nice waste of a car, Ralf.... Good thing he didn't waste himself as well!
MightyMo
Yeah, that crash was pretty darn painful to watch....So WTF was up with M. Schumacker's qualifying lap? Dang, I knew they wouldn't be in as good shape, but man...
MightyMo
Hey everybody, do the 25 question long survey and be a part of the future of F1:
http://www.fia-amd-survey2005.com
Kris
So Kimi again! He was awesome. I have to say he drove perfect race. And the McLarren looks very strong.

So much for the hypes of Monaco. Again we saw procession. And Alonso did not impressed me at all. Passed twice, cut chicane to get it back. Should have been penalized.

Ferrari seem to be strong again. MS fastest lap. If it wasn’t for the lost nose……..

Bridgestone finally showing good tires. Hopefully next race will prove it.

Williams is getting better too. Oh and BAR/Honda is back in the next race. The season is just starting. Pity Ferrari will not win championship but nothing is over yet.

And Alonso better watch out, Kimi is coming!
jaak

Actually, it's good for F1 if they don't...
MightyMo
This past weekend's race was positively FANTASTIC! If anybody wants me to digitize it and throw it online let me know, because seriously, this was easily THE best race of the year so far.

OTOH, seems honestly now like the driver's Championship is over, and all that's left is all the other drivers to fight over second place.
jaak
Just the last two laps, is something to watch... Oh and throw in the start for fun.
Kris
So we are going to have race again. Who is going to be this time? Ferrari?:D
jaak
I'm hoping they'll do better, just to keep it exciting.

Haven't seen saturday's yet, was busy yesterday watching 300 mph Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters. Too Cool... Believe it or not, first Drag Race for jaak. If you've never seen it, you should. I was right at the line. Chest pounding noise, eye burning nitrous, huge exhaust flames and blindingly fast. (And I've always preferred cars that could corner, but it's an experience.)

Have to go take a look. I love Windows Media Center!
MightyMo
Comcast sucks! My cable is out and the race starts in 32 minutes!!!! :banghead: :cursin: :1zhelp: :behead: :twak: :soapbox:
jaak
Well, I could provide an FTP link if you want download it as a few gig file....
MightyMo
Sure, few gigs wouldn't take terribly long :D
jaak
Almost 7 gig and in dvr-ms format for Windows Media Center Edition.

You want to try it, I'll set up an FTP for you... I remember a 600 Meg file taking half a day once...
MightyMo
How fast is your connection? I can do 3MB/s. You could also always run it through Windows Media Encoder and trim it down to something a little more sane... ;)
jaak
My downloads as fast as yours, if not quicker, but I'd have to see what my upload speed is....

I think encoding it to something not so huge, would be a very good idea.. Let me see what I can make it.

The large file I mentioned was FTP'd to Oregon, so it wasn't the optimum path!
Kris
So it really was a good race! And finally Ferraris are getting better.

Shame for Renault. But than again, speed is not everything. Reliability is equaly important.

Montoya - will this guy ever learn?

Next Indianapolis. Just cannot wait.
jaak
OK, converted to an Mpeg, but it's still huge, so I'll see what I can do to shrink it...
Kris
Just got my itinerary for next week………leaving country on Sunday midday………….hrrrrrrr………so much for watching Indianapolis………and I could have had free ticket!

I guess trusty old VCR will have to suffice…..
jaak

VCR... Hmm.... I remember those.

I need to run another copy, but I did make a PDA happy version, and it came out to around 240 meg. Can't make out the screen text, but it's the race.... MM let me know if you want to try it.

Imagine, watching the race with a headset on your PDA!
jaak
Now this weekend sucked... Talk about politics in racing. (Oh, and Michelin really messed up and they certainly didn't make allowances for it.) But it's the fans that suffered the most.
Phil-KSA
What a complete debacle. The whole issue is one of business not sport!

A complete waste of time, feel for the fans
hfelknor
Think about the fans that came all the way from California to watch the US Grand Prix..........in fact, think about the fans that came from aisia, europe, SA............

Sorry to say that F1 is done here.
Cooked.
Stick a fork in it.

And it may be done anyway...........

Seems they had a meeting in January and the same teams that didn't run at Indy, boycotted that meeting.......

Seems there is going to be another meeting where FI may fine the teams..........I don't think that will fly...........

I thought Europe was always "superior" in these matters?
They always say they are.................

What a shame.

Homer
Phil-KSA
Apparently, the contact is up in 2008 and 5 teams have had meetings to put together they own racing championship. Looks like Bernie Ecclestone is facing big problems!

Anyway, at least England trashed the Aussie in the latest one day Cricket!:D
Kris

That's nothing...........Aussies lost to Bangladesh! And that is something................I guess they needed it to wake up.......
Kris
Back to F1. I was very angry as my company scheduled my flight to SA on Sunday so I missed the race. However, after arriving in Montoya country my disappointment was over. It would have been lost time watching this race. I cannot believe what happened. There were reports that most of the drivers wanted to race but were bound by their contracts.

I believe that Michelin and the teams who withdrew should compensate funs and this year tickets should be valid for next year race. And this is a minimum what should happen.

It wasn’t a race, it was a farce. I have been watching F1 races since 70’s and never thought something like this would happen. Complete disrespect for funs. It will take some doing to repair the damage. Let’s hope some will learn form that. Or will they…….
jaak
Mikey didn't look too happy today... Time to go golfing.
Kris
There is always next year.......
jaak
Yeah, it's going to be interesting! This year really wasn't fair to Michael. It's a shame to see him have such a bad year, 'cause we all know he's better. But Ferrari didn't seem to get their stuff together either.

Good to see Renault do well. Hopefully it will fall through to Nissan!
MightyMo
I must say, while I'm delighted Renalt won, the season was full of boring races where all passing was done in the pits. Next year I'll probably watch MotoGP and touring/GT car racing and skip F1, no downforce makes for fantastic nose-to-tail races.
Kris
Quickest car/driver combination - Kimi & McLarren
Best overall combination - Alonso & Renault (RELIABILITY!!!!)

Yes, I agree passing is almost non-existent, though last Japan race was something......they really need to do something about the possibilities of overtaking otherwise I will switch to touring cars......Super V8 are great in Aussie.

I just wish Ferrari got their act together.......
MightyMo
I heard a rumor that next year they would go back to slick tires, tire changes, and remove %90 of the downforce. That would be a fantastic change, but I won't get my hopes up until that day comes.
jaak
Yeah, I heard that too...

They realise that the fans will drift off, if the racing isn't good.

What the heck was with that track in China? It seemed traction was a bit of an issue, but they had lots of room. If only they could have passed...
MightyMo
The track was built on a marsh and is having 'settling' issues, just like the Interlagos track in Brazil. The place that the bumps are the worst are at the end of the back straight away, which is the single best place to pass. Doh.
jaak
Ahh.... Looked like a nice track, if they can get it sorted out.

On a positive note, I was talking to a friend of my wife who's in Atlanta and he's sending me a couple of cool toys. Literally...

and the other one is a version of this but I don't know which:

Pretty cool...

If you like Kris, I can see if he has more.

That would be great!!:)
Kris
OK, is time again. The F1 is back.

MightyMO,

look at the starting grid! Somehow the red noses managed to be at front again!:D

So we are back in business!
MightyMo
Considering how Michael turned such a hugely fast lap early in the final round of qualifying that they are running very light on fuel. We shall see tomorrow moring :4:
Kris
So you were lucky........it was an interesting race. Ferrari does seem to be on pace again. But look put for Kimi! He is unbeliveable....

It is going to be an interesting season
MightyMo
Kimi, and BAR, and look at Williams/Cosworth setting the fastest lap of the race, damn! Next race is just 1 week away :2:

Did you see the Murano on lap 27 of the race? It looked like it was pulling up a service road to pick up a photographer who was chatting with Jack Villnuve (sp?!?) after his motor expired.
Kris
I did not see the Murano. I guess I was watching the race, answering email and planning my next trip at the same time! Next time I have to concentrate more on what is actually happening.

The Cosworth/Williams combination surprised me. It seems that so far we have Renault, McLarren and Ferrari – no real surprises here, though I did not think Ferrari would actually pull it off, with Honda and Williams not far behind. BMW and Toyota nowhere to be seen. Let’s wait two more races and we will see the true picture. But it is going to be an interesting year. That’s for sure.
jaak
Check out the new engine! It sounds awesome!!!!

http://www.randomzen.net/tests_laughter.phtml
Kris
It must be McLaren! Or Williams!:D :D :D :D
MightyMo
Hehehe...I'm pretty sure this is the origional source for that sound clip:

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/gti_vs_civic.php
Kris
Man! This is good! :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2:
jaak
I LMAO!!!

Hope you guys are keeping well! I still look at EVERY Murano I see!!!
Kris
MightyMO,

did you see Imola grid? :D :D :D
MightyMo
Yup, watching it right now while on my laptop. Just you wait, Alanso is heavy on fuel and Fisi in 11th can run any fuel strategy he wants, by the second half of the race tomorrow there will be a Renalt on the podium. :31:

Hey everybody! The race is on CBS tomorrow morning at 10! You don't need Speedchannel to see it! Check out what a V8 spinning at 19 thousand RPM sounds like! :4:
jaak
Ahhhh... The joys of a media center pc. It searches on a keyword and picks up every broadcast on every network...

Plus I can replay MS's crash over and over and over...:D
Alex
RED IS BACK!!!
jaak
Slovenia! Cool, my father-in-law is from there.
Alex
Good to hear that Jaak.
We are so close to Italy that I'm sure he's also a Ferrari fan.
jaak
Actually, being in Toronto, I'm in the highest density of Italians in a city, outside of Italy, anywhere in the world. Yes, more than New York, which surprises people. Half the people in my neighbourhood are Italian descent.

He was actually closer to Austria, but hey, it's not far. He can speak Italian, German, Slovenian, Hungarian and a bit of Russian. He left shortly after WW II and met his Croatia born German wife, here...

No doubt Ferrari and Schumi are a great team, but F1 sure was boring for a while, when it was the F&S parade. Good to see more activity this year.

I also like to see Finnish drivers win.
Kris
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! WE ARE THE CHEMPIONS!
