How good is K&N air filter? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Kris
I have installed K&N Air Filter in Murano 16 months and 24Kmiles ago. It was my first K&N filter ever. I based my decision on some of the board’s opinions and some web research. I checked this filter yesterday and:
1. Filter seems to be dry.
2. The visual inspection revealed the filter to be just “too clean”. Also area under or before the filter was too clean also.

I am having a second thought as to the filter capabilities to do its job. I believe that the filter should have much more evidence of doing its job, i.e. being more “dirty” and there should be more “dirt” in the chamber preceding the filter. Anyone out there with similar experience?

I am seriously considering switching back to OEM filters, as I do not know what happed to all the dirt I saw in the OEM filter only after 10k miles (I have not changed my driving habits not the driving conditions).

You should switch back to OEM filters.

They may have a lot more restriction, but in your case it is better.

One should never allow an oiled filter to go 16 mos between service intervals.
OR 24,000 miles.
That's a lot of air going thru that tends to dry out the oil after awhile.

I clean (Wash) and reoil mine every 12 mos or 12,000 miles.
In my case that is "usually" every 12 mos and about 10,000 miles.

If the oil drys out, there is effectivly NO filtering being done.
