I dunno, it looks like they just took a murano and put a silly looking front on it...

A buddy of mine has put down his deposit on one. Will be interesting to see what he thinks at delivery time. Too bad he lives in the Boston area, I live in Kansas thus I won't have a chance for a hands on impression.

I must say I don't care for the front end from the pictures I have seen.

The wrap around interior looks interesting. Reminds me of my '92 300ZX.

Good to have someone out there that can push on Nissan to continue to improve their line of vehicles.

honestly, at first i didn't like the front end of the tribeca but it's something that has to grow on you. the interior is beautiful almost meserati-ish(only look wise not quality wise0 i had a chance to look inside on of them in person. it was a seven seat with cloth. the cloth was nasty but the luggage room was huge.

Even with a 250hp engine, its only 3.0L and with 217lb/ft moving 4500lbs, it will be a dog. I have a feeling people will overlook the styling and it will be a hit, given that Subaru drivers tend to be very loyal.

supposedly it's suposed to be faster than a bwm x5 3.0

The X5 has even more pathetic specs, the 3.0L automatic makes only 225hp to move 4500lbs of SUV. BMW may update it with the new 3.0L unit from the 2006 330i, making 255hp.

the shiftronic should help put all that tourqe to the pavement when you want it. hopefully it aslo has a wide tourqe curve also because the max output is reached at 4500 rpm. they also have relased pricing for it. the cdn version starts at 41500cdn and goes all the way up to 53000 with the 7 passenger arrangement touchscreen dvd navigation and rear seat entertainment with 9 inch monitor.

I think the interior looks great! The first photo in the link made me intially think BMW styling. I agree with some that the grille needs to grow on your.

I was considering the Sccoby Doo Outback along with the Murano. But the lack of Nav definitely knocked it below the Mo.

I did see one in the streets on NYC (Manhattan). At first I couldn't firgure out what is was from behind. I kind of madeout the Scooby Doo logo on the back, but couldn't figure it out. Now I know.

It does look like a MO.. I posted a few months back with some spy-shots.. the Edmunds.com B9 Tribeca board is hopping, with everyone on it saying it's the greatest SUV since sliced bread. I am curious of how it performs tho.. but doubt it will give me reason to replace my MO.
Gonzo
I bet this thing flies and handles well.....

I wouldn't get rid of the MO but if I were in the market I would consider it along with the MO.
twelsh
what do you get when you cross a 1958 Edsel with a 2005 Nissan Murano?

(I kept staring at this picture and it finally dawned on me today what it reminded me of! They even copied the taillights!)

Gonzo
LOL you are right!
jaak
Reminds me of an Aztek with the ugly beaten out of it... Most of the way.:twak:

Still not as hideous as the Ugliment, er Element.

any idea what this thing is gonna sell for?

You can google the price. Around $30k for a base 5-passenger, $34k for a loaded 7-pass with nav.

They blew it as far as I am concerned:
1. 16.9 gallon gas tank
2. No HID headlights

You are right. The tank should be at least 20 gallons.

No HID's? Oops, that's a big omission! Once you try them there is no way going back. And car with price tag of $30k + they should be standard.
zpac
Yeah that is weird. Why is their such resistance in putting HID's in vehicles? The cost?
jaak
Yeah, just like LED taillights... They last longer, they come on faster to alert the driver behind you when you are braking, and they cost more.

Oh, and they take less room, as well as consume less power.

HID's will be obsoleted soon enough, I suppose, with LED headlights on the way. But in the meantime, they're still great!

you think so? From what I have heard LED's do not lend themselves to "spotlight" functions very well.
jaak
Hmmm... I'd be interested to hear about what you've heard... So far everything I've seen with LED's they're too focused and need optics to spread the light.

Just like HID's and incandescent are omnidirectional and need reflectors to get the light all travelling in the same direction.

The one thing that disturbs me about HID kits are the positioning of the light compared to the original bulbs. If it's not in the right spot, you end up hitting the reflector at the wrong angle and throwing light in the wrong places. (Including blinding oncoming drivers...)

Is there control on where the HID bulb is to ensure it's emitting from the right location? Or an adjustment? Or is it not that critical?

Enquiring minds want to know!:D

After all, there's not a lot of change in distance between high and low beams in the original bulb... If the retrofit HID is in the wrong spot, you could have permanent high beams.
Eric L.
Precisely the reason why a retrofit HID into a reflector assembly is generally a bad idea. Properly aimed projectors, OTOH, usually produce good results.

Tribeca's headlights ore projectors.

Quite a few people here in Oklahoma (Off to MO in the AM) think the Murano is ugly.
One guy said that the murano had it's azz so high that it gave his chevy an erection..............

Different strokes for different folks............

I kinda like the tribeca but I don't know if that grill will ever grow on me.
Had the same reservations about the Murano, now I don't even "see" the gaudy grill.

I guess what I understood about LED's is that their light was monochromatic and uniform, but didnt have much "throw". In that the light is focused, because the color's produced are of one wavelength and uniform (because a diode is creating the light rather than a focused head source like a normal bulb) but that the light wasn't intense enough for practical "spotlight" uses, like a headlight. I think the real LED strength comes in numbers and efficency. You can cram a bunch of LED's in a small area and maximize efficency, and they dont "burn" out.

But even with flashlights... I have an LED flashlight, it has like 30 LED's in it.... runs forever.... is waterproof, but has nowhere near the "spotlight" functions of my maglight. I think HID's which are the basic same theory as halogens (heat = light = inensity.. the more heat the better) is that it isn't as efficent, but heat puts out alot of wavelenghts that can be focused easily.

I also thought most OEM HID's had "auto leveling" systems that adjusted the angle of the reflector depending on the axis of the car... which was why some HID's seemed to "flicker"...

but I could just be pulling this out of my ass?!

Agreed! Saw one on the road this morning. What were they thinking?

I'm generally not a fan of Subaru's but this is interesting. The interior definitely looks better than a mo (subjective, I know) and the AWD system is probably much better than the Mo's.

I, too, think they missed the boat wit HID and gas tank size. It's also going to be a bit underpowered compared with other vehicles which is a big factor for most, including me. Oh, yeah, that grill is a total disaster IMO. I thought the Mo's was bad when it was first released, but with so many companies trying 'unique' grills, the Mo's looks more and more tame as time goes on.

That said I'll try to get a drive in one. I think this will be a serious Mo contenter for people who can get past the grill.
hasaanbhutta
well, here are the specs of the 2006 tribeca.
got them in the email today with an offer of $318 lease payment.

Like the look of the inside but not at all sure about the front! Sorry mistakingly put in as a new thread:o

Saw one in the flesh today at Costco. My wife thought the interior (front) looked cramped.
Note that it has Goodyear Eagle LS 255/55-18. Probably on 8" wheels. Another alternative for those who like the GY. It may be a year or two before they become available on the replacement market at reasonable prices though.
