Outside Temp Sensor - Click HERE for Original Thread

Is the ambient temperature gauge (outside temp) located somewhere near the grill? I just sprayed off three weeks of splattered bugs (road trip), and after starting back up, the outside temp display insisted it was 62. I know it's in the upper 80s here. I checked again after an hour and it still said 62. What's up?? Did I spray the sensor? If so, it must take a while to dry off.....

I wonder if it got some water/dirt in there?

Were you driving for that hour? The temp sensor is basically wrong if you aren't driving (in order to pass outside air over it, instead of air warmed by the engine). I get in my car and people see the temp gauge say something like 95F, and freak out. I always say wait until we've been driving for 15 minutes, then it'll show the right temperature.

I thought of that Tyler, but it's usually high, due to sitting in the sun or near a warm engine/vehicle, and drops down after moving to cool it off to ambient.

But this one's too cold.

This morning the outside temp gauge is working fine again. Must have been some cold water I shot into the sensor while washing it. Thanks for all the feedback.

Sounds like you nailed it. Takes a while to heat up water. Noticed that with my Hot Tub... If it rains a lot, the ground fault breaker trips as the motor gets wet. If I forget, it's too cold to use!

Really have to make a sheild for that thing.

I think it was a combination of two things: the cold water you sprayed on it, but also there seems to be a software bug where occasionally the temp will not update. Restart the car (reboot the car? this is getting way too common!) and the problem goes away.

I tried "rebooting" the car the evening of the problem. It didn't help. But patience did, and the next morning all was well.
