Did you debadge your MO? - Click HERE for Original Thread
KSmurano
I did, but I do it to all of my cars.
Makes waxing a little easier & I know what type of car I have.
hfelknor
I got out the hairdryer and took the dealer thingy off.
I always do.
I'm proud that it says Murano, and don't mind that it says SL.
Dif Stoke. Dif folk.

I didn't debadge mine, but Like Homer, if the dealer had put any dealer adv. on it, that would be gone in a second.. I'm happy to leave the fake plate on until I get my real plates, but once that's up, so is their free advertizing.

I actually went with a MO that had aftermarket gunmetal badging done to it.. I think it gives better contrast then the chrome on silver that is stock (given that I have a silver mo..)
Murano_MDX
hey tkris... post pics!

I don't mind having badges , however steel finish doesn't blend quite well with my blue MO - looks cheap. Might try some other finishes on computer first and then get it plated.

In the same breath , I hate the cheap plastic front grille. I am monitoring discussions on front grille closely and once ready , will change that first.

i wana pull my badging....

but, what o you do to remove the rubberized adhesive underneath the letters??

i need todo this soon, before it will damage the paint??
KSmurano
esemes - a little bug & tar remover works fine.
Mine left very little residue anyway since I did it the first week I bought it. ;)

esemes
well, the adhesive was so stinkin tough to get off, i just de-SL'd her for now....

guess i needta do em all soon, or live with them.......

any tips on the adhesive (tried bug and tar, but the stuff still took me at least 20 minutes)..... also, i had to strip, and carnuba the thing to eliminate the shadows left underneath (car is two weeks old)

devoid of all badgery.... (and some super-sore fingertips!!)

es - sorry about not getting back to you sooner, I've been away for a couple of days.
For future referrence there's a product called painters friend that also really breaks down the glue.
It sounds like you had a rough time.
What was the build date on your MO?

I must say I really like those clean rear ends!!!! :2: :2: :2:

HEY KS

(see my lame-o text sig.... born on date of 02/03)

also, there's a slight 'ghosting' effect from where the letters made contact with the finish.......

i have carnuba'd and polished the heck out of it........ slightly noticable to me, but , will it fade???
hfelknor
Well, i don't see any problem. Looks good to me.

But I will have to admit that my 6-03 born date and the fact that I only pulled the dealer fake chrome off that had only been on a couple of weeks, probably helped me.

Wild guess - are you from the Ocala area?

Homer
KSmurano
es - you shouldn't have any ghosting effects long term.
You've got to figure that the dealers don't wax there cars & it sounds like you'll be keeping yours waxed with a gleaming shine!

I guess your 7 month old glue had set up a little more than mine.
I purchased mine in middle March with a December build date.

If your looking for a good glue remover the product is called Goo Gone. It's available in Canada and I'm pretty sure I've seen it on the shelves in Home Depot in the US.

Another trick of the trade is to warm up the badge using your hair dryer. This will soften up the glue underneath the badge and allow it to come off easier. If your lucky it shouldn't't leave too much glue behind.

This trick also works great for removing those damn stickers.

Here's a few comparison pics of my MO before and after debadging.

esemes
another good trick (and i did the hairdryer bit) is to use dental floss, as a method of getting behind the numeral (or letter..) and pulling the badge off that way...

no matter what, its tedious work to remove all 11 (max) letters.....

the foam between the adhesive is the real ***** of the job, imo
KSmurano
I guess were just a sub group of the MO owners who like to"TAKE IF ALL OFF"
dklanecky1
I tried heating it up with the hairdryer. Tried goo gone. Both worked OK. Then I tried the left over bits of the Mother's Clay bar. The Clay bar works really well to get the glue residue off.

Pictures are in my gallery.

hey...don't laugh, but what is debadgeing? I;ve never heard of that before and don't know what it means...can someone plz tell me what it means...i feel so lost =(
KSmurano
hzo - it's when you take as many names &/or numbers off of the body of your fine lookin MO & let it speak for itself.
For example on my MO I took the "MURANO" on the left & "SL AWD" on the right side of the rear hatch.
At least they didn't clutter up the sides of the MO with some 3.5 badges.

That way you keep some people guessing, but you know what your driving. ;)

Plus it's easier to clean, the wax doesn't build up in the corners of "SL AWD" :D
hfelknor
and then some people "rebadge" their ride.

They can stop by the Dodge store and pick up a V10 emblem.........

Debadged the rear end. Even the Nissan badge.
I also removed or covered most of the interior badges or labels.
Like the clean smooth look:D

Just finished taking of the Murano and SL awd. Took a while to get the tape residue off and made a few fine scratches:(
How was the Nissan badge to take off. Is it just taped on? Are there any pins that go into the body?

MY exact thinking........

i think its just taped on.....but im chicken to find out on my own...........

anyone care to share??
Enforcer
Inspector will have to answer for the MO, but the rear badge on the Z had a knob with a hole in the hatch lid and the front badge had a hole with a knob molded into the bumper. Was thinking of putting these on the MO but was wondering the same thing.
esemes
i wanna switch to deese

Enforcer
One thing to keep in mind, the badges on the Z and the MO are different sizes.
esemes
thanks E--

i emailed reen to see if he was makin any CF inlays for the MO..... or if he knew if i could jus do the ole hairdryer and dental floss trick to mine..... and install the Z's....

are the Zees smaller???
Enforcer
MO: 3.950" 100.33mm
Z: 3.567" 90.61mm
esemes
oooooohhhhhhhhhhh

i LOVE that level of accuracy!! AWESOME!!!! :29:

now, on the flipside..... is the emblem jus 'stuck' on with the 2sided foamtape?? (as the other letters)

The rear Nissan badge is attached with the same gummy material as the other badges. There are no pins on the back side.

I used 6 lb fishing line to saw through the adhesive. The gummy adhesive can be removed with your fingers then finish with Goo Gone.

The Nissan badge takes longer to remove because of it's larger size.

Inspector - could you post a pic? I wanted to see how it looks since the tailgate has a 1/2 circle just for that badge?
jbar
Now that I've debadged my MO how do I change my reply to the POLL? "Yes" should now read at least 6!

Your vote has been changed.

Not gonna de-badge, but I will remove my dealer sticker. Eventually.

It was due to come off the first time it was into my detailer, but they forgot about it. Next time, next time...
asjbcarter
I told the dealer that I would be happy to drive around town with his name on my MO. I would only charge him $20 bucks a month.
No badge!
The only badge people like on their cars in Denver is the one that says JOHN ELWAY.
rainbowfarm
My dealer gave me a free professional debadging.

Well, effectively they did. It was an accident. The tailgate needed repainting because when they removed the shipping plastic (or some other how), the paint was marked.

To paint it, they removed the MO and the SE badges, but forgot to put them back on.

Now, imagine that you are in Canada, at -20 F (-30 C.). You do not stand behind your vehicle for long. You get into it to stay warm.

After a few miles, all cars are grey and white from road slop and salt. So, today the dealer called to tell me she has the badges. So I checked. My car is debadged!

I think I'll take the badges "to go" (in an envelope) and decide later whether to put them back on. In Canada, if your MO is blue, it is most likely an SE. I think there are only a dozen Blue SL in the whole country, and only since October.
Mikecnj
I did not debadge my Murano but did peal off the dealer sticker and replaced the dealer license plate advertising covers with plain black ones.
rainbowfarm
Except for the round Nissan one. The dealer plate frame is still there. It looks like they also removed the dealer decal.

Saw a nice "front" plate the other day. In Quebec, we only have a plate on the rear.

Grille pic to follow. I will not wash the car at -20 (it all freezes after).
HwnMurano
Keeping the badges for now. Still not sure about this issue and will continue following the posts.:crazyeye:

Left my badging on. Did not have any dealer stickers or those would have come off. I am definitely interested in getting mine gold plated. Much better contrast with the gold than with the silver on my Blue Mo. Plus it has gold pinstriping.
jack
I love it.. No badge is the way to go..
the dealer's decals were very put on, on request and Now that I have seem a badge free Murano.. Sweet..:6:
I''ll have to post pics of my car too, Murano that is!
