I have noticed that after i first start the MO up, and walk around to put the baby in the back, ill notice for a second or two, a strong gas smell, coming out the exhaust.
And yes, its a RAW gas smell.. nothing dripping out, but strong enough to say WTF!?!

I think its this way on every car. Cold engine runs rich for quicker warmup to get the engine to the optimal temperature. During this open loop phase, you'll smell some gasoline in the exhaust.

I agree. Perfectly normal....just don't expose the baby to it......:(

I have noticed the Murano seems to be a bit more at initial start-up than I am use to. But after it is warmed up it is far less.

Its usually me getting everything piled in the back, starting the MO etc., while momma gets the kid straped in.. so he's not ever in the line of this strong smell.
Like i said, 2 seconds later, the smell is gone. I have NEVER noticed this on any car or truck i've owned. This cant be "normal." |

Most fuel mangement systems throw an extra rich mixture on cold startup to jump start the cats.

My wife's Chevy Prizm has always had this, and so did my Honda Del Sol. The MO has a MUCH STRONGER smell, but then again it's a much bigger engine and a lot more power, so I figure it's to be expected. Just about knocks you out if you're in the garage when I start it up, though! :crazyeye:
