Just got a roof mounted DVD/Monitor Unit For the MO

Goin for the self install, has anyone done this or does

anyone have any ideas, any info is greatly appreciated

before i do this.

Thanks,
Enforcer

Do you have the sunroof? Where are you thinking of putting it?

Haven't done it but have wondered. There is a flat spot that would be good for a screen, but not a hidden panel.
1_Mean- mo
Yes I`ve got the sun roof, Was thinking since my player has built in

dome lights of taking down the mo dome and mounting the unit

over that opening as directed, Question is how mutch room do i

have when the roof slides back.
Enforcer
If I understand you correctly, your going to replace the MO dome lights with the DVD unit, the sun roof shouldn't interfere. It's well behind that area. The problem it seems to me, is where do you put the sunroof controls?
1_Mean- mo
No My Plan was to place the player behind the sun roof

over the dome light with the door/pwr leads not the front

map light .

What do you think, wish i had a photo to illistrate..
Enforcer
Ah ok. Well, I don't know. The sun roof is definitely a factor there, but the dome light clears it. Just depends on how deep the DVD unit is compared to the dome light.
1_Mean- mo
A flat Plate is provided with short self tapping screws

the plate is 6in.X 6in. and is the base of the player.

It seems to me that there is abuild up of metal between

the sunroof pocket and the roof.

Any info on takeing down the head liner?

Nice DVD unit. Where did you buy it from and how much?

The pioneer unit looks real sleek, but this one has the DVD built in at the top, thats very slick!
dklanecky1
Agreed, nice looking unit, especially with the built in DVD player.

What kind of sound "outputs" does this unit have? RF,RCA,??

Where'd you find it and roughly what did it cost, if you don't mind?
1_Mean- mo
This Unit is A Pyle PLRDVD8 and can be found all over the net.
for about $500. Duckets Dont Pay More than $560.

I Bought mine though an Electronics Wholeseller $ 500.
after extensive research on the subject i chose this one
for it`s features, like Dolby Pro logic Proccessor,IR output
For IR Wireless HeadPhones,S video out,NTSC/PAL,RCA inputs,
Plays DVD,VCD,SVCD,CD-DA,CD-RW,& MP3 Formats,500 Lines
reselution,24 bit DAC,+ A TV Tuner.

There is 2 Modles with this same # One is an older modle(PL-RDVD8)
But only has a 7.8 in. screen vs. a 8in. screen on the new modle(PLRDVD8)
+more features on the new one.

Just Very poor instructions on installation...

Thanks Enforcer you run a tight site.
Enforcer
np,

Thanks, but I don't run it!

Admin does and he does a great job. We've got a lot of great people here and a great vehicle to talk about!

BTW, that's a really good price for a DVD player and monitor. Does it have any inputs?
1_Mean- mo
Yes IT Does RCA for Play Station ext.

Yeah Just Yahoo OR Google PLRDVD8 and there you have it.

Do you need an FM Modulater to listen to the TV thru the stereo?
1_Mean- mo
Yes ON the mod. _BUT I have discovered that this is NOT the
best DVD unit for the MO.

After removeing the dome lite i found A Tiny inadiquate bracket
that is definatly not strong enough for a combo unit.

Therefore i have decided to go with a stand alone DVD under
the seat or even in the center con. and a roof mount monitor
that is considerably lighter then the other player.

Consider this before you spent maga $$$
1_Mean- mo
This is the DVD ,MP3,CD-RW, player

This is the lighter larger monito with TV Tuner,Fm mod,IR

Enforcer,

Do you have the Map Light removal diagram too or the LT-308 that is mentioned?

quote:
8. Remove map lamp. Refer to LT-308, "Removal and Installation" .

I have been wanting to remove the light to check the tightness of the antenna bolt due to poor reception and the TSB about how to fix it.
Enforcer
Here ya go. There is also a picture in this thread. Basically pull the front down until the clips release and then slide forward to disengage the rear fingers.

1_MeanMo did you get all this stuff installed? If so can you post some pics?
darrylburke
I've done one of these installs in my wifes Trailblazer, and here are some tips

1) most likly you will have to drop down the whole ceiling,, this is a major !@#!@# job, I hope the MO has a better way to do it then the trailblazer..
2) you need about 2-3 inches of clearance in the roof ( to mount the bracket above the roof panel
3) the players hang LOW.. you loose quite a bit of head room, (even in the tall trailbalzer, the kids are hitting thier heads going in and out) the MO has less room height, and futher back, so be prepared for it to block vision, and hit some heads
4) you get used to driving with the blocked rear view mirror , it's not that bad.
5) the wiring should be fine as you can get the service manuals (the trailblazer had NONE, and the dealer was totally useless for providing any electrical info, I had to wing it..)

6) fitting the trimming,, the trailblazer was good since it was mounted on a very flat roof, but I still had to rim the insides of the unit so the "inside" player would match up with how the case sat flush against the roof panel. (the inside lines up with the roof bracket, and the "cover" to the bracket as well, so expect some tweaking (a dremmel is great for this task)

7) plan out how you want to run the wires from the roof to the fuse panel or other (the tarilblazer was a ***** since theere is little if any room to run the wires from the riser between the seats to the middle console panel, I had to go up and down (over and below the carpet several times dues to the screw/mounting locations for the seat to the frame)

Good Luck..
