This will be anchored off Adak on the Aleutian chain.
It is self propelled as you can see. |

It's called the SBX.
Sea Based X band radar.
During Clinton, the star wars program decided to build this on Shemya (leetle island I was on once upon a time).
Then they decided on this solution, to build it on an oil rig.
It's pretty massive.
Lots of Hi Rez pics here --> SBX |

mgthe3-
What is the purpose of the radar site? Is it still part of the "Star Wars" program?

This is the largest and most powerful radar in the world. It is able to discriminate objects only 15 centimeters apart.
It is going to be used in the ground based mid course defense system.
There have been a lot of changes to this system since its inception.
First they said they wanted 4 missiles in Alaska in hardened silos. Then it went to 10. Then they wanted an additional 10 in California.
As you can see by the following pics, they have settled on 40 in Alaska. The first pic is the first 20 tubes. The second is the second 20 tubes under construction. |

Boys will be boys. Don't you just hate when those mischievous boys down the block throw stones at your house?
