GE Nighthawks - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just became aware of GE Nighthawks as a result of advertising in Canada by Canadian Tire. Apparently they have been available for a couple of years or so.

Comparable in price to Sylvania Silver Stars and claim to produce 30% more light than conventional halogens. Light is white compared to blue of the Sylvanias.

Anyone installed these and can comment on their effectiveness and/ or improvement over OEMs??

Also as I recall from my Physics lessons many moons ago, Watts / Volts = Amps, so curious to know how a bulb rated at the same wattage as the OEMs produces more light without pulling more current?

I actually installed the Sylvania Silver Stars yesterday. There is a huge difference, a lot brighter than OEM's. The guys at CT claimed the Silver Stars are brighter than Nighthawks but I don't think there is much difference.

Regarding the power usage I think it only has to do with how effective the bulb is converting electricity to light. Less heat more light.

Thnx for your thoughts on the bulbs.

I think we met some months back - do you park at Purdy's Wharf. I used to back then but no longer need to go d'twn on a regular basis

I wonder if the Nighthawks are "overdriven" like the Silverstars. If you check Silvania's website, you will find that Silverstars have a very short service life (something like average 200 hours) vs a standard halogen bulb's life of between 600-800 hours.

I thought about putting Silverstars in my foglights, but I've heard how they burn out every 6 months, and replacing the fog light bulbs in the Murano is a real pain.

I have had Hoens for 2 years. No problems so far.

i recently switched out the silverstars out of my dads truck about a week ago after driving with them for about a year. they were good lights but the light output is kinda yellow. i found some bulbs for 20 bucks with the stock 55W and they are much whiter and brighter than the silverstars. and for 20 bucks if they burn out it dosn't cost an arm and a leg to replace.

What make are they and where did you buy them? Wagner bulbs by chance from NAPA?

there's actually eurolite xenon fusion bulbs which were purchased from jb's power center. you'll probably be able to find them on the web somewhere.
