Decided to get rid of the Mustang.
It had a LOT of rust and I just didn't want to put a whole lot of money into a toy.
So I did a little research and bought this Fiero.
Some of the things I found out.
The 1988 is the hot number.
They have a lotus designed suspension.
Much more sporty than the older ones.
Faster steering too.
They 4 cyl has a bit more oomph than the preceding 3 years (Tho most certainly the car cannot be described as fast!)
The T-tops were only available in 1988.
Most all of the t-tops came on the V6 Fastback.
In fact this is one of only 91 T-top coupes ever made.
It's a blast.
And it fits in the garage with the Murano!

The last time I owned a 1988 GM it was a Vette.
These things are good for old men.
Keeps us in shape just getting in and outa the thing!

I cannot believe how people re-engine these things.
There is a whole bunch of them over at

They change engines like I change Windshield wipers!
It just isn't a big deal with these guys.
And yes the Northstar is a drop in!
300HP in a Fiero. Unbelievable.
If those guys ever get hold of a Murano............:p

Well, it's not your eyes!
The car is really small. Just slightly bigger than a Miata.
A bit longer and quite a bit wider. But overall it is definitely a "miata class" machine.
But the tires ARE pretty big.
They are Dunlop Sport SP8000s.
The fronts are 225x50ZR15s and the rears are 245x50ZR15s.
Nothing wrong with your eyes!:1:

A boyfriend I had in high school had one of these (red too). Of course, he never impressed me with the lotus designed suspension!
Guess he never realized how much his girl actually loved cars. Guess that's why it never worked out. :) |

Nice work fella.
My dad had a Fiero; and I loved it. An absolute blast to drive. Unfortunately Pontiac fixed the flaws of Fiero WAY to late into the life of that car to keep it alive.
Dad had a 6 cyl with SR and 4 spd. An absolute blast to drive.
My personal favorite was the 88 GT....:D |

This car actually belonged to a girl. Her husband did all the work, but she definitely was the owner.

I didn't ask, but maybe the addition of the tires made the car just a bit to masculine for her.
I certainly don't see it as a chick car. Chick magnet maybe.........:1:
I too, would have preferred a V6. Not the GT tho.
The GT looked like every other 2 door coupe of the era.
But................ the condition was all important.
As it is, it has new Tires, Transmission, Clutch, Belt, and several other things.
So, unless it was putrid green or something, I was going to buy this car.
It will go thru a corner 10 or 20 mph faster than the MO, so it is "fast enough".
0-60 tho, is a very long time. It can be timed with an egg timer. :D
Here's a pic showing how "open" it is with the T-tops in the trunk (Where they will spend nearly all of the next 6 months).
Now do you understand why I am still upset with Nissan and their "half of a sunroof"?:confused:
BTW, if i had a girlfriend that was into cars like this, I woulda married her.

Wow, good catch! Most cameras these days auto sense, so It's surprising it even went off. Dennis, do you collect old cameras? I haven't seen one of those in 20 years at least.
Homer, what's it like going from the height of the Murano to the height of the Fiero? Do people in Murano's completely miss you when they look out the passenger side windows? |

Actually using flash in Florida makes a perfect sense. The sun is very harsh resulting in large contrast between sunny and shadow areas. So when you use flash you basically fill-in shadows. Photos looks better and the tonally subtle. This is one of the reason that most of the pros fire flash almost all the time. Just try and you will see the difference………..but you know this already, don’t you….. |

Anyway............that's what I do.
I use Fill Flash on every shot......unless I'm trying to do something artsy fartsy. And that is rare.
I just take snaps and have had too many shots where the info I was trying to portray was embedded in the shadows.

At those light levels, I would have thought even the shadows would already have more light in them than the flash could really impact. And the sunny spots would be immensely beyond that, of course, which just hammers the camera's lack of dynamic range.
Does it actually fill in?
That's one place where overcast days are great! |

I agree with slight overcast. It is great for photography in tropics.
Fill in - yes it does fill in. How much? It depends on flash power. On most P&S it works only at close distance, say 2, maybe 3 meters. However, pro flash is a different matter. |
