You just gotta' love that accent. I would buy a Yugo from her.

Ohio Murano
I agree, I would buy beach front property in Az from her. Seriously good video though.

She makes me wonder....

Is ni'sen the way to pronounce the company name?

Homer
bigdongers
I have always found it strange how you guys pronounce it nee-san.
Kris
Common guys! Give her a break! She is really nice……..at least she is trying to use English…………..no an American slang………..and she is saying nice thing about Murano!

So “thumbs up for this commercial”!

Hm, on the second thought the steering wheel seems to be in the wrong place………or maybe it is only my impression…
jaak
Ah yes, yet another demonstration that every single english speaking country in the world says ZED except for one.

:p

I can't remember much of what she said, but whatever she was talking about, I want to buy. Nissan sounded correct to me...

Aluminium did jump out, however, because Canadians say Aluminum like our buddies to the south. Like Australia, we do have 350ZEDs and Camaro ZED28s, yet we go with ZEE ZEE Top and joke about ZED ZED Top and of course, the new Corvette that will blow your mind is the ZEE OH SIX.

We're such a flexible lot up here.

Oh, the other thing that grabbed my ear, is the common Aussie use of the word "heaps". The accent really jumps on that one. Made me want to go back for another visit and search out more relatives.

Well, gotta go watch it again. She's cute! And I'm curious what it was she was driving... :D

Best Nissan Murano commercial ever.

Car didn't look bad either! :D

Did anyone notice the huge rear mudflaps on the Australian version?

Yeah, they are long... Longer than the ones that come on the Canuck version. I noticed a Murano that time, too!
bigdongers
Our Australian Design Rules mandate the fitting of mudflaps on SUVs to reduce the amount of water spray. The mudflaps need to be a certains size I believe.

I currently drive a CRV and there was a recall on the mudflaps because they didnt comply with the Design Rules. Too small I think was the problem so Honda had to replace them.

We have other strange rules like cars fitted with HIDs must have washers too.
jaak
The HIDs rule actually makes sense. Take a very bright light, put dust and dirt all over the lens and it will be diffused, causing a lot of glare. (Wish my Murano had that problem!)

My younger sister lives in Sydney, Australia. I will see if I can persuade her to get a Murano.
So when I am visiting her thid DEC, I will be driving the same car I am driving here in northern US. :2:

We will see how influencial you are......;)

Good luck with your trip DownUnder....
zebelkhan
I watched this commercial several times and besides the gal's good looks and accent, I also noticed the real life presentation of the Murano, that is, the dust and dirt on the carpet and dash, the large scratch by the ignition switch, and the creases and cracks on the driver seat buttom.....things I could easily relate to!

I liked the fact that the car was being driven through reall streets by a real person...Why can't they do the same in the US?

I agree. This is the best Nissan commercial ever...

Is is budget or an inherent BS filter that Australians are built with?

I like the approach too. It was like a biased test drive, but it gives more real world info than an flashy commercial.

Good, I come by it honestly... (My mum was born in Melbourne.)

That was my take on the "review" as well, it's a commercial. But at least it's a commercial with information, not a useless lifestyle commercial that wastes your time and tells you nothing. (Like the ones we have to tolerate.)
quog
Probably one of the first in Australia - have seen this one (same plates, model and colour) in a few articles in four wheel drive magazines, so they would have given it heaps.

jaak, Aussies have a great BS filter, its because of all the practice we get from watching all the (insert country of choice) television shows shown over here :D
jaak
Ah yes, well I can directly relate to that since I can receive two countries broadcasts directly, from here.

Am I the only one that noticed she said that standard equipment was speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering?

Unless I'm mistaken -- my American MO has no such option, not even as an upgrade, which was one of my complaints after plunking down 35K for a vehicle that didn't have variable effort/speed sensitive power steering, a feature I've had in my past 3 cars including a $15,000 Saturn?

I also think the Climate Controls and Bose head unit look cooler than the American models. I wonder if it's purely cosmetic or if they have different functionality....

I believe you are mistaken. The specifications of the Murano lists speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering as standard.

I don't see any mudflaps on the front which is odd for a FWD auto, especially if they require the large flaps in the rear.

Was that added in 2005 or 2006? I'm pretty sure my sticker just said "Steering - Power Rack & Pinion".

It sure doesn't FEEL variable... except of course when the wheel gets hard to turn at low speeds because the steering pump sucks and Nissan won't replace it...
hfelknor
There is no question that the 2003 does NOT have speed sensitive steering.

Homer

I am fairly certain all Muranos have ENGINE SPEED sensitive power steering. This is less useful than the more performance oriented VEHICLE SPEED sensitive power steering. However, its still more than normal overboosted power steering.

Does vehicle speed power steering make the feel heavier/lighter at high/low speed or what is the advantage?

You would want less boost while driving at higher speeds, for more road feel. Modern engines rev low, even on the highway, making engine speed sensitive steering kind of redundant, it would be overboosted both in the city and the highway. Vehicle speed sensitive steering, however, would effectively keep boost high in the city, low on highway or curvy roads.
hfelknor
Oh, I'll bet that you are right Eric!

Now I remember that the 350Z has Engine speed power steering. I remember wondering at the time if that had something to do with their crappy front tire mileage. I think it might have contributed but apparently it is just a really poor front suspension design.

Well, I do not like it for the very reasons you show.

Yuck. No wonder some claim that the darn thing tends to wander a bit.
It has FULL power steering boost (or darn close to it) when you are driving down the road at a steady 60 or 70 MPH.
Just the OPPOSITE of what you want.
Dumb.

Of course I imagine that Nissan is not the only one to take this way out. It DOES work while parking of course. But I think most US makes use the much superior Vehicle Speed Sensitive Power Steering.

Good catch, none the less.

we only get single zone climate control and the temp is not shown on the info screen. The Bose unit is different too and is not linked to the info screen either so can be replaced easily with another unit. We get the Bose system with 6 speakers + sub and its 225 watts.

Nissan Australia has added a new video to their website.

enjoy!

Did anyone else notice that the Australia Murano has the additional side-mounted turn signal lights behind the front wheels? I wish they had them on the US model.

I know about the after-market turn signals for the mirrors, but these would be perfect!

I wonder if it's possible to get a set and have them installed here?

Its a requirement that all cars here have side indicator lights. Normally they are like where the Murano has it but more and more newer cars have them built in the side mirrors ala mercedes benz.

Im sure you could install a set if you wanted. Just need to dremel a hole in the fender.

Sure!

Just watched the video. Its interesting the reporter complained about the engine noise. The VQ's growling snarl on acceleration is one of the engine's defining qualities, in my opinion. Infiniti does it better with the FX though, that one has a wonderful sounding exhaust note.

I still can't get over the huge rear mudflaps on the Aussie model. It cuts into the sleek curves of the vehicle shape.

Yes very nice shine! The import modding crowd here in the states have been putting side marker signals on their Honda Civics, Integras, and Accords for years now. It involves drilling a hole in the sheet metal to mount the light, although its recommended one thoroughly rustproofs the edges of the hole before installing the light.

I'm all in favor of additional signal lights on the side or on the mirrors. In fact, I think its silly that the US does not require daytime driving lights - its a completely unobtrusive safety feature (to the driver) that can only save lives (and cost you a cheap halogen bulb every few years).

I love the look of the Murano with the side marker lights. It gives the car a European (Australian?) flare.

Out of curiosity, do the side marker lights come on with the headlights? Or do they just function as turn signals?

Curvacious, Sporty and Bold...I think he was talking about the other commercial where the MO ain't bad either :D. Actually I'd like to see Clauda Black do one of these :10:

Too bad she's off in fighting the baddies in "Auri dimension" now. Sorry I couldn't resist throwing in that SG-1 reference there. :D

They operate as turn signals only.

I never noticed the US models didnt have them until you guys brought it up!
