I'm thinking of tinting my 2006 Murano SL driver and passenger side windows. Our local TNT shop (tops in our State) suggested that I Tint all windows (except the front) despite the dark windows in the back seat area. Any ideas?
Anyone had problems with the back heating element on the backwindow when placing a tint over it? |

On my other car, I had the rear window tinted and the rear defroster worked fine.
I don't know if I agree with tinting all the windows unless you're planning to go very dark (i.e. limo) all the way around. I found that 35% tint was about right on my former 2003 Murano. With the Glacier Pearl paint, it really looked great. On my current Murano, since my wife will be driving it often, I opted not to tint the front windows for visibility reasons.
Also bear in mind that some sunglasses with polarized lenses (e.g. Maui Jim) will not work well with some metalic tints and will distort either vision or color.

| 35% is the max i would go for tinting the front passenger and drivers door windows. it's pretty close to the stock rear tints but still has enough visibility. also the film i have on mine works fine with polarized sunglasses(maui jims). for the rears another 5 to 10 percent wold be more than enough and should cause any problems with the heating element in the rear glass(altough i don't know when you would need to use it in hawaii) but again it should be fine. |

| I think the Tint % is subject to opinion. I had my Mo front windows tinted as dark as legal which I believe was 30 % here in Florida. This did not even come close to matching the rear which I believe is 15%. I did not like the mismatch. Most tint installers will install 15% all the way around with a cash payment. I believe in Hawaii you may want to go darker than 30% or 35%. My Murano already had the rear hatch window and rear passenger windows tinted so I only had to get the front windows done, is this not the case everywhere else? |

Paniolo - here in KS we get a lot of 95-100+ summer sunny days so I did 20% down both sides.
By doing this it darkens up the front sides & back window, but the back is just to hard to back up with the very dark limo 5% tint effect. |

Doesn't bother me. I had my 2 fronts tinted with 15%. Matches the rears well.
I certainly wouldn't tint the rears....it's completely uncessesary with the factory tinted glass. |

With only 6% of light passsing thru that is darker than limosine tint. How can you see with it? Is driving at night a problem? |
|
|

| Actually see pretty well the only time its hard is backing up at night, back in the day had an F-150 with double 5% all the way around & 30% on front windsheild. That was dark.:26: Back at home in Florida were they didn't care what you put on, besides the police that is.:11: |

I also have a new black 2006 Murano SL model. Even though my back windows as well as my tail gate window had a tint type from the factory, I had it tint over with a the top of the line Pinacle tint.
Believe me, your black MO will look real cool!!.... |

IF a heavily tinted car ever hits me, they better be legal or I will sue their pants off.
Paniolo, the law is 35% on the windows in Hawaii.
Here is a site that shows the various state requirements.

Homer,
"TNT" Tinting is number one Tinting installation in Hawaii. They ensure that the legal 35 percent of tinting is installed on all cars. On their recommendation, I had my black MO tinted all around. According to these folks, the factory windows in the back and the tail gate is not tint film... |

I love the look of tinted windows on a car. However, like most anything, you can overdo it to the point where safety is compromised.
I have seen a few cars where the front windshield is so dark you cannot see inside the car in the daytime. While that may look sharp on a show car in broad daylight, I don't like the idea that it is illegally sharing the same road with my family at night.
My brother is a police officer and you can understand how he must feel walking up to the drivers window not knowing if the occupants are pointing a weapon at him. That is an awful feeling.

If they know what they are doing, then they know that it doesn't matter whether there is a "film" tint used or not.
It's the total degree of reflectivity that counts.
Don't know if the cops carry these in Hawaii, but some do here in FL. and many other states.

Pocket Detective 3.0
Window Tint & Reflectance Meter
The Pocket Detective 3.0 Window Tint Meter offers unprecedented accuracy and reliability. This device offers solutions for both Visible Light Transmission (VLT) measurements along with
Visible Light Reflectance (VLR) measurements. VLT is in reference to the percentage of light transmitted through glass and VLR is in reference to the amount of light reflected.
The function of measuring reflectance is important for today's law enforcement and inspection facilities to insure proper visibility for the safety of the driver and public safety officials. |

| I was stopped by a Florida State Trooper on the Turnpike down in West Palm Beach last year. His device was a box w/a slit where the window slid in. 1st time in 15 years I've ever been stopped solely for tint. |

Likewise in IL. But i do want to do 50% but I can't find it anywhere anymore.
I had 5% in the back windows in my old college beater and it was impossible to see out the back at night. Not gonna do that again. |

| Outcome was a ticket for improper equipment. I paid the ticket. If this becomes a regular occurence I might consider changing, or getting an eye doctor's Rx for sensitivity to UV light.. :-) |

That would require Rx tinted sunglasses on the human not tint on the car. :1pat: |

If anyone with any tinting on their glass should always roll down all of your windows when you're pulled over ... and if the cop starts sniffing inside your car for pot, tell him why you did it, to make him feel safe because of the tinted glass. ... yeah and your brother is a cop too... that might also help you not get a ticket. :2: |

With tint, but it looks like the front is darker than the back. I've would probably go the other way where the front is lighter...but too bad it's illegal in IL.
Oops...................I just realized that was a photoshop pix. |

Ha... yup, it's photoshopped... just to get an idea if I like the tint or not. I think i do, but you are correct, it's way to dark. I'm thinking half of the way if looks... a little lighter then the back, so it start off light and gets darker as it goes back.
The back is 20% right? I have an appointment to get 35% put on the front windows this friday. I know it's illegal here in Jersey... but I'm hoping it's not that dark so i don't get pulled over. Worse case, I remove it after. |

I was taking a break from waxing my mo this past Saturday, and was sitting on my front steps in Margate NJ ...
More then half of the cars that drove by had tinted front windows that matched the back windows... all were at the most 3 years old, most of them where SUVs, and there was about 30 of them, and all with NJ tags.
And this is a law in NJ, zero front tinting?
I think if you perfectly match the back windows that you'll be fine ... how many times in the past 10 or 20 years have you been stopped by the police?
I drive like a lunatic and only been stopped 4 times in my life, and talked my way out of all but 1 speeding ticket (or they gave me a ticket for something like a tail light being out ... when I had no tail light out ... and I was very happy for the $15 dollar ticket instead of the $450 I should have gotten) - The cop had to have a reason for pulling me over "tail light" :D
I never drive after drinking (nowdays). And I always wear my seatbelt. And never drive fast where other people could be hurt. (school zones/play grounds ...etc.)
When a cop stops you its not going to be over your tinting unless you have limo tint. If you have limo tint and I was a cop and had you pulled over... I'd pull my gun and point it at your head with the hammer pulled back untill I was right up on your car and could see inside. And if you kept your windows up ... you could end up dead real easy. "BANG!". Crap like this happens all the time, just watch the news...
My point, if you have tinting that makes a cop feel unsafe they'll throw the book at your and your car.
A light tinting that lets others still be able to see in your car, you sould be fine. All matters on how many times you get pulled over ... I don't think most cops are going to care, unless you're doing 90 miles per hour thru a school zone and you're a kid, with a crack pipe hanging out of your mouth, wearing gang colors, blasting rap music about "shooting cops"... Or, (just as bad) you don't know when to keep your mouth shut.
I've seen an idiot last summer turn a $25 dollar fine in to a $1,000.00 dollar fine just by not knowing when to keep their mouth shut.
My point, if you're smart get a light tinting, unless the cops in your area are ball busters.
If you're smart and work for the goverment, (fireman, etc.) get a little darker....(matching back windows)
If you're a idiot, get the limo tint and beep and wave your arms out the windows at cops while speeding past them and when pulled you over keep your windows rolled up ... (one less defect to the human gene pool). |

| I got 50% on my daily commuter just to keep the sun from burning my arm. Still light enough to see in. I always see state troopers pulling people over with "darker" tint on the freeway. One day I'll tint the MO, but the wife is still paranoid about getting a ticket since it's illegal in IL. (not fair, she get to drive my MO, while I get to "save" money and gas by using her Corolla for commuting.:( ) |

| I tinted my fronts with 35. The combo with the almost nonexistant stock tint in front is still lighter than the stock back but looks and works great here in Texas. |

Thank you Joe...
I thought about the cars that drove by...
And I think I know why so many of the cars I saw had tinting and why they get away with it.
ghetto cruser vs. a 30+ thousand dollar murano... both with tinting, which one do you think the police are going to pull over?
I'm going to get mine tinted to match the back windows this weekend if I can get in the shop.
Go Flyers!!! |

Car's tinted window leads to traffic stop and drug arrest
MANCHESTER -- A driver's darkened window led to a drug arrest just before Tuesday's night's fireworks shows across the region.
A patrolman stopped a car on Route 571 at 8:37 p.m. after noticing illegal window tint, according to a press release.
The officer then learned the driver, Christopher Stires of Ewing, Mercer County, was in possession of marijuana, the release stated.
Stires, 24, was arrested and charged with drug offenses and having illegal window tint.
I bet he's real happy about that illegal window tint now.

Easy solution... tint your windows, but don't drive w/ drugs on you. I've had mine tinted for months, pulled up next to cops at a light, and looked over at him, he was looking at me.... lucky for me nothing. I've been in similiar situations a few times where i've next to cops... KNOCK ON WOOD... no troubles yet.
35%.... which you can see in so it might not look so tinted on certain angles. 20% and I think it would be a different story.
I love the 35%... makes the it look like it is going from light to dark as it goes back... compared to black to light with no tint.
Inspection in 3 years... will be whole new story. |
