With apologies to the small percentage of Mo Pimpers, those are things that I want to do to the rice-a-ronies.

It is very clear now.

When it comes to automobiles and now automobile videos - the German are one of the most superior.

When it comes to recognizing musical talent - none.

On the Phaeton forum (VWVORTEX) they are all a ga ga over these unpimp commercials. I have yet to see a pimped Phaeton.

Anyway they think that these will bring back the VW into the market in a big way. We will see.

If they worked on the reliability (of their more plebian models) they would be better served in bringing the VW back into the market in a big way.

homer,

you are right about the reliability. But still the commercials were hilarious!

Don,
I simply cannot imagine pimped Phaeton, Rolls Royce, MB, Jaguar……….oh I forgot there are rap singers who can afford cars like these…………..shame

The upper management thinks they are correct in everything they do. They are satisfied with only what they know for themselves, and really will not listen to anybody else, so are doomed to reinventing the marketing whel so to speak.

Also it is very difficult to get any sort of a deal on a VW from a dealer, at least in this part of the world that I am familiar with.

The commercials are surely hilarious but I note the same attitude, It must be the way they design it or no way at all. Pimping a ride is an expression of individuality they are not willing to accept even if it costs them the potential customers that want to pimp their own cars. Poking fun at a significant part of the buying public seems foolish to me.

The commercials are indeed funny but so are the characters acting in the commercials, to me they seem very much odd balls themselves.

As usual I assume I am just not getting it, guess I'll have to try harder and will just as soon as I can stop laughing.

My perception of the commercials is that they're targetted at those same people that already laugh at the blue LEDs on the wipers, silly wings, soup can exhausts and more mature than the "ricer" crowd. The same people that have an appreciation for performance, but without the trashy look that does nothing to add to the vehicle in a functional manner. They also happen to be the ones buying new cars...

The character trashing them, is also mocking the "german engineer" with a funny stereotype of what a "cool" middle aged german engineer would look and act like.

Both ends are funny... The point they're trying to make is to differentiate yourself from the Japanese competitors with a product that's already designed with performance and looks in mind.

Do you agree with that? Well buying a car has a lot to do with what you want to believe, but not always what's reality. After all, Hyundai is making just as good a product as Toyota, but most people would not percieve that to be true.

So I l laugh at both ends of the commercial's stereotypes, as well as the cars they trash. And the best part for me? The cars they trash... :D Take a Murano and put a stupid large wing and scoop on it, and I'd want to see it get trashed as well. Same with any car that's been modified to look ridiculous, without real purpose.

I don't believe VW's target customers would be offended by these ads at all... Just like Dodge's customers aren't offended by the Charger being advertised as a hybrid, because it burns both gas and rubber. The people that find that offensive, are already looking at buying a Prius and financing the purchase and installation of replacement batteries and a safe removal and disposal of the old ones, in four years.

Great videos....

How long do you think it will be until you see your first pimped-out VW GTI MK V, complete with wing, blue lights, and coffee-can exhaust? I'm guessing early summer.

True. The older 1.8T were easily moddable with ECU tuning to increase the stock turbo boost.

It is interesting to see the more mature crowd here turn their noses at flashy mods. When you are young and poor, thats all you can afford. All of us at some point or another "customized" our rides in a way that otehr people might not have liked. :p
GripperDon
What is it they say? An optimun arrangement would be to Have a British cop and Italian cook and a German mechanic and you have good stuff. But change the arrangement and it's horrible.

When I see the efforts made by sellers (stores) not to offend anyone at Christmas by saying Holidays. I perceived that the VW could offend some potential buyers, and with their sales offending Anyone is hazardous

IMHO it is a very, very small percentage of VW customers who are purchasing their cars with the intention of modifying the bodywork to the extremes depicted in the commercials. I believe the percentage is so small as to be insignificant. And to those few who drive pimped-out VWs, they should see the commercials for what they are - parodies. There is no need for anyone to be offended.

Those same people the commercials are poking fun at will still buy a VW if that is what they want, regardless of what a short-lived commercial depicts.

Personally, I think the commercials are both funny and original. It will be interesting to see if, when and where they air on TV.

Around here there are so many Pimped out cars you can not believe it. I see many more every day than Jettas and Murnao combined. I sure think they are original and somewhat funny in some ways to me but I wondered if they will be funny to the folks with a pimped out Honda (lots of them also with wings higher than the roof line) Will it inspire them to buy a VW product. As was said by Eric young not enought money to buy a Murano but wanting to have "their own" vehicle. However Jack may be right that thoes folks will not buy one anyway.

VW surely has to do something with the desperate situation they are in. Like offer the Hyundai warranty or the Nissan price or.

They even rival GM with money troubles, they are luch the german goverment will never let them go under. But you may be right and it will turn them on. I guess I hate authority so much and have a real attitude about being told what is right for me that it rubbed me the wrong way. My attitude is if I like the big air scoop then the H with them if they don't. I remember when I did the tinted tails on my "Mod MO" and some did not like them got called a ricer look, well too bad, I did.

Anyway it's not about me and my point of view, but what works. I wish them well I have one of their cars and want to see them have some buck to start re-importing it again. (I think - it may be nice to have an instant collectors item, but I need warranty support) And they surely need something that does (see above)

Not a commercial, but still features the GTI.

Considering the GTI now comes standard with Xenons, the blue lights you will be seeing will be the real thing (unlike on some Muranos that are on this very site).

Big wings have never been a staple of the GTI set, so I doubt it will be so in the future.

Coffee can exhaust. No doubt a few people will be upping the boost on the engine as they did with the MkIV GTI, and in those cases they will probably go with a turbo-back or cat-back exhaust, but there aren't too many MkIVs running around with just a fart-can.

I think these ads speak perfectly to the target demographic. These are drivers that understand that there is more to a car than mad boost yo! or grounding kits or fake HIDs or clear tails. I'm talking about new car buyers of course, but those are the only ones VW cares about.

The thing is, the MkV GTI is not cheap transportation. Sure it starts in the low 20s, but packaged as most people buy one it will be mid to high 20s. It will appeal to a slightly different demographic than the typical Blockbuster Video or Home Depot working high school graduate whose dream car is a pimped Civintegra or Neon. They have to also set themselves apart from the Evo and STi crowd (despite the price difference, some cross-shopping is inevitable) by being a bit understated in styling but more solid, albeit with a less powerful FWD chassis. (Arguably far less potential for high HP gains with aftermarket... at least at first).
