5,000.7 miles…… - Click HERE for Original Thread
Kris
OK, I know it is Murano site so I will keep it Murano related. After the hassles with a dealer and Nissan Customer Service we decided to alter our vacations plans (first time ever! So Nissan you have achieved something!) and shorten the trip. Still the GPS showed 5,000.7 miles! Not bad.
We set early morning on Saturday for Forth Smith, AR. 720 miles journey on first day. The first stop was Memphis to see the mighty Mississippi river. Great river, however the city – not very impressive……….so we continued through Arkansas. Much better feeling. We liked the Little Rock. Somehow it has very friendly feeling. We arrived in Forth Smith with time to spare to have “look around” and nice dinner.
Second day was just a short trip through Oklahoma and TX to get us to Amarillo, TX and visit the Palo Duro Canyon – amazing canyon in otherwise plain landscape.
Kris
Third day saw us crossing the order with New Mexico and drive through northeastern part of the state. We decided to go off the I40 and see real country. See the next few pics. It was well worth it. The country was just amazing! That day we arrived at Santa Fe and my wife experienced fist had what high altitude mean! 7,000 feet is not a joke. And even Murano felt it but more about it later.
Santa Fe was our base for day trips around the area. Took 1,200 photos. I know digital is bad, and 2GB card does not help! But…I may post some pics later if it is not boring for you guys…..below just a few Murano related ones…

New Mexico – Red Country. It really is that red….

Bobcat Pass, yes, it is really that high…..almost 3,000 meters above the sea level. Murano did it with ease….

So how Murano performed. We loved it. Especially after the deadening project it proved to be a perfect cruiser. The only problem, as my wife put it “we had a glider, you made it quiet glider, but somebody put a small Cessna in front of the car”!. She was referring to the noise that Nissan dealer could not diagnose and said it was “normal”. But more on this in a separate tread.

What almost got me was the performance decrease on high altitudes. In Santa Fe I almost had an accident as Murano would not accelerate! Or rather was very sluggish. But everything go to normal when we got back to Texas through El Paso. We than got home driving through San Antonio, Austin Houston, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Montgomery.
Average fuel consumption – 22.7 mpg. Very good in my opinion as most of the time the speed was close to 80 mph. Hope you enjoyed the pics. I am working on converting the RAW to JPEG so I may post a few more later on….

awesome trip!! it's strange that the murano had problems getting around at high altitudes, ours dosn't seem to be phased by it and we go to the mountains quite often. maybe w/e this noise is may be contributing to it.

Kris-

Nice pix. I look forward to seeing more of them.

What was the structure in Texas with the stars on it? A memorial?

Great pics, Kris! I grew up in Amarillo, Texas, and can vouch for what an armpit of a city it is. But Palo Duro Canyon is a wonder! I spent lots of time as a kid exploring the canyon and enjoying its beauty. Did you happen to see the Cadillac Ranch on your way into Amarillo? What a hoot seeing all those fins sticking out of the ground!
Kris
Homer,
I do not think pix in the garage will help. You would need to put them on your bedroom wall!

PS. Did you notice how well the Gold fit/blend in the environment? I guess we both have good taste....:)

Nissanlove,
Sorry. I must have been unclear. Murano did very well. Just the performance was not up to what I am used to in low altitudes. I could not spin the wheel while making a sharp turn :) Otherwise everything was OK

Njjoe,
Is was just a Welcome Center. They do it very well in Texas.

pcs15394,
they will come in a day or so.

TexInFla,

Also took some panoramas. This one shows Rio Grande. Original image is 29,000 x 5,000 pixels and can be printed as 145" x 25". Below is a resized image. The next pix is a small cut out from the original to show you what the original contains, I mean how much details...
