The family and I went to the local airport air show today.
Cool beans--actually, that was the name of an old navy fighter next to where we sat under the wing of a P51. The sun was blazing, hense the seat under the wing.
Lotsa cool planes from WWII, a zero complete with torpedo, 4 big ole bombers and lots of navy trainers, and a german fighter--quite rare because most were destroyed that had swastikas on them.
They had an F15, that was cool, wish it would have flown---made a note to attend the AF base's air show next time so we can see jets.
They had some RV planes (kit built), very colorful. and some neat-O formation flying.
They had a Russian built aerobatic plane--the speaker said it was tested out past 11G's without failure. It was doing some neat-O stunts.
Had the ubiquitous Biplanes. Was so cool to see how they could almost go straight up in the stiff headwind while taking off.
Hey Kris, didja make it?

| Being a pilot for work and play I can't wait for the summer Nantucket airshow in my area. Just love this stuff. P51... amazing machine. |

I am a ww2 nut and love those aircraft. Old "high tech" is fascinating. A few years ago I was at Modesto airport while Fifi (the only flying B-29) was having a blown cylinder replaced. I asked about the lack of superchargers, while walking under her. They had been removed to ease strain on engines. Was pretty wild looking at all those zerk fillings that control the cooling fins! A really large aircraft. In fact, I have recently read that the B-29 project cost more than the Manhattan project!
Only two other aircraft that are my favorites are the Dehaviland Mosquito and the P-61 Black Widow. Darrell. |
