I have a 2006 Nissan Murano 2WD without a hitch on it so I need either a good bike rack that mounts to the back or a set of crssbars with a roof mount bike rack. I just want something that holds at least 2 bikes and that is good quality, does anyone have anything for me? E-mail me at Kramer347@aol.com, I am in ohio.

Hi Platinum,

I did a fair amount of research on bike rack options for the Murano. I wanted something easy to use, but didn't like the conventional hang-your-bike-over-the-bar designs (3 bikes in family, all very different frame configs). So, I ended up buying a Curt hitch receiver #12571 @ $160 (lots of posts on how to install) and a Swagman XC4 bike rack for 4 bikes @ $230 (they also sell a 2-bike version).

What I like about this particular bike rack is that it is super simple and super fast to load - but bikes in stirrups, ratched hook tight against frame, done! Photo below.

Only problem (working with manaufacturer now to resolve) is that it can't fold up into the locked position before hitting the bumper. If I can work a solution with Swagman, I'll pass that info along to you and the forum. Otherwise, if you are just transporting bikes, it is super nice.

. . . and a side shot . . .

P.S. What is the easiest way to post photos here without making them super small or going through the hassle of photo editing??

Cheers,

I have the same setup and was wondering if you were able to solve the problem of the rack hitting your bumper.

I'm using the Thule crossbar mount with the 590-V2 bike mounts. The model of the crossbar I believe was the 752XT(don't qoute me on that). They do have a more updated model (450R Rapid Crossroad) that has smoother lines at the clamping points. They are super duty and I have used them from carrying sheet goods to cargo boxes and lumber on these crossbars. Much sturdier than the factory crosses and I would recommend them to anyone who wants their money worth. I have other photo in my gallery if you want to see more. Check them out at Thule's website http://www.thulegroup.com/en .

Hello psycokiller,

So far, my solution has been not to fold up the bike rack (bummer, I know). However, my PLAN has been to go to a trailor shop and have them remake the one connecting bar about 3" longer (looks easy enough to replace). However, I have no idea what that does to the integrity, strength and safety of the design. Unfortunately, the company never responded to any of my E-mails.

I have emailed Swagman and they were not helpful at all. Anyways, what I think I will do is to get something like this.

I think this should solve the problem.
