Just installed the Seidio G4850M GPS+TomTom Car Kit for Treo 650 in my 2006 MO (which doesn't have factory Nav).
-hands-free speaker phone for the Treo smartphone PLUS
-GPS for the TomTom software installed on the Treo.
-The install was a nightmare, but now that I have it up and running it is quite simply one of the coolest electronic tools I've seen. The GPS, even in my small, rural town is accurate and easy to program and follow. It recalculates routes in 3 seconds if you miss a turn. Maps are beautiful. The voice instruction is helpful and pleasant.
The Software and Seidio cradle bundle are about $350. |

I should say, to clarify, the software installation onto the Treo was frustrating... the install of the cradle was a snap.

Last night I tested the system driving the extreme rural areas of the county. Mostly dirt roads in the fog and darkness. I used frequent "Find alternate routes" to complicate matters, again as a challenge to the GPS.
The Treo/TomTom/Seidio GPS performed admirably. How comforting to be in the dark on almost one-lane gravel roads and see the names of approaching cross roads around the next bend, then as advertised, watch the street sign wiz by in the dust.
I entered destinations with ease, then after telling TomTom (lol) to bypass major highways, it/he found routes i didn't even realize existed, and I've been in the area for 35 years!
Though the screen is smaller then factory Nav, the Treo sits a bit closer to the eyes so I had little trouble seeing the map. Also, the voice commands are quite well done... the sexy female voice is easy to follow. I just love, "At the end of the road, turn right in 300 yards, beautiful" or something like that, lol.
The handsfree phone is loud and I'm told the voice quality is good on the other end.
Cons - It's not hard-wired; the cradle is a bit wobbly attached to the vent (there is also a windshield mount that might work, but it's a literal stretch in the MO), the software sometimes freezes and requires a soft boot, the Point of Interest list is somewhat dated. The software install is confusing. Lastly, with GPRS/GSM Treos, the system disables Bluetooth.
Over-all highly recommend. |

I agree.
NAV systems, factory or after market absolutely kick @ss.
It's so cool to know that you're never lost! I love the "find the nearest" feature.
Nearest gas, airport, restaurant, casino, zoo?????? Not a problem.
Soon, they'll be as standard as power windows.
I like your setup! |
