I just got my MO today. Ordered one on the lot 2 days ago and had them install a remote starter for $600. Yes I know, VERY expensive, but they assured me it wouldn't void the warranty and gave me the impression that no one else could do it because of the smart key. That was all before I found this site. Anyway, it is money spent and no need to dwell on it.
They took my valet key which is fine. But, here are the problems:
1) They didn't tell me what unit they put in.
2) They didn't give me any manuals.
3) When I press unlock once, the drivers door unlocks. The second time, all the other doors unlock AND the car starts. I thought I would need to press unlock three times. Any ideas?
4) Whether it is two or three times, how do you start the car and leave the doors locked?
5) Not necessarily a remote start question: If you leave the car on while you exit the car with the smart key, how long will the ignition stay on? Indefinitely?
I have many more questions, but I have to run now. This is a very useful forum and I hope I will have the opportunity to contribute and help others as you all have helped me.
Thanks in advance. |

gadgetfreak-
Congrats on your new MO and welcome to the forum.
First of all, I would contact the dealer and get the name and model number of the remote starter. Then I would look up the starter on the internet and download all available manuals and documentation. I would also have the dealer mail all related paperwork to your attention.

| Thanks for your post. I will be contacting the dealer tomorrow to get the information. However, I have an update to the situation: It seems pressing the button once unlocks ALL the doors and the second time starts the car (keeping the doors unlocked). So I have lost the functionality of just opening the driver's door and I still don't understand how to start the car and leave the doors locked. Maybe the answer is to press unlock twice followed by lock once. That would certainly have the desired effect. Any other ideas? Thanks again. |

I have the Intel key and remote start.. I wont tell you how much it cost and get you sick. :D Anyway, this is how mine works.
I press LOCK three times and the Murano starts.
I press LOCK three times and the Murano stops.
The other things are the Mo norm...
Press unlock once, the driver door unlocks,
Press it twice all doors unlock.
Hold down unlock and windows go down.
ALthough I think you can change it to open all the doors with pressing the unlock once... but why would you do that??
So my only thought to you is....
If you are different and press UNLOCK (instead of lock) to start your car.. then your car is running with the doors unlocked. Not good. I would suggest trying to get that changed so that when you start it, the doors remain locked. Makes sense, ah?? :4:
Congrats on the purchase... and don't ever buy directly from Nissan any parts again without talking to us. They are a rip-off. |

Thank you. I knew there was something wrong. I am going back to the dealer today. I wonder if they put in a unit that is different than yours and won't work the same way. But, you can bet I am printing this out to show them. It's OK, you can tell me how much you spent. As I said, it's done. Nothing I can do about it now. But thanks for your post.
Since you seem to be in the same boat as me, can you please look at my other thread regarding leaving the engine and walking away with the smart key? Maybe you can offer some insight. Thanks again. |

Just got back from the dealer. First of all, for those of you who said that the dealer simply charges you $200 to drive your car down the block - you are 100% correct. When they couldn't configure the starter the way I wanted, the dealer "liason" drove me down the block to a garage/store that installs alarms, starters, tint, etc.
I asked the owner how much he would have charged me and he said $300 but going through the dealer lets me keep my Nissan warranty. Whether the extra $300 is worth it to keep the warranty (and whether they wouldn't fix my car under warranty of there was trouble) is another issue and doesn't matter anymore. As I said, what's done is done.
So the installer tells me that the 06 Murano has a security feature in it that will not allow the car to start if a lock command is sent from the keyfob. Therefore, he cannot possibly understand how to set the starter to go on and off by pressing lock 3 times. I showed him the printout of these forums, but he had no idea what to do. He did, however, tell me it was a DEI unit but I forgot to get the manual from him.
So now, when I press unlock once, the driver's door opens. Twice - all the doors open. Third time - the car starts. And then I need to press lock to lock the car (but only after the 2 seconds it takes to start the car).
The extra button press and 2 second delay is not a big issue but I don't like the idea of having to unlock the car first. What if my 4th press doesn't register for some reason? I would prefer to map the panic button or hold down the lock button to start the car. I would even be OK with the other poster who said to press lock 3 times.
Is there something I can tell this installer that will help? Thanks again for everything. |
