Anyone here notice that the rear camera is "grainy" at night? Is this a function of the fact that we can't actually "see" the grainy resolution during the day? I mean, sometimes, if the rear camera lens has dust/dirt on it, its really hard to see. Just wondered if others saw that.

| Yep, my camera shows a grainy picture at night, too. It's a function of the lack of adequate lighting at that time of the day. The white reverse lights are not bright enough to feed the lens of the camera with the amount of light it would need for a sharp, clear picture. You'll get the same effect if you use a regular camera to take a night photo without proper lighting or a long amount of time to keep the camera's shutter open. Personally, I've been very impressed with the quality of the rearview camera both in the day and at night! |

| The CCD sensor the amplifier and the display all have a basic noise floor commonly seen as static on a TV set. When the signal (light) is strong the picture signal is sufficiently above the noise floor that the picture looks clear. When the light level is low the noise first shows as grain in the picture. Actually the Mo camera is fairly good. Brighter backup lights make it better ( I added these myself) :) |
