For the second time since I got my Murano in May, the gas cap has broken. It breaks when I try to unscrew it and it simply won't unscrew. I finally turn hard enough and the top of the gas cap separates from the bottom part, with a twisted spring popping out. I then have to take a screw driver and pry open the bottom part.
I have also noticed that my gas cap is normally very hard to screw on and off.
Anyone know what is going on? I am going to bring it into the dealer this week to get it replaced, but I wonder if this is indicative of a larger problem.
Oh, and I am also getting a ticking sound from my driver's door/b-pillar...just like the '03/'04 cars!:3: |

| Never had any problem with the gas cap. It always goes off and on easily....there must be something wrong with the tank filling pipe.... |

| The gap cap is built to handle a certain amount of pressure, and can "vent" if the pressure is too high. Sounds like its not sealing correctly (or sealing too tight), making it difficult to remove. Note that this might not be the gas cap, but rather symptomatic of the evap system connected to your gas tank not pressurizing correctly. |

Well, I made a quick trip to my dealer today just to get a new gas cap. They didn't have any in stock, so they took one for a Maxima, not a problem. In and out in 10 minutes.
I will need to leave it with them for a an extended period so they can take a closer look at the problem, but that will have to wait until I can be without a car for the day. In the meantime, I will see if it happens again.
BTW, the service guy, who also just got a Murano a month ago, was telling me that his also has the squeaking brake problem. |

My guess is that the filler neck is damaged and is out-of-round. That would cause the problems you are describing.

Did you check to make sure that the front seat belts are fully retracted correctly (at least the one not in use... hopefully the passenger side) AND the rear seat belts buckels are stowed well so as not to touch the hard plastic trim near where they reside? |

Actually I had the same problem with my gas cap and I ended up replacing it with this:
http://www.redicap.com/
Seems to do the job. Ford made a statement they were going to eliminate all gas caps and go to a similar redicap design in an effort to save money; so I guess this may eventually become standard equipment for other auto lines. |

A neat product, but website says 1998+ models will be unavailable until further notice. |

| Ya, they had a warehouse disaster, so it might be a while as they get their insurance to cover the loss. |

Why not give the mechanic our squeaky brake thread?:jester:
Mine lasted quite a while but it eventually did go away. The TSB did nothing at all to fix that. It fixed itself.
