Has anyone thought of upgrading the tailgate to make it powered?
Press a button and the tailgate opens and close. Is that possible? I would certainly be interested in that.
If anyone done that, would u mind in sharing the process please |

| Hmm seems doable. On Pimp My Ride (I know, probably not THE definitive source for this sort of thing) they automate most things using power antenna motors. Seems like a logical choice. |

If GripperDon did not have a powered tailgate installed on his ModMO then it is most-likely not feasible. ;)
Just remember, the MO's tailgate is made of a plastic composite. You cannot just replace the struts with pneumatic cylinders or linear motors.

| It is an idea that probably needs further exploring.. |

My trunk lid only pops up a small amount when triggered and requires reaching up and puling and then pushing down.
With a right arm that is getting mote useless each month I really want one.
So if anyone gets ideas please post and I will do the same.
I am inspired now and will start looking harder. |

The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica Wagon has a trunk that opens with the push of a button on the keyfob and also closes and locks with it as. Maybe you can steal the idea (motor and parts) from one of them.
I looked it up, and they descibe the feature as:
- Remote power locks includes trunk/hatch and speed sensing |

right. Lexus SUV's have that. Minivans have that in Toyota and Honda's. I wonder if Nissan QUest Minivan has that? maybe we could use the same parts etc?
It is quite a pain to lift the gate and pull it down. Being able to control this using keyfob would make life a much lot easier. |

| It sounds like a good idea. Never thought about it but I would be interested. I definitely should be doable, just metter of time and $$ |

| My sister drove a 2006 Nissan Quest dealer car (fully loaded) for a few months at the beginning of the year and hers had the power tailgate. That would be a nice option for the Murano. |

| I'm not a guru in these mods. I wish I was. I would have explored the NIssan Quest minivan's powered tailgate and used the same for murano. hope someone interested enough takes this on and shares with the rest of us |

Well, you can rub the fact that her RX330 has been discontinued for the RX350. Her SUV is so 5 years ago. Choke on that sis. :2: |

I have the Pacifica with a power liftgate. It blocks an already limited rear view (with no camera!) but is very nice when you have a load of stuff and don't want to juggle. The gas struts on the sides are set to cut out letting the hatch slam down at the last minute when closing. It has a pressure detector to stop motion either opening or closing in case of resistance. There is also a power locking mechanism that pulls the door the rest of the way shut and latches it. It is also clever enough to allow you to override it and manually open or slam the hatch as well as a button on the front headliner and keyfob to let you activate it. You would need a mounting point on both the hatch and the C pillar to attatch the motor and lift arm to. I don't think this would work with our rear quarter glass being so close to the rear hatch. Also, since this is a Chrysler, this feature has already broken and been repaired.:3:
I really think you would have to strip all the plastic out of the rear and look for structure points strong enough to handle the stress this would put on the hatch and side of the car. For me, I like the intelligent key since it means I don't have to fish for the keys to hit a button to open the hatch! I simply use that free hand to push the button and lift it up! |

I am trying to have a power open (fully) and powered close
My only thought and not too good is to use over powered Gas struts for when I hit the trunk latch release the gas struts will fully open the trunk and then to have a small electric motor to run a drum that would wind down a cable attached to thet runk lid pulling the trunk closed.
